Hi, since I got my new computer I've been interested in upgrading my video card. Right now it's only a VideoExcel TnT 2 K64. I was thinking in the price range of Gf2 Ti and ATI 7200. If you have any suggestions let me know, and thanks ahead of time. (specs below)

The ATI 7200 is basically sort of a ATI 32DDR LE

I would recommend the ATI Radeon 7500 as it equals to the GeForce 2 Ultra or passes it by overclocking it and its only 100USD.

My two cents.

First of all i think you'll find your card is actually a M64 (hehe no its okay easy mistake) - if you got an old pentium or K6-2 (yeah i know - you havent :D) it does its job to the best of its ability - before you get rid of it - go on - give it a little overclock - jsut to see how far you get - after all it doesn't matter if it dies does it!

As for video cards - it really does depend on how much you wanna spend. A Geforce2 Ti are pretty damn cheap atm and do offer excellent performance, but in reality a Geforce2 GTS will be fine for most games, but a Geforce3 Ti 200 (or Ti 500 if you r a rich git) will get you a most rewarding result. As for the ATI radeon the 7500 is an excellent performer, and the VIVO option is nice, - but oh boy the 8500 is excellent - note the 8500 comes in OEM and retail (obviously) the OEM seems to run slower - but with adequate cooling and a BIOS update to a retail BIOS you can get a retail(ed?) card.

Enjoy your time at the forum btw - if you have any problems people are always here to help :)

Farewell.

100$ range- winner is 7500 because it is faster than the Ti and has much better image quality

150-200$ range-G3 Ti200/8500LE LE is faster but a little more expensive......

I would try overclocking it a little but I have no experience or knowledge in that area.... and I can't find any sites with software for overclocking it either.

By the way if I try playing CounterStrike (one of my favorites), in high res I will get around 10-30 fps. In 800x600 though I get over 60 fps (CS won't let you know higher than 60)..... so I have hope for this card.

Well the higher the resolution the lower your FPS will most likely be.

If your on Win XP or Win 2K you can type fps_max 99 and your maximum fps will be changed to 99 ....
