I want to make my own homemade window mod. What will I need? I really like the clean look of the Lian Li case windows such as on the PC-65.

Any suggestions on how to make it look like that?

i havent yet modded a window because i am waiting on a case. but...i know what you need.
first off, you need a tool like a Dremel to cut the aluminum. goto www.dremel.com and check out the rotary tools. they will cut the aluminum like its nothin'! oyu also need some plexiglass, or something to use for the window. OR...you could buy a window kit if you wanted to make it easier. after you cut the hole, you'll need something to secure the window in the hole, like molding tape or something. thats about it!

The way i did my window was using a hole saw for the corners, and then a sheet metal cutter to cut between the holes, The tools required for this are probably a bit over what you have, i would go with a dremel. As for the window i used a piece of plexi, and for trim i got some edging that is basically a bunch of little mettal U shaped pieces that fit over the edge of the panel, and are encased in rubber. I dont know what to call it, but it looks sharp. Then i just glued the plexi to the back of this trim using superglue.
Frozen CPU has some window kits you can buy, they come with instructions and whatnot... http://www.frozencpu.com

Does anyone know how to mount the actual window flush with the case side cover without having to use those fat looking black rubber..........I dont know what theyre called. Do you know what I'm talking about?

my question is: if i cut the hole first, what size should i cut the lucite? smaller or larger than the hole? and by how much?

i just put a window in my antec sx1030
i just used a jig saw to cut the hole.
used some 2.50 door trim from walmart
a 8 dollar sheet of plexi from hardware
and some double sided tape.
cut the hole.
then i put on door trim.
then i cut the glass
put double sided tape on inside
stuck glass to tape
bammm :)
was easy
thanks to rufunky for his tutorial!
pogue1000, is your window flush with the case using tape? Or does it look good enough it doesnt matter or you cant tell? I already cut the case with the dremel but am waiting to find some good molding so I can finish

yes it is flush right up to the stripping.
at walmart u will see silver and black...
i put the moulding around the hole. .. since the moulding was a lil thick. i stuck the double sided tape right of the edge of the moulding in the inside of the door. then i noticed that i had to make the tape double thickness and it fit just right.
it looks pretty cool! fits really secure
and all if the window gets scratched or anything it will be easy to replace :)
pogue1000 how about a pic?
What i did was cut the hole in the case then went harmon autoglass and paid 15 bucks for them to put it in for me, it looked perfect.

You have any pics. I would really like to see what it looks like. I don't really like the look with the stripings.

Well ok. The pic isnt the greatest. It was night time and i got a lot of reflection. I got this cam for xmas and when i took this i had just got it. The camera is great though.
Its the Sony DSC-P50. Great camera i suggest it. With someone looking in the 400 to 500 range.
ok here it is.

Well, pogue, I think your idea is the best in my case. As far as pics are going, I'm still in the planning stages of my next rig so I dont really have any of the hardware, but I'll probably hacking up a Lian Li PC70 full tower. I really liked the look of the rivets in the PC65, anyone know how to get anything to replicate that? Also, I dont want a really humongous window, so I'll probly design something that looks cool. Any ideas on what to make my window look like?

heres a good site with window kits and light kits! http://www.coolerguys.com/ they have reliable kits that come with instuctions... so if youre new to modding, then it wouldnt hurt to purchase your first window kit there (because of the included detailed instructions)... and of course, its easy (if you have the right tools.).
