Hello I will start off listing my set up...
qx6850 Quad Core Extreme 3.0
EVGA 750i Motherboard
EVGA GTX280 SSC Edition
4 gigs of Reaper ddr 8400
2 X Hard Drives
Windows Vista Home Premium
Budget is roughly $300.00
I am looking to water cool my computer, i got a free Thermaltake's Bigwater 745 I have already tested all of this outside of my computer and their are no leaks and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary but what i am looking to do is eventually over clock my computer!
My first questions is do you think this is gonna be a decent block for my GPU?
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7760/ex-blc-497/Danger_Den_DD-Tieton_GTX280260_VGA_Full_Card_Water_Block_GPU-6880.html
Second question is do you think that this pump will work with my set up and how would i go about adding a video card loop into it? Will it go in the following order?
pump - CPU - VC-radiator - rez - repeat?
As for my final question do you think I need to cool anything else beyond my gpu and cpu? I have herd people say north bridge some people suggest memory! What is your opinion and what block for a north bridge should I use?
Note: I already planned on upgrading the radiator because it only supports 1 120mm fan I am looking at this one if you have comments about it please post!

Thank you in advance :attn:

welcome!
i would sell that thermal take crap ASAP! otherwise it will die and or leak and kill your nice setup.
a $300 budget will get you a nice one. i would go with the following for your setup.
Swiftech MCW60 VGA cooler (https://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCW60-R-VGA-cooler-pr-3777.html)
Swiftech MCP655 Pump (https://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCP655-B-12-VDC-Pump-Without-speed-controller-pr-3803.html)
D-tek FuZion V2 (https://www.jab-tech.com/D-tek-Fuzion-V2-pr-4155.html) OR Swiftech Apogee GTZ (http://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-Apogee-GTZ-Extreme-Performance-CPU-Waterblock-pr-4246.html)
Swiftech MCR 320 rad (https://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCR320-QP-K-Triple-120mm-Radiator-pr-3320.html)
+ tubing, clamps, etc.
you will need ramsinks on the card as well so either cut up a old chipset heatsink or buy them.
otherwise the block you list for your gpu is fine, you just can't use it on any other card.

1+ That thermaltake kit is garbage. You could build a very respectable kit of your own for $300.
I got my swiftech kit (pretty much what spawn listed, minus vga block and I got a 2x120mm rad) for 200 shipped.

just so you know the link you posted to the MCW60 VGA cooler does not work and can i go for a 2 X 120mm fan radiator
I am slightly confused about the VGA you included, does that go on my video card or the something else? ALso do i ned anything for my north bridge?

This is the one he meant I believe http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmcgpuwawg8.html or the rev.2. http://www.petrastechshop.com/swmcgpuwawg81.html. It goes on your video card and you use something like these http://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MC14-VGA-Forged-Copper-Ramsinks-pr-3163.html. I would go with a 120.3 rad because of the heat your cpu and gpu will be putting out. A 120.2 would work, but your temps wouldn't be great.

10-13-08, 07:48 PM
what do you mean by 120.3 vs 120.2 i don't quite follow alsoi do i need to cool north bridge?
Spawn-Inc
10-13-08, 07:53 PM
no the northbridge will be fine unless your going to do alot of ocing.
120.3 means 120mm x 3
120.2 means 120mm x 2
120.1 means 120mm x 1

So this is what i should buy!
Video Card = Swiftech MCW60-R2 GPU Waterblock w/ G80 Adapter Plate + 15 mem copper sinks
Pump = Swiftech MCP655 Pump
CPU= D-tek FuZion
Radiator = Swiftech MCR 320
+ tubing, clamps, etc.
Reservoir????? also do i use the adapter plate for the VC or not?

I prefer a res to a Tline. But thats just me.
The only reason I might go with a Tline is because its cheap, and you can put a fill port.

Whats a tline please link it....

you may not need the G80 adaptor plate, im not sure if there is a special plate for the 200 GTX series.
before you start buying stuff i would seriously read some more about w/c. make sure you know what your getting into.
and Tline is simply a T fitting placed before the pump intake and lets you fill the system. it replaces the res. the pros are its cheaper, takes up less space but is harder to bleed with and fill. a res is the opposite. http://www.boostcontroller.com/products/tfittinglarge.jpg
what T looks like and here is my system with a T line in place.

pump - CPU - VC-radiator - rez - repeat?
:attn:
You most definitely need to read up on watercooling before you jump in.
What are you going to use for the coolant?
There is much debate on what order your parts should go.
Some say:
1) Res/Tline -> Pump -> Rad -> Cpu -> Vga
2) Res/Tline -> Pump -> Cpu -> Vga ->Rad
The fact of the matter is that nowhere in your loop will be significantly hotter than another.
I personally did #1, but its just a preference.
Again, just take the time to read as much as possible.
*The forum stickies are there for a reason.

Here is some links, suggest all stickies are read and many posts back a week at least are read. Also google your case and the word watercool together and find if your case has already been watercooled.

as said order doesn't matter. i will add make sure the loop is the shortest possible over putting the rad or cpu before the cpu or rad.
i do agree from experience on getting rid of that thermaltake kit
you'll might be happy for a little while but pretty soon you'll start switching parts
whats bad about it
#1 the pump it's to weak and dies to soon
#2 the block is definately not of the greatest
#3 the tubing i find way to thin and thereby will give more restriction
#4 as you selve figured it is to small to take the heatload you might be able to switch barbs on it and use it as an extra rad in addition to a mcr220 or an mcr320
also i do agree on reading the stickies before you jump into it there is loads of good info there that will help you out in your decicions
and at last good luck and hope it works out for you

OK so after further review and thanks for the posts and the picture i see the use of a t line and thats the route i plan to use, just one question though involving the t line...
Heres what i plan to do..
1- 1/2 tube from t line to pump
2- 1/2 tube from pump to rad
3- 1/2 tube from rad to cpu
4- 1/2 tube from cpu to vga (gtx280)
5- 1/2 tube from vga to other t-line port
What happens to the last t line port, does that get branched off then plugged/block for filling and removing bubbles ect?
the last one is put a 1/2 inch tubing on and then goes to top of case for filling the loop and bleeding and after that it's just closed with a fillport like this http://www.petrastechshop.com/dadenbrfi.html
or a plug like this http://www.petrastechshop.com/dadentuplf1i.html or something else that can plug the tubing

Good luck. And make sure that you leak test for at least 24hrs.
There is a quick and easy mod for the Power Supply that enables you to run the pump without it being connected to the mobo.
I would suggest this as you dont want power running to your mobo/components when your leak testing.

I would just test it with a misc power supply, I just gotta jump the 24pin and I am good to go
yep just a paperclip or something between the green and aby black wire on the 24pin connector
and a good way to add a little safety is to put some papertowel under the barbs
that way you catch any leaks before it hits anything else and you can easily see if there is any leaks

correct, you would swap it out with the gtx plate.
you are missing tubing, clamps, fans for the rad, make sure to get barbs for the rad and i would opt for metal barbs for the vga block over plastic ones. i would also order some PT nuke (http://www.petrastechshop.com/pepcobi1.html) from petras (biocide) i have heard its 10 drops for 1 gallon, maybe litre. i just ordered 4 bottles of the stuff for when i clean out my loop.

i am getting 10ft of food grade vinyl tubing from work and i got some screw clamps from the local Menards. AS for barbs i ordered some with the radiator
Spawn-Inc
10-15-08, 10:31 PM
ahh, i would still get some format of biocide, whether its the pt nuke or some iodine. if you don't something will grow in it.
