Do the pre overclocked video cards have more voltage than normal ones? I know you can buy a normal one, and OC it to have the same speeds as the pre OC'd one. But you can OC the pre OC'd one as well.

Now, I'm looking at these two cards

and

I can overclock the cards myself, but will the pre OC'd one get higher than the non OC'd one? Or will they have the same OC overhead, both stopping at the same point?

i think the voltages are the same, but you can "normally" get a higher oc with the pre OC'ed cards. the reason is they hand select the cards and oc them and make sure then can hit there pre oc level. of course your never guaranteed an OC but most likely the pre oc will be better.

That's what I though, and at only $10 more, why not?

exactly, but there is a $20 MIR on the stock card. so i guess 30 more.

i will say this though. i have had 3 video cards and 2 had a factory OC and 1 doesn't. the 2 factory ones, with voltmods got me alot of oc. the stock one got me half of the oc. but i'm not sure if thats the cards limits or not.

I don't bother with MIR =(

i believe that some cards (8800 ) came with the 1.1 volt in the bios...and some just came with 1.0

I dont remember what ones...but i could be wrong.

There are some exceptions, but generally all the cards in a series come at the same voltage.

I know all eVGA cards come at the same voltage. I've had vanilla cards OC higher than factory OC'd cards, so I just go for the cheapest now.

EVGA only bins enough cards to meet demand for the overclocked versions, so a card sold as SC may have failed FTW or SSC testing while the non-OC versions may not have been binned at all. Easy to see how that could lead to better clocks on stock-clock cards compared to the binned ones.

Certainly hope that isn't the case, I went for the SC card for $10 more. But as far as I know, there aren't SSC or FTW editions of the Core 216.

Bear in mind I'm not sure if they bin from the bottom up or top down, like, do they test for the extreme clocks first and if they fail try for lower ones, or do they start with the SC clocks and pick the higher versions from those that pass?
