I have and always will be into flight sims. I currently play about 5 of them along with all the other games. My first one was chuck yeager's f-15 flight sim way back in 1987 on my old ibm XT. My father is a pilot and we fly model airplanes as a hobby and I have always had a fascination with flight. My favorite sims are MS flight sim 2000 and 2002 professional. Those 2 are definitly the most accurate flight sims i have ever played and it doesn't get any better than a 21" sony flatscreen with a force feedback controller. The funny thing is that everyone is always talking about FPS and visual qualtiy in FPS games like Q3A or RTCW, My 2 favorite flight sims will crush any set-up far worse than FPS games will yet no one uses them as a video benchmark or test. just try to run flight sim 2002 @ 1200 x 1600 with good visual quality settings and watch your system die! I am wanting and saving for my next system and ultimate flight sim rig, dual p4 xeon's with 1 gig ram and gefore 4.

I completely understand what you are talking about. I dont know why flights sims are never used on benchmarks. I am pretty sure that it would stress the rig a whole lot more than Q3. What types of FR do you get on flight sim 2002 @ 1200 x 1600 with good visual quality settings?

I dont know about your avatar supergenius74.
I'm into flight sims too. Started out with MS Flight Sim 6 or something, and went out and accidently bought the version just before that one. I was so dissapointed (FS6 is a windows app, and FS5 is DOS :( ). But I still like to fly around sometimes just because it is one of the few games that acutally uses my joystick.
Currently, I use FlightGear. Great program with awesome scenery (at least compared to FS5... :D don't know about others!)

what about militar flight sims?
what r ppl playing?
I have been fascinated by aviation since childhood, and the only reason I even considered getting a computer was for flying...
I now have MS Combat Flight Sims 1&2, Jane's WWII Fighters, and Jane's USAF. I plan to add a few others in time, but for now these wonderful games provide me with more than I ever dreamed possible in terms of simulated aerial combat...Can't get enough of this stuff, and fully intend to die with a joystick in my hand and a smile on my face. :D :D :D

Well, i started out with Helcats Over the Pacific on my mac back in about 1991. Then it was Hornet on the mac. Then A-10 Attack, again on the mac. Next was Janes Longbow, Janes F-15, Janes WWII Fighters, and Janes F/A 18 Hornet. I still have all of the Janes games, played some longbow last summer, just got hornet last fall, but didnt play it too much cause it doesnt work in win2k and im too lazy to reboot to us win98. I still think Hellcats was Sweet though.:D

I have MS Flight Sim 2000 Pro. On my slow PII 400 voodoo 3 (187 MHZ) machine its unplayable except at lowest possible settings. But, on my dads P4 1.3 GF2 Ultra it plays awesome even at 1600x1200. My dad is going to buy 2002 as soon as he upgrades his ram (only 128 PC800).

falcon 4 is getting revamped by a bunch of moders and it looks as good if not better than fs2000.

I wish I had Falcon 4. Hmmm, guess I never made it a priority. I have only Janes F-15. I wanna get CFS2.

I tryed the Falcon 4 demo but it ran extremely slow on my Voodoo 3. Which didn't make sence, because the game didn't look all that great to me. The textures were all washed out and there were no buildings on the ground. Even FS2000 runs better!

Falcon 4 should run pretty good on a Voodoo 3 (overclock it!), if your CPU and RAM are sufficient. It used to run fine on mine.
Is the falcon patch your talking about, efalcon?
I also have a pilot's license.
The first flight sims I played were probably Red Baron (http://www.klov.com/R/Red_Baron.html) in the arcades in 1980, unless there's something I played in the 70's that I can't think of.
Then came Air Raiders (http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html?SoftwareLabelID=5) for the Atari 2600 in 1983, and Mach 3 (http://www.dragons-lair-project.com/games/pages/mach3.asp) in the arcade in 1983.
Then in '84 or '85 when I saw Flight Simulator II by Sublogic on a friend's Commodore 64, I had to get a C64 for christmas. Also got Sublogic's 'Jet' shortly after. Then got F15 Strike Eagle and countless others on the C64 (Acrojet, Jet Combat Simulator, Solo Flight, Ace of Aces, Dam Busters, Chuck Yeager's AFT, Mig Alley Ace, Skyfox, Super Huey, Gunship, F19 Stealth Fighter come to mind).
Then after seeing magazine pics of Flight Simulator II on the Commodore Amiga around '87, and then FA-18 Interceptor running on an Amiga in Electronics Boutique around '88, I had to get an Amiga ('89). FA-18 Interceptor just rocked unlike anything ever made. Nothing on my buddies PC came close. Then several other good flight sims on the Amiga (F16 Combat Pilot, Falcon (I thought both were hard), F-29 Retaliator, Their Finest Hour, A-10 Tank Killer, Wings, Knights of the Sky, and all the ports/remakes of the PC and C64 flight sims (F15 SE II, Stealth Fighter, Gunship etc). And a game I wore out - Fighter Bomber!
Here's (http://www.angusm.demon.co.uk/AGDB/FlightSim.html) some of the Amiga flight sims.
A few years later ('92-'93), I started playing A-10 Tank Killer and Flight Simulator 4 because they were installed on some of the PC's in the college computer lab (!). Kept playing my Amiga until I got out of college and could get enough money to buy a PC (not until '96) which were still expensive then. While all my buddies played Duke Nukem 3D and Doom on theirs, I played Flight Simulator 5, etc.
This page (http://www.migman.com/ref/simhis/index1980.htm) shows a lot of flight sims from the 80's.
And this one (http://simflight.com/fshistory/fsh/timeline.htm) a timeline of Flight Simulator.
BTW, if your wondering, I'll be 31 next month.

How much money you need to get a license, actually, how many hours? Anyone here know anyone in the airline industry, I would really like to get into the airline industry in the future?

it can cost anywher from 2 grand
i think its 20 with and instructor 10 solo and 10 additional for civ lisence
and a certain amount of ground schooling is nessecary.
for commercial it can get a bit more extensive.
IL-2 Sturmovik is pretty good, WW II flying. I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Just got it so I'm still learning to fly, shoot, kill and crash at will. Flight and racing sims are the reasons I have a decent video card. Can't see getting the MS 2002 sim though. No interest in spending 3 hours to learn how to fly it then can't shoot the bad guys. :)
Looking for a good space flight sim. Any one know if Free Space 2 is any good?

Flight simming is one reason why I built my comp, and why I wanna build another one.

If your interested in flying, www.aopa.org/learntofly/ might help. I'd recommend getting an instrument rating also.
I got a private license, instrument rating, multi engine rating, and commercial license, but that was in the early 90's. I'm sure it's gotten even more expensive now.
F22 lighting nobody would want to fly with me.I can take off but never land.Besides I get shot down most of the time

Does anyone here have FS2002? If so, what type of platform are you running it on, and what kind of performance are you getting.

While were on the subject. Ace Combat4 for Ps2 is a pretty sweet game.
I am running - trying to run FS 2002 on a 366 with a Riva TNT2 card....it keeps crashing. I overclocked it to 550 and still have the same problem. Any solutions? Maybe a more robust system?

I used to play flight sims nearly exclusively, then QuakeTF happened, and I hardly ever flew again...
Until more recently. In the last year, I've gotten more active, but the only sim I've been able to purchase is FS2000. Love it. I've got a bunch of addon planes.
However, for you real flight junkies, my wife got me a xmas present to top all presents. www.natg.com
My 30 minute flight with video and aerobatics is on Sept 13. :)
I can't wait!
