I ordered a CORSAIR Flash Voyager 16GB USB flash drive from Newegg yesterday. (killer deal w/ promo code) Every time I have ordered from Newegg in the morning, it has always come the next day when it ships from La Puente, CA. I'm located in Anaheim, CA. I placed my order at 10:50 AM and Newegg had a status of "shipped" by the end of the day.

Well, there's a first time for everything. This is the first time I didn't get my order "next day". It's also the first time I've ordered something from Newegg that was sent DHL SmartMail. DHL SmartMail doesn't seem to be too smart. I can't track it through Newegg or DHL's site.

I know... I know... It said 3-7 days shipping when I ordered it. And yes, I would like some cheese and crackers with my whine. :)

All I've got to say is it better show up tomorrow. I'll let you guys know!

I had the same problem with some RAM last week. The tracking code Newegg gives you is wrong, as it doesn't work on DHL's site and I've asked them about it. After your tracking says "shipped" on newegg, they sorta stop updating the tracking and telling you where it is.

DHL smart mail will be delivered by USPS .. UPS and FedEx also have a similar kind of service and they all suck.:santa2:

Basically DHL pickup the package and route it to wherever your post office is and they deliver it there.. Then you mail carrier will deliver it to your house.. I had a router sit 10 miles from me for 4 days.

What's ironic of course is that the USPS already piggybacks off of FedEx for any movement of parcels that can't be done by truck. You'd think Smartpost would be a little better implemented since they're doing the same thing just about.

Be prepared to wait a long time. Whenever Woot ships crap to me Smartpost, it takes a minimum of 2 weeks to arrive.

Their shipping icon is appropriate:

Yep, you are screwed! I used to get stuff from NewEgg in Memphis pretty much next day. With the 'smartmail' junk, it took a week. Due to the lovely experience I had with newegg's customer service, I started shopping elsewhere.

Its so sad that a lot of neweggs "free shipping" deals are no longer shipped via the FedEx Express Saver. That service was the best!

I can now track my package up to the point where DHL gave it to USPS. Here's what the tracking looks like on Newegg's site:

It looks like somtimes you need to go backwards in order to go forwards.

A = Newegg warehouse
B = USPS / DHL
C = My house

Newegg has been spoiling me all these years! I want my USB flash drive now!

Wow you're close too bad there's no pickup option. I got something small by this service a few months ago, normally UPS ground comes to me next day from the NJ warehouse, this one arrived on a Tuesday after being ordered Thursday night. Not bad really and about comparable to UPS ground from other places I just happen to get things fast from the NJ warehouse. I understand why they offer this as the free shipping option on small items after all the transportation cost increases through the summer but I also don't get why they don't do straight USPS...First Class cross-country only takes like 3 days.

It is a strange way to ship. My Zip code got messed up somewhere along the way, I think that delayed mine a day or two. NewEgg had me spoiled. With regular UPS I got stuff the next day if it shipped from Memphis!

I got a question, when it says free shipping, does it not say UPS 3 day anymore? does there invoice actually state DHL smartpost?

hafaphoto
10-25-08, 05:32 PM
It states what kind of shipping they are going to use. I just did not think anything of it, I figured the mail might be a day slower. But it took a lot longer.

Like I said, they had me spoiled with that free next day stuff!

UPS Gounrd = '(Free) 3 Business Day Shipping'

DHL/USPS = 'Free 3-7 Business Day Shipping'

I have had two orders from newegg come by DHL and both took 7 working days plus the weekends.Even though its free shipping its not worth it.Both times DHL was the carrier it was a mistake on my part.I didnt notice it was DHL.I will always choose to pay for shipping from newegg if the free shipping is through DHL

smartmail sux ... what it is, is dhl (fedex also offers a variation called smartpost) picks up from the shipper and delivers to your local USPS mail distribution center from whence it is delivered to your door by USPS ... it is clumsy, inefficient and once delivered to USPS, untrackable ... it is only "smart" for the shipper as it is dirt cheap ... the stories i could tell you are mind boggling at how screwed up and inefficient this program is

We all know that USPS is an overfinanced operation that operates at 25% effeciency.

Its almost like the Ford motor corp.

I received my CORSAIR Flash Voyager 16GB USB flash drive. I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived on Monday. So, it took 2 business days to arrive. It took a total of 4 days if you count the weekend. To be honest, I have more time than money right now so I'll take the free shipping even if it means an extra day.

Overall, I have nothing to complain about. I got a 16GB USB flash drive for $19.99! When you consider my first hard drive was a 20MB 5¼ half height Seagate ST-225 which cost over $100, it boggles the mind. What a world we live in!

It's nice to see Newegg chime in on this thread. I've got nothing but love for Newegg. DHL SmartMail, not so much...

10-28-08, 12:26 PM
you got lucky .... the worst part about these programs, is, you cant even call (as the shipper) DHL/FedEX and request a shipping upgrade or redirect like you can thru their regular programs, i know, i tried at 1 point for a customer. once it ships by this method all you can do is wait it out

yep i waited 11 days for my Ram.Wouldnt have been so bad but i sold my ram thinking i would have the new ram in 3 days.So i shipped off my 4x1gig set and had to use a 2x256mb kits for 9 days..lol.And neweggs warehouse is only like 60 or70 miles from me so i figured even DHL would it have to me in 3 or 4 days tops

Yeah, I refuse to accept free shipping from NewEgg now. ("EggSaver Shipping")
I always get stuff next day (I like 2 hours from their Memphis warehouse) when it comes UPS or FedEx but I got my RAM after 8 days of travelling.

It went from Memphis to Hebron Kentucky (7.5hrs north of Memphis) before going BACK to Memphis, then to me in Henderson.
Meh.

for those that dont know DHL is no longer. Newegg wont use them. So they will go back to FedEx or UPS. They may even go to USPS.

Smart Post is through USPS. If a company uses it they have to ship out 300 or more packages a day with it. Its good for APO address and stuff. Guys come on its free.

Yes, you won't be seeing much DHL anywhere in the coming months...BTW the UPS version is called Basic.

Sigh, I just ordered ram and fallout 3 on wed and didn't notice this eggsaver shipping on checkout. It looks like I wont be seeing it until sometime next week, when normally with UPS it would have been here already :-(

I think this is the first time Ive been truly disappointed with Newegg. I was really looking forward to being able to play fallout 3 this weekend, I guess I should have just gone to Best Buy rather than give my business to Newegg for this.

I know this is an older thread, but just a word of warning, Newegg is still using DHL Smartmail. I got trapped in it once and said never again, but must not have paid attention and ordered a stick of ram Wed. and it went DHL Smartmail. I probably won't see it before New Years. What I don't like is it is hard to tell how it will ship when Newegg says free shipping. Many items ordered recently with free shipping came UPS in a day or two.

Newegg should drop DHL Smartmail.

Hey, the Egg. Are you guys actually doing anything with all of this noise, or are you ignoring it?

While us on the other end of the keyboard probably should pick something else from the drop-down menu, DHL->USPS is admittedly fairly lousy.

Of course, DHL Domestic is going away effective December 31 January 30, 2009, so we won't have to deal with it much longer.

Yeah, this is pathetic! I had my last order for some notebook memory take 9 days to get to me through these chaps. And now I have ordered a 32 meg flash drive "Ordered Sunday night" and I haven't a clue as to where it is at, and I can't track it. Just as surly as I am writing this I am going to start giving negative reviews about Newegg's free shipping with DHL on Newegg. I do a lot of business with Newegg, at least a hundred a month and sometimes over a thousand, but I definitely have other places I can and have bought from with free shipping before. ZipZoomFly, Micro Warehouse and MWave are some. And a word of advice to all of you; Never put all your faith and confidence in one company, you'll be let down every time at some point. I like Newegg and it is my main place for computer parts, by far, but it is NOT my only place! Never burn your bridges and always keep as many options open as possible to fall back on.

It's only for small stuff like RAM that can fit in a padded envelope. Last week I got a G Skill rAM set that came Eggsaver, ordered Sunday and it arrived Friday.

I just wish Newegg would go straight through the USPS since that's the final delivery method anyway. It would cut a few days out of the delivery time.

I can poop in a box.

You still don't want it.

Point made?

DHL is gone.
Not according the the ram I got today from newegg, courtesy of their "free shipping".

I waited 8 days for a package that would have been in 2 or 3 for ups ground or usps parcel post. I wasn't in a hurry, so it's no big deal, but it's still a crappy service. Can using two carriers like this actually be saving newegg money on shipping? It doesn't seem logical...

Would you like that UPS, USPS, or DHL smartcrap?

I'm not saying I won't buy from them. I have a decent opinion of newegg and their service, despite this deficiency in their service. Sometimes I will even take the poor free shipping service, for items which I do not need in a timely manner.

Maybe the reason it sticks out like a sore thumb is because every other aspect of my dealings with newegg has been pretty good.

I had a similar problem recently: Ordered from Newegg (who is located around 4 hours away from me), DHL took the package THIRTY miles from Newegg's facility and handed it off to USPS. If Newegg had just given it to USPS from the start, it would have been here a day sooner.

ROFL! That is typical of a carrier system like that. It's just inefficient for a short delivery system.
