Hello, i've got a big problem with my graphics card.
First off, I have the BFG 9800 gt graphics card. It's installed properly and everything but it messes up sometimes.
When play games, the video would scramble(like the colours would get all weird and messed up), then my computer would restart.
If anyone could help me or suggest anything it would be GREATLY appreciated.

It's about under a month old, and i havent touched any overclocking yet.
It happens with all games or one specifically?

What's the model/manufacturer of your power supply?

Same problem w/ mine and apparently not uncommon from what I've read.
I have'nt found a solution yet.
My specs are as follows...
Q6600 (3.0 ghz stable, w/no voltage increase)
Abit I-N73V M/B
2 Gig Generic 800 Mhz
XFX 9800GT (currently running 178.24 drivers)
600 watt OCZ PSU
10 min of beautiful graphics, 6 hours of troubleshooting.......
Cool temps on everything under load....
CPUz 60 C max
GPU 70 C max
Seems like a VGA/drivers issue related to the cards memory......anybody????
Help!

Common or not, cards should not glitch like that. Of course there can be any number of possible causes, but the top three are probably:
1) Heat
2) Insufficient power*
3) Faulty graphics card
If it is a faulty card, RMA it.
*When I say insufficient power, doesn't matter what brand or how high a wattage your power supply is. A couple months ago I was troubleshooting a system for a friend. It would either start to lag horribly, or just turn off during gaming. I hooked up a multimeter and found that the +12v dropped to around 10.5v under load. Another friend's system suddenly (over a 2 day period) started rebooting, then started shutting off, finally wouldn't power on anymore. PSU was at fault. My own gaming rig's original power supply worked fine under idle conditions, but would shut off under load. All these were major brand and much higher wattage than needed.
I have sorta same problems with mine, in some games, disabling AA and putting graphics to medium resolves problems but that's not why I bought it for. So I'm doing RMA as soon as I save for the shipping.

open dxdiag and run th diagnostic tools for d3d, and direct draw. see if it does it durig those tests
if what you mean by "scramble" is like the screen gets all blocky, and the computer still keeps running. its most likely bad vid memory on the card so rma it.

Ty, Slizacker, and all who posted input.
I'm my case I believe you may be correct.
It seems VGA memory related. Windows keeps running in the background and if I Alt-Tab quick enough the system won't crash.
Gee, I wonder if all these 3'rd party card makers don't get their memory from the same sources....(duh.)
Think'n I will RMA.

Update....and it's the darndest thing...
I read a post by a guy in the same boat as myself who bumped up his cards settings and his problems disappeared..I tried it and guess what....mine did too!!!!!
XFX 9800 GT .... CPU 600 to 650, Memory 900 to 1000 mhz
I played IL2 1946 and COD4 all day yesterday on max settings w/ 0 lockups!!!!
Temps stayed below 70C underload w/ fan @ 60%, manually.
Give it a shot..if nothing else will work for ya.
Good luck!
