are you saying you want your pc to record incomming audio from the tv, stereo cd player etc...?
if so then all you need is to plug what u wanna record into the mic plug on the sound card.. all the audigys or 5.1's will do that

I know that he wants to go from his computer to VCR or something else, but just to clarify a little detail, that may turn out poor quality recordings from your first reply. You don't want to record a signal from a TV/ VCR/ DVD, etc. with the microphone input. There is a "line in" input for this type of thing. On the Live! 5.1 's it's the blue connector, if it's the Audigy, check the manual, because I can't remember offhand. The reason for this is that the microphone input is a high gain input, and if not set absolutely perfectly, there will too weak or too high of an input signal. The line in has an input for a "line level" signal, which is what you would want for recording tape to HDD, DVD to HDD, etc...

ok i see the blue output on my soundcard, so would i need a particular type of output cable? basically i want to record both music and movies to tape, via casette :) and vcr tape. since i just purcahsed my first ever tv-out vid card, im wanting to try all this stuff, and beleive me, if i had a clue as to where my sblive manual was, i would be reading it.
ok, now since ive got the sblive platinum, i got that sort of rack mount deal that sits im my puter,(whatever u call it) with the spdif in/out,optical in/out,midi in out, does any of that stuff play a part? i mean, all the time ive owned this card ive never once used that stuff, so im wondering if i can get more out of my rig other than just gaming, surfing. (music for me/movies for the folks).

thx again PF

hmmm im still a lil lost on what exactly you want to do.. it sounds like you just wanna play around with your sond card and vcr and stuff.. but you'll need cables to do so.. www.radioshack.com has all the cables ull need to do what you want..

well you can record mp3z to tape easy, divx (i think is what u wanna record) to vcr is a bit harder..
all u need is to figure out what plug on ur stereo they are for the input or AUX..
same for the vcr.. vcr is normaily rca.. but ud need a tvout on ur vid card and those rae usualy optical.. so ull probly have to get a tv tuner type card or a pci card thats made for tv out..

yes, correct,it is div-x, i do have a tv-out card (g2 ti 450) but that is video only, correct? so would i use the optical out on my sblive for sound? spdif? sorry but im lost and new to this.

ok, tv-out works fine, but how do u get sound to tv? everything on tv is rca, while the sound out on video card is regular audio out jacks. ive tried a couple different thing with the live drive, but still no sound. do i need adapter for the audio jacks to convert to rca? will that work? or is it simply a no no to record anything off your computer to vcr, cassette etc.?

thx PF

well since i cant seem to figure this out, can i have 2 sounds cards in my rig? see, my old awe 64 gold soundblaster has the rca left/right outputs for speakers, but i use my sblive for gaming etc. (simply a better card) and since i cant figure out how to do the sound deal with the sb platinum, thought i might try putting the awe 64 in there for output use only? so...... will this be like nothing but problems? or can i switched between the 2? yes,no?

Most likely if you put both sound cards in at the same time, you run into problems. The sound cards will conflict with themselves. It's better to just use the better out of the two.
