What d/l speed do you guys have? I have done the online speed tests, PCPitStop & the like, but I just want some comparisons from individual users. I use NetStatLive to monitor my connection.

Here is a pic in KiloBytes;

I know the upload don't look that high but I was downloading trailers so the act back didnt need a larger bandwidth.

I've never tried this test before so I hope these are the results you're looking for;

Great:( Now I know my ISP really sucks & to think its suppose to be the quickest in my country:o That or accessing American sites from my location really sucks.

I do have a question for you guys regarding the local machine readings. Mine used to read the name of my computer when I configure NetStatLive to shop my IP address but since late December it started reading something else. What could be causing this?

Here are my cable speeds done with the speed test from dslreports.com I have a 1.5/128 connection. I have tweaked it enough to surpass my download restrictions.

The cap is set by your cable company. You can use an uncapper program, and it might work for a few seconds before your cable company gets wind of it and cuts you off.

yea theres a uncapping program but and will uncap it but once you get on the internet your cable company authenticates you and will put the cap back on:(

there are some companys that still let you uncap it but not many

Did you guys figure out why the Local Name changed on NetStatLive? I started to have problems when this started & would like to know what is causing it so I can fix it or have the right reason to scream at my ISP. TIA guys:beer:

Comcast only caps their upload. The download is controlled via bandwidth throttling and special routers. Both of which aren't an exact science. That is how most Comcast users can expect about 2.5 meg tops on a 1.5 meg rated line.

Hello All,
This raised my wonder about my connections.
Here @ work I am "suppose" to be on a T1 line - LMAO
I just did a search, and tried a couple of Internet Speed Tests.
240kbs off a T1? My DSL @ Home(not the @Home Co.) is faster than that !

Seems I've got 3X a 56k but about 1/4 of a true T1.
And now I have to share it with 40 ppl !?!
Sux to be me ! Glad I don't pay for it.

Can't wait to get home and test what I do pay for......

Kingslayer

T-1's, Cable, and DSL are all three different monsters. You may have a T-1 at work, but how many people are sharing that line? I'd be willing to bet that your not the only person on that line. We share a t-1 with 50 people and get decent speed out of it.

Here's (http://home.cfl.rr.com/eaa/Bandwidth.htm) a good link to some speed tests I found.

I used Cnet.com's, ZDnet's & McAfee's.
Cnet: 584 Kbps
ZDnet: 589.6 Kbps
McAfee: 438 Kbps

And I am paying for 1MB service. :(
Think I need to make a phone call here.

I get really high speeds with my cable modem, close to the 1.5Mb mark. My upload is VERY bad, like 128Kb. My friends cable is uncapped at around 800Kb upload! I have a router, and theirfore those upload/download tests are not accurate for my computer. I get DL speeds of cose to 400KB/S!

Yodums
01-15-02, 06:35 PM
The 1.1mb download maybe just a "burst"

I have a 1.5/128 connection as well.

When its about 2am at night and I do the DSL Speed Test I get 38-40times faster than 56k.

While the traffic hours I get usually 10-20.

I have a 1.5/128 connection and average 30 times a 56k modem at DSL Reports. Definitely fast enough, but still would be nice to tweak it.

download «1509 kbps

upload «269 kbps

from speakeasy in chicago. this is what I average at most times of the day and using different test sites. not too shabby but I wish I could upload a bit faster.

Oni
01-16-02, 12:41 AM
Depending on the server I'm downloading from, I usualy get between 200 and 350 KBps, which is not too shabby. Uploading I get about 200, so thats not bad.

Rechecked my system on "Qwest's" internet speed test. and got a score in the mid-900 kbps range. lmao !
Anything else is in the 500 range. (Cnet, ZDnet.....etc.)
Really sux. They measure from me to them and back.
I guess that is what is measured. Not what "I" am getting elsewhere. Because of being redirected.
I get booted from games online 'cause the "ping" isn't great. Once I get back in, all is fine, usually. But this is constantly happening because of the poor connection. Err... high pings.

Anyone remember that Ma Bell 's a mother?
Guess who Qwest is?

Hey look at that we both from NJ and have the same ISP :P
I get about 700KB/s down and 200KB/s up
But the speed tests say about 1MB/s up and down which is crap, Thats not right at all, I never got any realistic speeds off those sites...

i got cablevision too!!
i had the terayon modem, but THEY(cablevision) made me get a surfboard 4100 by motorola. before 4100, upto 2 mb dl. now, around 400k avg, and 1mb on good night.

EDIT: I live on Nassau county though, not NJ(ewww..) and most people in my neighborhood are rich so they got cable modems too, like moi. Somehow dl. speeds are still descent, even with 'em downloading from morpheus and previously napster all the time.

I am sooo happy to have OOL. I had Helrizon DSL for about a year and a half. Mucho problems, system down, email down, email lost, and when they switched me to a dynamic IP I was unable to connect at all. Ugh, what a mess!

Every speed test I've done all show different speeds. But I can tell you one thing it blazes past dsl. :D

Why did they make you switch to a surfboard? When I first got the service they let me pick between the surfboard and the terajet.

I guess I don't live in as rich an area as you do. I don't notice very much difference in my speed from peak to off peak hours. BTW, isn't Nassau County close to bankruptcy? Maybe you should move to NJ, we do have faster broadband, muuaaahhaahaa.

thats the same problem I have

I get really bad ping times yet I still download at 600kb and upload at 100kb

I signed up for dsl 768/384 finaly so Im hopping they will give me a faster connection

I really dont use my d/l that much but I do need a fast u/l for gaming so I hope they will give me what I want.:)

There seems to be a new firmware upgrade for the 4100 here (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,2254670~root=cable,opt~mode=flat). Maybe it will help your speed a bit.

This is about as good as it gets for me.
My ISP (RoadRunner) has a large 50meg file on 1 of their servers that you can download to check your connection.
The attached snapshot was taken just as the download was completing & as you can see I get close to 2.0 mbps
:D
Normal browsing is alot slower ( 300-700 kbps ), due to alot of different reasons.

I should be getting a Terayon cable modem soon, right now I have a COM21 cable modem.
A friend already has one and he pays $6 per month extra for....uhm something like Digital TV or Plus TV, but that almost doubled his D/L speed:eek: (I'm gonna get that too):D .
Anyway my D/L speed is about 600+kbps (average after 20 tests, done on two different test servers(10 tests per server)).

Using DSLReports I get about 350kbps D/L and 100+kbps U/L
Keep in mind that I live in Holland and the test servers I used are in the US, and I still need to tweak it.

Rogers(Previously broke off from @home) Cable.
This is with Speedguide.net tweaks and on really traffic hours(6:30pm)..

Test running..........
** Speed 2257(down)/575(up) kbps **
(At least 45 times faster than a 56k modem)
Finish.

Only upload wise right? There usually aren't downtime caps unless your ISP is really on some kind of tight bandwidth.

Well if you only find out your upload will never go beyond a point or your download will never go beyond a point means its basically capped.

Or ask someone with that ISP

There is a Charter pipeline forum here (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/charter). There is also a good broadband tweaks forum here (http://www.dslreports.com/forum/news,61). I use DrTcp that you can find here (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/tweaks).
