I changed the folder view options to show hidden and show file extensions.

Is there a patch that i need because every time i goto C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Application Data\ATI\ACE

its blank it never saves them

Run a search to drive C: looking for <profile name>.xml
(Remember to search hidden folders)

Did you type in your fan speed in the Fan speed percent target or in the fan rpm target. You should type it in the fan speed percent target.

here is my mod for 50%

take note in the red shaded areas. since I am running crossfire I have two, but if you are only running one card you will only have 1 area now for any fan percent that you want change the 50 to what ever percent you want your fan to run.

<Feature name="FanSpeedPercentTarget_0">
<Property name="Want" value="50" />

Also make sure you have unlocked the card(s) and enabled overdrive

i did that to the letter... still nothing... i probably missed out something but i think rivatuner is still a good way to do it and a lot easier!! 8.10 CCC bring in fan control anyway so that should be very soon... the official release anyway, you can download it elsewhere... it has been linked on here somewhere....

It's not
C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Application Data\ATI\ACE

It's
C:\Documents and Settings\Mike\Local Settings\Application Data\ATI\ACE

And it doesn't end with modifying the file. You have to select the profile again to apply the changes.

As mentioned, don't forget to enable Ati Overdrive on Ati Overdrive tab at left. Assign a shortcut for your profile. I got 4 profiles, i can change fan speed or even clock speeds while playing games.
