Ok i have win2k under fat32 and i wanna convert to ntfs, i heard that you have to type someting in start->Run to do it. Whats the command?
right out of the windows help file :)
To convert a volume to NTFS from the command prompt
Open Command Prompt.
In the command prompt window, type
convert drive_letter: /fs:ntfs
For example, typing convert D: /fs:ntfs would format drive D: with the ntfs format.
Notes
To open command prompt, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
You can convert FAT or FAT32 volumes to NTFS with this command.

You can convert fat32 to NTSF without formatting your hardrive. All it does is, it changes the files, it does not format anything. But, if you wanna convert back to fat32, then you'll have to format your hardrive, just be sure you really wanna convert to NTSF because the only way to go back to fat32 is a gool ol format.

ya i also need to know how to do this i have win98, wait i bet i have to have one of the newer os dont i?
Win98 cannot use NTFS. FAT and FAT32 are your only choices.
With Windows 2000, open a command prompt and type in CONVERT X: /FS:NTFS where X is the drive you want to convert to NTFS. If the drive is in use it will tell you that it will do the conversion at the next boot up. If you decide to go ahead and reboot it will ask you if you want to continue with the conversion...just signify "Y" for yes and let it do its thing.

Backup just in case! I have only heard of converting to NTFS with a format, but I guess it can be done without. I always backup my data just in case ;)
