So my friends mom asked for my help with her laptop and i can't figure out whats wrong with it. First i thought it was just spyware issues ,but i checked it and that wasnt it. So now im thinking its dell and how they built it. The problem is it freezes and purple lines show up there purple because thats her theme i think thats why ill change her theme to blue and see if it changes. Any ideas?

How did you check to see if it's spyware? Keep in mind, installing anti-virus/spyware on an already infected system generally won't catch something already causing a problem.
As for the lines, I'd say it sounds like there's some issue with the graphics unit or a loose LCD connector. That in combination with the freezing could be a much more serious problem with the hardware of the unit.
Best thing to do is back up the system, do a clean reformat/install, if that doesn't fix it your problem is hardware. After that I'd check to make sure graphics drivers were up to date.

I would get a can of air and clean out the heatsinks. Then advance farther in the trouble shooting realm.

TBH, macafee is garbage.
The free stuff out there is better. I'd pull the HDD and plug it into your desktop and try to scan it with your AV.
hafaphoto has a good idea though, didn't even think about it :), try cleaning out the heatsinks.
