Installing it with the optional turbo fans on my friend's Sapphire 4850. I have everything taken apart and the package includes 8 ramsinks, and 4 heatsinks.

The 4 other heatsinks they gave... where do I put them, A (green) or B (purple)? I don't have enough to cover both. Thanks.

Doesnt the stock copper sink cover both of those already?

What I mean is, (I don't own a 4850, but my 3870 was like this), can't you remove the stock cooler and keep the sink on that piece, or is it all one BIG piece together for the entire cooler?

I'm not sure about the ATI cards but they went on the B purple (voltage regulators) on my nvidia cards.

Look at the back side of the stock heatsink and see if there is a thermal pad or a contact area there that lines up.

It's part of the cooler unfortunately.

I'd go for the purple if I had to choose, but get some cheap aftermarket ones on the green if possible.

I was browsing like crazy and found out that the accelero s1 r2 doesn't have enough heatsinks for the 4850 after all. It could have been a rumor, but I'm not doubting it. I don't want to doubt my knowledge/experience, so the fact that I even created this thread goes to show you that both A and B probably need to be cooled.

I ended up putting sinks on all of it as I don't want to risk anything. I had TWO accelero s1 r2 packages for my friends (both brothers). I opened up the other and yanked sinks out of those since I still have to do the other brother's video card (the other card is an 8800gts 320)... I'm just going to buy more sinks for him.

Thanks for the help guys.

I used a bunch of spares and it worked very well. Just random sinks I had and brollocks sent me some way back.

If I didn't have enough I would put what I had on the purple ones (the VRMs) these can get real hot.

That was where I started, but what's funny is my friend was looking for instructions on youtube and the guy in the youtube video (although it was somewhat professional) didn't put it on the VRMs. Actually the 2 brothers that I was with were like, "okay... see?" And I said... "I'm still not convinced."

It's a good thing I did further research and didn't leave those naked. If it was up to them and if it wasn't for my GUT FEELING, I would have put them on the GREEN.

Anyway, all good now as I've got more sinks on the way for them. Thanks everyone! :)

These (http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/product_accessories.html#pwn-sink) PWM heatsinks for the 8800GT should be a perfect fit for the 4850. According to the installation instructions (http://www.thermalright.com/new_a_page/product_page/vga/hr03gt/installation_vga_cooler_hr03gt.htm#3870_3850) on TR's website for using these sinks on 3870/3850 cards the PWM looks very similar to the 4850 pictured at the top of this thread.

you only need to put them on the purple ones. Cooling the green area gives no returns and depending on how you apply them can be a risk for breaking the card

The heatsinks I was gonna give them were some of my spares, but I'd honestly rather buy them a set... benbaked, where's cheapest to find those?

The inductors may not need the sinks, but I remember seeing a thermal picture of a mobo somewhere on this forum where the inductors were red hot. I would think that adding sinks to them can't hurt anything...whether it helps OC or not I'm not sure. I tend to sink first, and ask questions later.

What risk of breaking the card? If you use epoxy then yes, the epoxy does not like to let go of those inductors at all.

With a quick google search the only place I found that carries them is Sidewinder Computers (http://www.sidewindercomputers.com/th88pw.html). Looks like $5 plus shipping.

Inductors (Green) really don't need cooling, they are after all metal coils. If they get hot, they get hot, they aren't going to blow up.

There's two versions of the accelero s1 rev.2, one of them has the correct sinks for the 4850/4870, one of them does not. The one I got has the wrong sinks, I had to makeshift the sinks for the voltage regulators by breaking a long heatsink in half. I've seen the other package with the correct sinks, I think that is the one you have. I would say just put sinks over both, you can't ever be too safe, what else are you gonna use it for? The stock heatsink covers both, so might as well.

Breaking the stock heatsink is not an option b/c of warranty. I figured it all out anyway. Thx. :)

I just installed an Accelero S1 onto my 4850 last night, I used some TR 8800GT PWM sinks for sinking the 4850's PWM...however it appears that Arctic Cooling is now including four separate sinks with the Accelero S1 instead of the single long sink they used to include, and these look like they'll cover the green and purple areas adequately. These are what I used on the inductors.

Ya I realized the newer ones have it, though I did improvise the last time for my buddies. :)
