What cpu are you using and what multiplier?
What motherboard?
What memory?

original Tbird 1.44ghz 266
gigabyte ga-7dx board
crucial 512mb pc2100 ram.. cas2.5 but running cas2
geforce3.. set to 220/520
soundblaster audigy
20gig ata100 7200rpm hd
16/48 dvd drive
10/16/40 cdrw
win2k.. detonators 23.10.. dx8.1

running a sk6 copper heatsink and 8000rpm delta.. at fastest fsb 149/38 temp only goes up 1c.. running 46-50c (its hot in here cant help it)

have fsb settings of

143/36 = 1512mhz
145/37
149/38 = 1565mhz !!! woohooo!!

3dmark2001 wont complete and exits to the desktop above 143... at 143 i get a 3dmark2001 score of 7317

tries cas 2.5 on ddr ram, but that didnt solve it so its not that

thanks for al the help guys

First thing I would try as a test would be drop the overclock on the video card.

If thats no help try raising the cpu vcore voltage up a notch but make sure the cpu dosen't get too hot.

If still no luck try raising the memory voltage to 2.7v if your motherboard allows it.

3dmark2001 is a very extensive 3d benchmark. I had a similar experience myself with my previous setup (bx, celeron 566@850). If I overclocked more than 850, let's say 892MHZ, everything worked fine, every single stability test, including memtest-86, but 3dmark2001 refused to complete. I should mention that I know many people that can't complete the test even at default cpu speeds, when everything else seems to work fine. In my case, if I use 3dnow optimizations with my Morgan cpu, the test stops very quickly, but if I use SSE I see an improvement, sometimes it completes! Maybe it has to do with the AGP bus individually, or the display card and the drivers, and not with the whole memory subsystem, who knows...

I tried normal geforce3 settings and still i get the same thing

at 145/37 i can run 3dmark2001 but it locks in the Nature part

at 149/38 it kicks back to the desktop as soon as i click benchmark

both those with the 220/520 geforce3 settings

hmm... 3dmark2001 needs to be more stable.....

I would try voltage but dont have controls for it... I dont think its the voltage though myself.. with previous computers I would get a windows error and couldnt boot if the voltage was too low.. at full 149fsb i can boot just fine.... unless i cant compare the tbird overclocking wierdness factor to a p3 ;)

Try running prime 95 for a hour and see if it fails.

If it fails then its the memory or cpu.
