Took a trip by CompUSA today to hunt for some software and happened to see an Athlon XP 1800+ retail. Checked out the price and almost fainted. $369.00. Using our sources that will buy the chip, an ECS motherboard, 256MB PC2100 DDR ram, and several 6 packs.:D

No doubt some fruitcake will buy it.

That's the game. They cater to a bunch of folks who are not puter savvy but have deep pockets. Also if you read some of the common man (non power users) magazines, they quote those high prices as though they have no idea themselves where to find reasonably priced parts so people actually don't know they can be found cheaper..

Then again, buying all the components from CompUSA is cheaper than buying their computer. Or the same computer from any other retail store. I find it is the best place to go when you are desperate and must buy from a retail outlet.

here this...I went there today looking for an external DVD-ROM drive for my laptop(kinda ghetto no DVD :)) anyway I asked one of the guys he said look over in the glass case...nothing there...I asked ANOTHER guy and he point to a DVD-BURNER...I said that is a burner (it said it on the box) and he said "OH NO SIR, that is just a high quality DVD-ROM" do they think I'm ,like, dumb or somthing??!! I swear some people swear they are smart but they can't tell a burner that says it on the box from a regular ROM....
not to mention I wouldn't spend $575.00 on a supposed HIGH-quality ROM anyway...
What total DUMBA$$E$

well..I must say I have bought hardware from CompUSA before...I bought my PNY GeForce3 ti200 from them...for a respectable 179.00....at the time I bought it that was almost as good as a price as I found on Pricewatch.com (169.99..then add shipping and waiting)..but that price for the CPU is crazy.
did you guys know that compusa charges 13 bucks for a 60mm case fan?

They're a retailer. Prices are jacked up. I like them, though. They have good customer service and are nice... at least at the store I go to. And at least half of the people there know what they're doing. Though they will try to sell you a P4 and say it's better than an athlonXP.
