guys im with a few other people freaken had it with the SMP on FAH so I would like to know if I can put my 2 8800gt (g92) to good work. With them is a q6600 at 3.6 and a D805 aat 3.2Ghz.
how do you think this would all fair?

Im gonna do 1,000,000 with the folding team and then im out unless they have a good SMP coming.

Why not do both? Seti on the CPU and FAH on the GPUs? Sounds like the best of both worlds.

If you run both SETI@home and GPU folding I suggest setting BOINC to use only three of your quad's cores (set it to 75% of processors in the BOINC prefs) to keep the final core available for the GPU client. With two cards setting BOINC to only use 50% of the processors should do the trick for you. My 8800GT was only getting slightly over 3k PPD until I changed that setting, now it's slightly over 5k.

Does this mean you are going to try it too LandShark! I know you were a force back in the day.... just hope you haven't gone the way of the megalodon. I would love to see more of us older guys up in the stats.

lol...... who knows.... I might..... :p

but at least I finally reached my first million during the last Inter-Team race! :santa:

FAH is a pain in the ass. It bombed again on me last night and I had to reinstall. yes its a beta yes some problems but running fine then bombs out after a few weeks is not ok.

can 2 8800gt do any work for the set team? or is it only CPU stuff?

Currently SETI is CPU only. I know a GPU client was being developed, but it seems to be moving very slowly.

Has nothing to do with SETI, but it's another option for your GPUs aside from F@H...

I have not tried it yet. If my GPUs starts giving me grief running F@H, then I might jump to this.

Did you try in GPU2 under configure->advanced->core priority->slightly higher. I have seti crunching on 2 cores and GPU2 running on core 1 and it appears as though I'm losing no points (rig in sig). GPU gets around 4300ppd whether Seti is on or off. Maybe different with Intel...or 4 core...XP does read GPU wrong too, if there is no use of the cpu core GPU2 "says" it uses 50% (or 100% of one core) in task manager but if another process uses that same core then GPU2 changes to 4%->0%->8%->0%...etc. never using more than 10% even if the core is not fully loaded (ie. not 100%). Again this is on rig in sig.

Its not the GPU its the SMP for the CPU that keeps bombing. if bombed again today. I have freaken had it.

Maybe just drop the SMP and leave the GPU as was mentioned. Then you could help the SETI team (or other projects, Rosetta etc.), Boinc is pretty stable, no babysitting.

I will give that a try tonight, thanks for the suggestion. :)

I just checked it and it looks like it was already set for slightly higher.
