Ok, I figured I would post this since I have had a few friends ruin boards trying to use the dreaded cold heat soldering iron.
Keep in mind, I do not work for HAKKO in any way shape or form. I just do a ton of electronics work and have found hakko products to be top quality and long lasting. My current equipment includes a HAKKO and METCAL products.
I have found that hakko makes a wonderfull cordless soldering iron that is upto most tasks. It is the HAKKO FX-901, costs 30 dollars, and uses T11 tips (conical or chisel)

I have also used the Hakko "Dash" irons for service calls as they are inexpensive and quality. (I have been held up a few times and lost gear)
The 15 watt N452: http://hakkousa.com/detail.asp?CID=49,118&PID=2476&Page=1
The 20 watt N453: http://hakkousa.com/detail.asp?CID=49,118&PID=2491&Page=1
The 25 watt N454: http://hakkousa.com/detail.asp?CID=49,118&PID=2493&Page=1
Keep in mind that hakko uses ceramic heaters which I find to have great thermal recovery, so higher wattage is not alawys better. Additionally they have replaceable tips in many different geometries.
I hope this helps some people, If it is good enough maybe some admins would like to make it a sticky. Additionaly could I get permission from an admin to post this in alternative modding and case modding?
