View Full Version : Where did you buy your Kingmax 2700, how much was it, and did you have any trouble?
I got mine for $77 at Kommax.com, they sent me the wrong stuff, but fixed it to my satisfaction. I'll do business with them again.
But their price is up to $97 now and I want to get more, before it really gets out of hand, so I'm asking to see where people had good results buying this stuff, and get the best price from a place that performed without hassle.

I just placed an order for 2x256MB sticks of Kingmax PC2700 from www.crazypc.com which I chose based on their 6.9/7 (!) www.resellerratings.com standing. This is based on about 70 entries, so they sound like an upright company, didn't ripoff on shipping, and with great prices too! My only concern is whether I get "real" -05 PC2700 RAM or not, but from other posts that sounds like a Kingmax issue, not a reseller one.
Kommax.com sounds like they took care of you, but some older resellerratings.com posts were rather horrific. Maybe they got new management?
I expect it to get here around Wednesday, so I will keep you updated.
PS It was $95 a stick, which is obviously more than a few months ago but looked like a competitive price for the PC2700 now...

Gatineau Quebec, a five minute car ride from Ottawa :D
Thanks for responding guys! We all know the price of ram is going nowhere but up, and in fact it could be way way up before too long- so since we've got a few different products that ppl round here know are good, (and this kingmax seems to be one of them) then I'm going to try and stockpile some of it. I sure hope it doesn't go obsolete before I get to use it all.

RE: my post above, I emailed crazyPC to see what was up, and I got this reply:
Hi,
I've spoken with Kingmax tech support and they tells us that they are all 5ns memory whether or not marked 75 70a or 05. Personally, I can't vouch for this as I have no method of verifying if this is correct. However, the current batch we have in-stock is marked 05. This batch should last us the next few days.
Regards,
Nick
CrazyPC.com
So, according to this fellow, the Kingmax PC2700 stuff, no matter the marking, is all 5ns. Don't know if that means "rated" 5ns or "tested" 5ns, but whatever, cuz I am getting the "-05" marking anyway :) Possibly these are just different production runs or revision markings by Kingmax? If you desperately need the "-05" marking to make you feel happy, maybe order from here, he says the "-05" should last for a few days. They had a fair price and good shipping $$ too. $12 for 2-day UPS, not too shabby.
I am receiving this package on Wednesday according to UPS (lol, I take that day with a grain of salt) so I will repost then.

I emailed Kingmax N. America and asked if they have any distributors for Brazil or Canada. I got a reply saying they do not. Well, I'm going to be ordering several 256 Mb sticks this week, so if you like, I can order some extra. I won't be sticking my neck out too far, because if you default, I'll still have use for it.
We'll have to talk more about this- USPS won't insure it, and all other shippers who will insure will also charge an arm and a leg. So let's figure out first of all what form of payment will work between our countries, and then what shipping company you want to use and how much you can pay for shipping.
When I recieve payment, and confirm that the transfer is finalized, then I will ship by whatever means you choose. It's kind of a slow way of doing it, but then I guess slow is better than not at all.
If either of you, Amair_sc or TacoBell, want to go forward with this plan, I will help, and I see now Trance Bear has also offered to help.

Qbit is up to $100, and Kommax is at $97 still, may as well be the same price. Kommax charges 9.19 to ship to me USPS priority mail, qbit gets 10.78 to ship UPS 3-5 day. It's a wash. But they did send you the right part the first time. I wonder if we should be looking at the vendor, or at kingmax for that 5ns-7a fiasco. I don't know I'm buying it they're both the same.

PS I ordered today and they send me the tracking already, after a few hours, they are quick!!!

Personally I think someone at kingmax stuck the 2700 stickers on the wrong part.
I would go with kommax since they are aware of the problem as qbit might not be yet.

I am lucky to have this stuff in stock at the store, the -5 ones!! I have 15 sticks as of 5pm. I will do my best to arrange for everybody outside the US to somehow get some. As of today the price was $100. E-mail me and I can make arrangments. I can take pay-pal. I hope I can help you guys out.
This is yet one more reason why I love this place- people coming together to help each other out- you're awesome trancebear!
You guys just let me know if I can help.
In that reply I got from Kingmax she said if I'm interested in buying their product to let her know. I'm not sure what that means, but maybe I can get a deal. Probably not, though, since most manufacturers won't go behind the backs of their distributors like that. Bad for business. I wonder if she thinks I'm a vendor, since I asked about selling in 2 different countries? I'll find out.
I have 2 5ns 256 parts and am happy with them so far even though I haven't tried anything higher than 166 fsb yet. They are stable at cas 2 there. CTSPD reads them as 6ns parts not 5ns. They were around $80 each at KOMAX. Has anyone used CTSPD to read the -07 parts? I bet they read 7.5ns because that is what the original white paper for the part # stated.

Like I've said before, I don't understand why people keep going back to CTSPD as any sort of proof of chip speed. CTSPD reads its information directly from the NORTHBRIDGE not the RAM CHIPS. The only chipset that officially supports 166MHz FSB is the ALi Magik1, and I'm not sure if it reads correctly on that or not. The Kingmax 5ns contains true 5ns chips, CTSPD is wrong and can't be trusted. So, if you want to save your self some headache, just ignore any information that came from CTSPD and quit trying to use it to support false opinions.

So Herbal, what do you think of CTSPD? Don't *****-foot around, give us your honest opinion!:D hehe

It's just really annoying when ignorant people keep trying to prove their ignorance by using some crappy program that gives false information to prove their bogus theories. I just thought some people would be smarter than that :D .
