Before a flaming war breaks out between ATI and nVidia fanboys saying how their next-gen card is gonna kick the other teams arse, keep in mind all this is still rumors ;) And just when you thought it was safe to buy a HD 4870x2 :sn:

RV870 - New Details (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fnews.ati-forum.de%2Findex.php%2Fnews%2F34-amdati-grafikkarten%2F83-rv870-neue-details%3Flang%3Dde&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=de&tl=en)
About the RV870 are piling up in recent years gradually more and more rumors. Now we have AMD from a nearby source of new information and details, sowei confirmations regarding the new GPU will receive.

The RV870 is supposed (as rumors already said) with at least 1000 shader units expected. In addition, the GPU in 40nm processes will be manufactured. As previously announced, the tape-out of the RV870 nor the end of this year. According to our source, wants the AMD RV870 to the end of 1Q 2009 "Market Ready" hold.
The theoretical performance of the Lil Dragon will be at about 1.5 TFlops lie, but so details are not yet known.

The size of the GPU, to approximately 205mm ² amount; to Verlgeich: a Radeon HD4800 GPU (RV770) chip has a surface area of 256mm ², an Nvidia GeForce GTX260/280 chip has a surface area of 576mm ².

The memory interface is at least a throughput of 150-160GB / s reach. This is very likely to GDDR5 memory, with the one already very good experiences made. Whether a 512bit memory interface is used is not currently known. Rumors say, however, already made that a 512bit interface is likely. As recently reported, the upcoming HD5800 series with 1GB GDDR5 standard equipment.

Further states that the planned dual-GPU via MCM (multi-chip module) is manufactured. This means that both processing units in a housing (similar to Intel's Core 2 Quad) are located. Sun will also provide a quad-GPU graphics card possible. This would be a useful procedure, cards cheap to manufacture and efficient technically to achieve greater leaps. Vorrausgesetzt, you get the multi-GPU technical problems such as Mikroruckler and inefficiency in the handle.

AMD is the power (theoretical value) in idle for half of the current models have decreased. Also, the heat is using a nine cooling (the first time use) held in the bridle. About the power under load is unfortunately not known.

DirectX 11 is on board. Thus, the new API from mid-2009 move into the PC gaming world.

We hope that AMD with the last infusion of R600 a powerful, but also (in power) thrifty GPU on the market will throw, free of (multi-GPU) Mikrorucklern and high heat.

512 bit interface...i doubt the die will be that small with it, and even if it is, it will cost a lot more.

The 2900XT's was 512 bit. Which is 2 generations behind current cards. So it should be possible.

Isn't that what people were saying about the RV770 when they heard it had 800 shaders in it?

Yes.

Quad gpu card, now that will be a sight to see.

2009 going to be a great year for hardware by then new I7, X58 and now quad GPU. I hope that I can afford all that new technology! Maybe I just need to drill for oil in Alaska?? Or maybe Obama will help the middle class buy more computer with more taxes on the rich.
