I was wondering if there is a fix for the "flat panel scaling" options not sticking in the nVidia Control Panel.
What I want to be able to do is run older games that use a 4:3 res on my monitor without the system scaling the game to 16:10...
This issue has been around since the 97.XX drivers, that's about 2 years, and it still hasn't been fixed in a driver update...
I'm using the newest driver 178.24
Any ideas???

Have you tried the 180.10 drivers?
You can get them from here:

I must say I have no problems with the scaling, on my 17" LCD with a max res of 1280x1024 I run 1280x720 just fine with the option set to No Scaling, are you using DVI?

Are you sure its not the monitor doing the scaling?
Most monitors will take whatever signal you send and stretch it to fit the monitor's native rez.
Does your monitor have a 1:1 pixel mode?
Edit:
Or you can try to manipulate the game to run in widescreen mode. Look here. (http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/index.php?c=3)

Scaling has worked correctly since the later 160 series drivers. Set the NV CP to "Use My
Displays Built in Scaling" and use 4:3 resolutions for you desktop and games.

correct me if im wrong but it sounds like he wants to play a 4:3 game on a widescreen monitor without the 4:3 image being streched wide, and rather just have the black bars on the side like when you watch a 4:3 tv broadcast on a widescreen tv.

I believe you are correct but the same thing applies except set the desktop to a 16:10 resolution. I play a couple of games that are 4:3 and all of the benchmarks are native 4:3 as well.
It is the monitor doing the stretching. There is probably a setting in the monitor controls for aspect ratio.

There are two options on my Samsung T240 for "Image Size" either "Auto" or "Wide" and I've tried both.
The problem is that no matter what scaling option I select in the NV CP it will revert back to "use my display's built-in scaling" right after hitting "Apply" and "Yes" to confirm.
I need to be able to select "use nVidia scaling with fixed aspect ratio" but it always reverts back.
There are many posts on nVidia forums about this and some possible fixes but none of them work at all for me and only part of the time for other people.
Sorry for late reply. Thanks.
EDIT: Oh yeah, and I'm using a DVI-DVI connection.

My roommates' Acer, Westinghouse, Viewsonic, and Sony displays have the same issue....

odd, i have an acer right now and a sony + samsung in the past and the only one that ever had a hard time pushing 1440x900 was the samsung.
1440x900 is a very common res. i dont blame the card - i blame the monitor

None of your monitors should've had a problem with 1440x900 since that's a 16:10...and most likely those monitors were 16:10 native.
I'm having trouble with the 4:3 resolutions being stretched out on full screen, I'd rather have the black bars on the sides and keeping the aspect ratio when viewing those resolutions full screen.

When you go into the monitor's on-screen menu, what does the info tab say while your playing the game that has a 4:3 rez selected in the in-game options?
