Thinking of upgrading to a bigger monitor but will the higher max resolution be a burden on my gaming? Couldn't I still run it at 1680x1050 but enjoy a bigger screen?

Are you upgrading to a 24" Dell? Or you have a 24" and want to go bigger? If it's the first scenario, you would do fine on a 24" at 1920x1200. I had a 8800GTS 512mb, which is a faster card, handled things pretty good. But the whole thing about upgrading to a 24" monitor is gaming at 1920x1200.

You can still run 1680x1050 on the 24 incher, but it won't be native. Non-native rez can look funky to some people (me included), but others don't mind it. You may be able to get away w/ running 1920x1200 w/ less eye-candy...you don't need as much AA w/ the higher rez.
You probably won't be playing Crysis at 1920x1200 w/ a lot of eye-candy on, but a lot of other games should be fine as long as you don't have to have max settings on everything.
Plus, the 24 incher will give you a reason to upgrade your video-card later. I say go for it!
Edit: How much does that Dell cost? I'm looking at getting a 32" 1080p set this year to use as a monitor. I'm hoping to find a deal in the $500 range. Just something for you to consider...:bday:

No I currently have a 20" WS and would really like to go bigger, I also watch movies on my computer as well as ABC shows which are broadcast in HD which would make this monitor ideal. I can probably sell my current monitor on Craigslist and make the deal even sweeter. :bday:

Agreeing with Jason. I have two of those cards, and two of the 2407FPW's. Not running SLI, with just a card on each screen, they play most games fine at 1920x1200, so 1680x1050 shouldnt be a prob. Only prob you'd run into is, obviously, crysis. Two of that card in SLI, with settings maxed out at 1920 still isn't pretty :) Everything else I've put at it seems to be good though.
