I'm buying a new HDD to replace my 160gb IDE one, probably a sata.

I'm wondering how I can basicaly copy my current 100GB onto the new one? So it's exactly as it is now, just on the new drive with more space. I ask this because I'm getting rid of my current IDE one and don't want to have to backup 100GBs of files/re-install windows.

Also, can anyone recommend a good HDD? I want one for around £50, probably 500-640gb. I've read good things on new double platter 640GBs but wouldn't know what one to go for. I want a nice quiet one too, no loud whirring noises >.>. I might even put it in a silent drive.

I'm thinking maybe this one (http://www.scan.co.uk/Product.aspx?WebProductId=879340). Mainly because my current one is a seagate barracuda and it's lasted 4 years in two different machines (touch wood). And it has nice cache and access time.

I'd go with that Seagate or the WD 640GB both Seagate and WD provide utilities you can download and burn to CD to accomplish your task

So with both HDDs connected I start and boot from the CD with the software on and it'll copy my current to the new one? I can then remove my current HDD and just use the old one and it should boot up exactly as it does now? Guna try to find the software now.

Right. You can reformat the old one after you successfully boot with the new one.

Alright awesome. I'll probably use the old one to backup inportant stuff every now and then.
