I read somewhere that you need (or should) re-install your operating system when you install an XP processor?
Is this true? Why?
What a pain in the arse it is to re-install everything.
Will Windows 98SE work Ok with the Palomino?
I really want to see what is going to happen with the XP chip.
If anyone has tips/tricks for the Asus A7V266E and the XP 1900, please let me know.
I'm running:
A7V266E
AMD 1100 T-Bird (XP 1900 coming Monday)
W98SE
512 pc2100 DDR ram
Glaciator 2 HSU (this kicks ass by the way!) It runs about 44c under load:burn:
Geforce2 64 video
Chen Ming Tower case, 5 case fans + 2 on 400W power supply.
Thanks,
Re-run the setup program so the MMX features get recognized. You don't have to do a clean install and reload all your apps.

Don't you mean the SSE instructions? I thought the MMX was already supported by the TB core. The SSE is new to the XP/MP/4 core isn't it? I just want to make sure I don't have things all mixed up.

Should not be a prob with Ath XP and Win98SE. I have an Xp1800+/ 2000+(1668) and I installed a new hard drive using SE and after loading all the drivers upgraded to ME and redid the drivers. I have had no problems at all. Please let us know how far past 1.6 you can get that chip. I'm curious as to how much farther Palomino can go.

Re-Run setup?
Won't that install the entire OS again?
Thanks,

It will partly reinstall the OS, But keep your settings and loaded apps reguarless if you answer yes or no when it asks to backup your old OS...I have done this several times for a quick fix to Me, Advice, never upgrade from 95 to Me...just makes a very bad Me....
