Today I went to help a friend out with a ? about memory. I unpluged everything took off the side of the case look to see what kind of MoBo it was it didn't say. So I took out the ram and looked at it then put it back in. Now when she turns on the puter she gets a black screen she can't see the post. It`s as if the monitor is not turned on. What would cause this and whats wrong with it and lastly how can I fix it. And yes I grounded myself before I touched the ram.
Make sure the ram is in tight.
The system will not boot without no ram as you may know.
i would check all you connections, same thing happend to me a while back, it turned out i fried my mobo by touching something i guess, hope thats not what happend to you

The only thing I touched was the ram chip and the part I touch had a white sticker on it.
Had that happen not very long ago and what a nightmare until I got it goin' again.
I wound up striping my new system completely apart, even removed the motherboard from the tray. Checked everything and reassembled. Kicked the switch and all was groovy again.
It's the damn RAM not conecting well.
You may have to jack with it a number of times to get it to work again. I have a Gig of DDR but after I screwed with it for about 45 minutes, I threw the other 2 sticks in a box and settled for 512MB. One guy told me it took him an hour or more to get all four of his DDR sticks to work together.
It's funny this came up, cause I was thinking about trying to install the other 2 again tonight. But now that I recall what a pain it was, I think I'll put it off a while longer.
Good Luck!
thats all i thought i touched too :D can you hear it beep when it posts? is there even power to the mb or is the only problem you cant see anything?

did u put it back in the same slot u found it?
try clearing the CMOS...
maybe a swift kick would help :P
do the fan's spin up? or is the whole thing dead?
Well all I can think of is the ram is not in because before when I was transferring ram I had the ram in backwards and obviously the ram was like half in half out so it gave me a black screen.

All that I know is she told me she couldn't see anything, When she turns it on the keyboard lights up as if it has power but that all I know so far.

yeah sounds like the cmos could stand to be dumped out and reset. i've had to do that a few times and i can't ever remember hearing the *beeeep* when it needed to be done.
wish her luck! if its a white-box system she might have some trouble, who knows.

She had it built here in town about three years ago. Right now I'm looking for a slot 1 MoBo for her and a AGP video card Might as well add some ram huh.

It`s an Old Slot 1 with on board video.

Those Slot 1 motherboards are pretty expensive as they are hard to come across since people have stop making them.
Try to find an Abit BE6-II Rev 2 on Ebay and the AGP card can be something like a Radeon 32DDR LE.

Ok I got her computer today and it does nothing. There is no beep, no screen nothing all it does it light up to show it has power.
Is this her previous computer?
Is it turning on.
Do the fan spin?
Just recheck the ram.
Take it out and reseat it and clip it in.
the Trinity 400 is an excellent board i think u can find it new for about $85, u can get a good cheep update on her present cpu, i would bet
but still u sure u didnt put that ram back into slot 3 instead of 0?, which could make the dif, but really, i think that something is just loose

Oh yea so am I. The ram she has in it is only like 1/2" high so it`s hard to work with. I placed my ram which is normal size and everything went fine. I'm so happy.:D  :D
