Hi... i just noticed after buying the 4x2 G.Skill PC2-8000 RAM that with all settings at default considering overclocking the system boots at:
PC2-5300
why is that? CPUz says (333):
is that cuz of the bus speed..? i a bit confused.. if i kept 2 sticks would they have worked at 500?

It is probably because the bios settings are on auto. Your memory is probably like 2.0v or more. If you have auto settings memory runs at 1.8v thus memory runs at slower speed and timings to make it memory stable. You have to use manual settings for adjustment.

i dont think it was that...
here are the screenshots with the settings i just tried.. and it didnt boot

Can you not lower your multiplier to 6x and increase your FSB to 500mhz?? That would bring your RAM upto the correct 1000mhz and your CPU would still be at 3.0Ghz

can you change your divider to 4:5? You may also need to raise the tRFC to 55.

Ok i tried the following:
6*500 - no go
8*375 - no go
i dont get it why PC1000 spec sticks are not booting at default cpu speeds.
I`ll try the TRFC, but now the memory is set to AUTO and the timings are the ones in the picture and i`m stable...
I also crancked up the voltage to 2.2 and CPU VCORE to 1.3 with no results.
anyone had these issues? is it cuz the motherboard is old?

divider 5:6
FSB 350*9
tRFC 55
5-5-5-18
Vcore 1.35v
Vdimm 2.1v
(CR) T2
In addition, try disabling static read control.

more tests:
- when i set 6*500 i get 1.6Ghz core speed but id doesnt boot
- tRFC 55 is not possible, there is no value for it.. the one in the scr is the max.
- i dont have dividers, instead the BIOS translates the different FSBs into Mhz... so i keep it under 1000
- I dont get the increased VCORE, since the CPU should be overclocked...
I`ll try disabling static read control and get back to you... frustrating...

when was the last time you updated your bios?

Version 1226 last year November.
That was the first thing i checked.. but newer revisions dont fix anything... they just add support for new CPUs.. Heck i`ll update it as well.
edit: i seem to be experiencing this bug: 1. Fix FSB speed issue after adjusting CPU ratio, but that was fixed in 1223..

did the update... tried isabling static read control, juiced up the vcore...no luck..
i was able to boot underclocked (2.4ghz) and the memory in 2:3 (DDR900)
if i look at the first pic i posted.. cpuz says i`m running 1:1, but the memory is clocked at 333 and not even 400
it must be the math.. but i cant pinpoint it

Can you download Memset and let us see a screenie of your RAM settings?

just some more info: when i underclocked the cpu to 2.4 i could run PC8000 (900Mhz)
when i went for 1000Mhz (how the sticks are rated.. it didnt boot and then on reboot it wanted a CPU frequency of 1.6 and said that would be PC8900

Unclick "Lock MCHBAR" and raise tRFC in Memset to 55. Hit Apply and Save.

did that.. and how exactly is it going to help me?
i mean i dont have that setting in the BIOS and it wont boot with any higher bus speeds

Low tRFC is the most common cause of instability in Powerchip based 2x2GB kits.
Does it show in Memset that your tRFC is raise on both channels?

Have you tried 1 stick at a time to see if one of them wont run at spec thus causeing the system to not boot?

tRFC raised to 55 on both channels, but like i said the problem was not booting into windows
no cabose, i did not.. i`ll try though...
I wonder if someone with 8GB of ram and a Exxxx is able to boot at let's say PC6400 (400mhz)

did some more digging.. and found a good guide for DDR on: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1198647:
FSB : DRAM
1:1 = 333 MHz : 667 MHz
4:5 = 333 MHz : 833 MHz
2:3 = 333 MHz : 1,000 MHz
5:8 = 333 MHz : 1,066 MHz
3:5 = 333 MHz : 1,111 MHz
1:2 = 333 MHz : 1,333 MHz
i should be running 2:3.. questions is how to set it..
come on guys.. throw me a bone or somethin

Did you test them all yet?

if i had what to test...
I know the multiplier on asus boards is a bit different:
at stock speeds 9x333 the multies are:
DDR2-667
DDR2-800
DDR2-1000
...
and with auto computer is booting @ 667 (PC5300)
