I just purchised a netgear router 2 weeks ago and for some reason, it will drop connection every two days. The only way for it to give a wireless signal again is to restart the router which is annoying :bang head. Is there any way to fix this.

How about a firmware update?

How about a firmware update?

If a firmware doesn't cure your problem check the settings for DHCP, it may be set for 1 to 5 connections max and a short lifetime, say a day or less, sounds like your DHCP table is getting filled up and not being reset when it is full.

Or you could set up the IP range and give your computers a static ip (this is a better choice for security, only create or give the table enough IP's for the connections you use on your network, that way a hacker can't connect, no IP!)

Good luck...

Mine drops connection exactly every Hour. After upgrading the firmware and spending several hours trying to get it working, it's still doing it.(I WILL NEVER EVER BUY EFFIN' NETGEAR AGAIN). It's an MR814v2.

I had this problem before and forgot what I did to fix it.... there was something in my TCP/IP or DCHP settings ...or router settings... can't remember and not sure if I should mess with more settings because netgear is effin terrible and it's going to ruin the connection again probably.

Think I found some answers on this thread:

http://forums.linksys.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=112705

that is the exact problem I'm having... might also solve other disconnection issues that happen in exact intervals.

Still haven't solved my issues with this stupid router... and the cable modem is VERY old too (Surfboard 4200), I'm going to get both replaced. This stuff is extremely old-tech, like over 5 yrs old... way overdue for upgrade.
