MaximumPC recommended this stuff to keep your pc quiet. It supposivly works real well. Has anybody here tried this stuff or heard any good things about it? i am concerned about it creating more heat in the case. If it does not create more heat though, it looks pretty cool cause my delta fan is pretty loud

I think its a better idea to go with sound dampening foam. supposedly the dynamat is better for vibration but lousy for sound dampening.

i wasnt sure by reading that post. did you ever end up getting that ester foam stuff? does it work at all? is your case still loud? does this stuff cause case temperatures to go up... i got a aluminum case so it may do that.

If you have deacent ariflow then it wont effect temps at all. Same with alumium cases. They look cool, and there easy to cut, but they provide no cooling enhancemnts

I just received my shipment of Dynamat Extreme sheets and completely lined my case - sides, top, bottom. Didn't do front and back for obvious reasons. Had considered buying a sound level meter from Radio Shack so that I could quantify results with numbers, but thought that I would appreciate improvements whether or not I had the measurements.

Anyway, my opinion - Very little improvement, if any. I polled family members whose feedback was the same. I guess it makes sense...Most of the noise, at least on my setup (2 60mm fans on the HS/F, 2 80mm fans for case, 1 PS fan, 1 vid card fan), comes from the power supply and exhaust fan...Very little is coming through the shell. Therefore, I don't think foam insulation will be better. So...unless you can shut of the ps fan, I don't think it can get much better.

I have considered isolating the ps from the case (i.e. lengthen the leads) an putting it in the next room, but I guess I'll just live with it until someone comes up with another sound proofing gimick.

Dynamat is a trade name for sound dampening sheets used by the car audio industry, an alternative is Punchmat by Rockford Fosgate and they work by altering the resonance frequency at which the panel can vibrate and can be obtained from all good car audio dealers.
Another product to consider is the 'lead' sheeting used on roofing, this has also been used by the car audio industry as a cheap way to cut vehicle noise.
Sound dampening in the car audio industry is heading towards using composite sprays such as 'noize killer' as this does not have the weight problem associated with matting. The noise killer spray works in the same way as dynomat, niether are true sound proofing they are dampers.. they work by changing the frequency at which the surface to which they are attached vibrates, a slight sound absorbsions may also be found but I suspect not much
