Just something here to make You suffer and feel ripped off(?)

Click here to feel the pain (http://www.japantoday.com/category/technology/view/kddi-to-launch-1gbps-fiber-optic-service-in-oct)

Divide whatever price you find by 105 to suffer even more.

The traffic speeds will be the fastest in eastern Japan, up drastically from the current 100 megabits per second.

I love how they say that like 100 megs is slow. I'm sitting on 1.5mb/s and they don't even offer 10mb/s DSL to my house yet.

In Puerto Rico the best connection is at the University of Puerto Rico, probably 20MB.

Internet for your house? The best you can get is 5MB for like $100 lol, my connection is 1MB and pays some $35, japs have 47MB for that price wtf

Try US$180 for 2.5MB/S down and 768K up (http://www.pticom.com/internet/), then add insult to injury when the actual download speeds from the US are closer to 30K most of the time.

Oh well, I suppose that's part of the price of living in paradise...

Damn that's messed up, makes me remember here 5 years ago..

It's funny how japs have the best internet but they have super DRM regulations, thus, what kind of big file can they possibly download?

I know we're a long way from getting speeds around 100 megabits, but once we pass that, would we need to upgrade the network cards and cables for gigabit speeds? Even for speeds like 101 megabits?

JamesXP

If you got a 200mb connection, you could plug it into your 10/100 LAN, but you would only get 10/100, not 200 :)

Where in NorCal are you? I might be able to suggest some alternatives that MIGHT service your area.

Ping times would stay the same. All you're getting is wider lanes not a faster car.

i get faster upload speed than yours, but my download is about 6mb

it seems the uk has better broadband compared to usa because we dont have some limitations like you do..

a faster upload makes so much difference!! better gaming, downloads and all sorts

What did you just say, better upload gets you better download?

huh? maybe in peer2peer applications, but does upload speed, speed up HTTP downloads? I know bogged down upload can stop you from sending requests promptly(what happens when I use my upload... :()

If it's fibre all the way wouldn't ping be slightly lower than if some of the line was twisted pair?

JamesXP

Most certainly, the screen I posted is using my fiber connection, although it's not all fibre, fibre to the exange box which is like ~100m away, and copper into our house.

If the medium changes the ping might too, plus if you change companies the hop locations and quantity also change, which also affect ping. What I said before I meant it as if the person was staying with the same company and same medium, simply more bandwidth.
