So guys(and girls)... fallout 3 is out tomorrow... anyone excited?
For anyone who doesn't know, fallout 3... pretty similar to oblivion just in FPS format. You could also call it... like a do whatever you want mix of Half Life and Oblivion(hmm maybe that might be more accurate). It looks pretty good, has the graphics of oblivion, but of course been updated in many ways.
Heres the first official vid from bethesda, although i must say #4 and #5 are the most exciting by far.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dAjzC4h51A&feature=related
I will be buying 'er up tomorrow and cranking out a gaming day. Who knows i might call in "sick" from work and just "work" from home all day ;).
Anyone else pumped for this? I have not played the other fallouts but honestly they don't look that good... i'm not a huge fan of the... turn based 3rd person diablo style game. Although diablo is amazing just not if it was turn based.
So lets get this thread pumpin peeps!
It's about time this game is released, I've been waiting awhile for it. My copy is already being shipped and will be here tomorrow.

I am excited, I just can't decide between getting the XBOX 360 or PC version.
looks good but ill wait for the reviews...
friend of mine has it for the 360 and said there is a lot of blablablablablablabla
so i dunno...ill wait for some comments and see what bugs it comes out with, i think ive had enough with FC2 :D
Think about this console guys. If Fallout 3 is anything nearly as moddable as Oblivion was, you'll definitely wanna go PC.

Yea that is the only reason why I didn't preorder it for the XBOX 360. Guess I will wait and see what mods people come out with.
Fallout shouldn't be on the consoles anyway. It's a classic crpg.

I agree and disagree. I think it should be on PC only because like you said, classic game... stop offering it on other consoles.
However i disagree because it is pretty much oblivion and they were on other console. Also however because fallout isn't quite as popular as some games out there and this is a great marketing to get it on the market. Starcraft did the same thing with its poor poor n64 version. If the N64 had the same abilities as the PC i'm sure we would have had a lot of people gaming online off of it.
If the game is as good as it looks i am excited to see the next one for sure and multi console will only help me to see that.
Oh and crap some Canadian stores don't have this is until the 29th... pre-orders set to send on the 28th. I hope we didn't get jacked a day. I planned to be sick on Wednesday... haha we'll see.
Edit. Yes dapoets it is single player. Also this type of game wouldn't work multiplayer. There is too much freedom to harass other people it just wouldn't be fun for the harassee. It's just not designed to be a multiplayer experience.
Yep singleplayer only. And Oblivion was a fine game and all, but just look at the interface. I think it'll be very hard for anyone to say that that was an improvement on Morrowind's interface system. The dialog system wasn't very good either. Now it wasn't much different than Morrowind's, but it did have a lot less substance. It was pretty much: *Insert generic quest here*, Imperial City, Rumors. Although I guess I shouldn't blame this 100% on the consoles since Fallout 3 has a much more impressive dialog system but I haven't seen much on the interface system yet.

Well, it does come out tomorrow on steam, anyone going to buy it then?
oh damn. Yes i will. Gives me a reason to get achievements(as they probably copy all the same ones from the Xbox but have virtually no point whatsoever... lol)
Uhm well at least oblivion had a questbook. If you're running around randomely you might accept quests from 5 different people and in Morrowind it was very easy to forget because you couldn't tell what the quest was without reading a walkthrough,FAQ, or some book that tells you what quests this person gives.
I like the interface a bit more in this one. It truly is unique for sure, has some improvements but even something that looks nice could be garbage so we will see it's true functionality.
EDIT that and i totally forgot i could spend all day downloading it and just remote desktop into my home pc to get it started. Saves me from going to any stores and if by chance finding out they are all sold out(i doubt it but maybe). Age of Conan was sold out here and it was crap.
Look at the developer diaries they have some pretty interesting stories. http://fallout.bethsoft.com/eng/vault/diaries_diary7-10.27.08.html
And yes the worst thing about Morrowind was the cryptic directions you would get for quests. Oblivion got that part right.

Well after a few let downs of paying full prices on fresh releases, I'm going to hold off until after the new year..I don't care how many go buck wild and say the game is awesome this and that...I'm waiting 'till after the new year....It will be just as awesome then. I've come to the point that I will not buy games on release or a month into release anymore.....Plus I hardley finish the ones I have anyways...heh...I'm so overloaded with unfinished games...it's kinda sad.
On the Morrowind note...that game was/is amazing..with the different houses and factions atmosphere, the inventroy IMHO is the best. I was always tweaking my armour parts and the ability to wear a robe over it all was the isht.

Eh it's $50 not much to complain about. I hate more going out for dinner and it being awful and that you cant get back ever.
I liked that morrowind you could move candles around. In Oblivion they took it out and the only way to do it was to use a mod and it causes issues with a lot of the wall hanging candles.
Hhaha porkchops the fish lady... hideous. haha. She looks like a ******. Nice to see some dev screenshots. I like you can make yourself a home and dumb all your stuff still. I was a fan of picking up virtually everything. Keeping the cool stuff and selling the junk for uber easy cash.
I think this game willl be better than Oblivion. Don't get me wrong I love Oblivion and got it on day one and have played it to death. But I bet Bethesda has learned a lot from Oblivion and have made some great improvements for Fallout 3.

Everyone is saying OMG ITS GONNA BE BAD BLAH BLAH BLAH....Bethesda has learned so much from Oblivion, what to do, what not to do, modding support, bug fixes, it's just gonna be a great game.

Looks like there are major driver issues with Fallout 3. I can't seem to even play the game other than in slideshow mode. I have a lot of experience with drivers and such. All other games play just fine. Appears to be Fallout 3 specific. Good luck hopefully i can figure this out.

I feel obligated to get it for PC for a couple reasons.
1) Fallout was originally a PC game, one of my favorites
2) I like to support PC games that don't have the rediculus limited activation DRM

Judging by the videos on gametrailers, game might dissapoint
The enemy AI acts stupid, animations look rushed.
The textures seem waay higher res than Oblivion
Edit: Damn it still looks pretty sick, I might pick it up wednesday
Edit2: Damn it looks like a ton of fun.

I have a gtx280 ordered, so I'm going to wait another day or two. Yeah its going to be brutal. It does come with FarCry 2.
Anyways I have confidence that this will be the first knockout title of the season, which hasn't gotten off to a good start, imo. I remember quarl's texture pack (3rd party) for Oblivion very much using the 768mb on my 88GTX, I can't wait to see what the community cooks up for F3. :) :)

Single Player game huh?...
To each his own, I just don't see playing by myself any fun... I have some single player games on my Nintendo 64 and they all collect dust and the only ones that were ever touched were Mario Cart and Super Smash Brothers due to the multi-player aspect of them. I have tried PC games at lans that are single player and I don't see the point. Seems kind of Lonely. Now when you put a shotgun at someone's forehead in CoD4 and blow them away in 1 shot at a lan and everyone goes OOOOOHHHHHH!!! now that is fun!

DaPoet I'm like you, I havn't played a single player game in years, i hate them. But the last single player game I played was Fallout 2 when I was like 15. And I think the only other single player game I will be playing for awhile is Fallout 3.
Fallout series was very good. I hope they keep the bar high, I pre-ordered it on steam, so the download should be around 2:00pm eastern!
I'll be in class though but hopefully my roommate can start the install
My preorder came and I'm installing it now! It's such a beautiful sight. I think I'm going to cry.

good question, i hope so!
Anyone know if there are any stores giving a good deal on it? Frys often has $34.99 deals on newely released games. I will be going after work to pick up FO3 and I am trying to see if there are any specials.
Very doubtful it will drop by that much. Most I've seen for sales on new game are dropped by only $5.

Mods should be available for steam FO3. Nothing is different from the CD with exception of the run. If we have a mod manager with a console load then yes... it will be different and i doubt be allowed.
However you can still install stuff into the FO3 folder like normal just the handling of the game is slightly different. I bet it will be allowed but i could understand if it isn't. Personally i will be upset if it isn't cause i enjoyed modding my oblivion.
woohoo downloading now. SHOULD be done by the time i get home and i can forget i even have a life for the next couple days.
When Oblivion came out Frys had it on launch day for $34.99. Also Orange Box Circuit City had it for $34.99 also. I was hoping there would be a similar deal :P

uhm does anyone else think this game might be multiplayer? I check my CD key on steam and it says "This is your multiplayer CD key for fallout 3. You will need to enter this code after the game has launched."
If this is true my mind has been blown... anyone confirm?
PS. I am disappointed with the download speed. 200kb/s...? I was downloading from Intel this morning @ 2.3mb/s big difference. I assume there are 50,000 other people downloading with me too though haha.

I have high hopes for this game, but will not be buying on day 1. I was duped in buying FC 2 and I though it was horrible despite decent reviews and people's comments.
ign has a section call "head to head" where they compare PC vs X360 x PS3, well ign made the PC version of FO3 1st place followed by X360...the PC version kicked ass on pretty much every aspect...
preordered mine about a month ago, and its in the UPS truck right now waiting to be delivered. Kind of concerned though, there has been talk over at the Bethesda forums about the SecuRom causing install problems for people with software like Nero installed. Not really interested in uninstalling other legitimate software I own for some artificial reason. I dunno, well see. Hope I can play this 1920x1200 with everything turned up provided it will install of course.

HD 4850 couldn't handle it @ 1680x1050 with 4x AA? Dang I might need to hop on that $200 GTX260 deal. With this game, I wonder if the HD 4850 is crippled due to its 512MB buffer, or its clock speeds?

Very respectable rig for Fallout 3 I think. I wonder since F3 is using pretty close to the original Oblivion engine that it will see a benefit from a higher clocked CPU? Looking through the INI file I'm already tempted to start changing stuff left and right, all the old settings from Oblivion haven't really changed name, and the threaded stuff is still there too, hmmm....I haven't had the game a day yet and I can't stop myself from tweaking things haha.

I actully think it's some kind of driver or game glitch, because outside just walking around I'll be fine around 30-40 with 8xAA , but after I use Vault than everything get's laggy. Does anyone know when to expect updated drivers from nvidia for optimization of this game
I just went through the intro and got to the birthday party. My 8800gt is ok at the moment at 1280x960 4x AA with ultra settings but I have a feeling once I go outside it'll get really slow. I'll get back to this thread with actual fps as soon as I finish this cheeseburger lol.
EDIT:Ok the lowest I've gotten is 55 fps inside in a bigger sized room but to be honest it feels slower than that somehow. I wonder if fraps is really working properly. Haven't gone outside yet. Almost there i think.

I still can't believe they turned my favorite game of all time, into a first person shooter.
I was willing to buy what ever hardware to run the game as nice as it could run. No expenses spared. Nope not for another FPS.
To me its like making Diablo in to a FPS.
I hope all of you who enjoy the shooter genre get loads of fun out of it. It does look slick and fun. I was very much looking for something closer to how the original was. Didn't have to be exact, but this is not even close to the genre FO started..
Falout was THE only game I ever looked forward to. So bare with me being honestly sad.

Update: All I can say this is very cool so far. I made it out of the vault. But so far I like what I see. Anyways 1680x1050 Ultra settings, 2AA and 16AF is a go on my 9800GT Ultimate @775/1836/2200 40-50 outside sometimes dipping a bit lower, inside smooth 60. I use V-Sync. I hate tearing.

Hey, been stuck playing to long to update lol.
My friends 8800GT G92 @ 700/1800/2000 is running 1680x1050, Ultra Settings, 4xAA/16xAF, he says it gets a little choppy outdoors but it is actually running pretty good.

Overall I have been very happy with the game. The combat seems very well done and I like how the game doesnt coddle you like oblivion did.
That being said a couple things that I either havn't figured out/don't like:
No way to rest until healed when just out and about. Even in the middle of no where all you can do is wait, I think this is lame. Both Fallouts and Morrowind had rest functions w/o paying for a bed...you know there is such a thing as camping.
really long character creation sequences. Bestheda did this in oblivion too and it drives me nuts, I want 1 screen where I create my character then go. the way they did it story wise in Fallout 3 was neat, but that does not change my annoyance.
The people seem too happy. The voice acting just seems wrong. People arnt hardened from lots of death, or begging from money, or rude and blunt like they were in the fallouts. There are no beggers or prositutes around (at least not in the first town). No instead eveyone is very friendly, like they are living a nice easy life in the country side as per oblivion as opposed to struggling to survive in a post apocolyptic era
Other than those things the game seems very good so far though.
My computers a little slow for the game...but it still looks pretty decent.
I'm getting some strange graphical artifacts...could it be the drivers? My card is WC'ed and more than capable of running 800/1100...

Got my copy yesterday from Amazon.com. I ordered the exclusive Survival edition that comes with the Pipboy3000 replica clock, bobblehead and tin lunchbox. If anyone is considering spending the considerable extra dough for this version, don't bother. It might be worth $20 over the standard edition, but no more. The pipboy3000 is made of cheap, lightweight plastic, and does nothing other than tell time. The bobblehead is nothing special, and tin lunchbox is what you'd expect. I like the tin box best, but that's not saying much.
I am a fallout series fanboy, and I guess that's why I gambled on the survival edition. I feel like a sucker for paying $120 for some extra crap now. Hopefully I'll forget all about it once I get into the game. The few reviews I've seen up so far have me excited to play. I'm just about to escape Vault 101, but work is gonna keep me from being able to play much until tomorrow.

This game is AWESOME! i'll let you know my fps on a 4850 / 3.6GHz (rig in sig)
Great storyline, pretty unique. Really like the gameplay and the HUD, etc.. Even though its another FPS it does feel like a breath of fresh air. Oblivion can still be seen between the lines, but i dont think thats a bad thing. Overall i would give it 9/10 - but iv only been playing it for 20 minutes. Its great!
Well.. I am on 1280 x 1024 - i pressed the ultra button. Initially it detected all as "ultra high" - but with 800 x 600 - so i just upped it to 1280 x 1024 and made sure no AA - and i get between 40 - 60 f/ps outside. Mostly floats around 50ish. Not bad at all for ultra. Its not as hungry as i thought it would be. Granted, when some action comes in it might drop to the low 30's ... But hey, i do own a midrange PC.. Its no GTX280 paired with a quad, or even a 4870x2 with a 4GHz core2.
Better performance than i expected i must say.
Anti-Aliasing only reduces around 7 or 8 fps for me if i set it to 8x (full) - Bloom reduced it bigtime (41fps) compared to HDR (53fps)

Looks like it doesn't like those clocks. Try backing off a bit and see if you get those effects again in the same area. I've had those similar effects on my 8800GT when I pushed it too far. It wasn't due to the heat, it just wasn't stable at those speeds, seems to vary from game to game.
man i really really want this game. Going to try and come up with 70 bucks so i can but the collector's edition or whatever. Will see tho if i don't get the money in time and there all sold out guess i'll go for the regular.
COD WaW beta disappointed me (yes its beta but the gameplay in general was boring to me)
So i gotta find something to buy lol this just looks awesome my buddy is picking it up possibly today so i'll go play it a little bit.
Everything I've read has pointed this out to be an open-ended RPG like Morrowind (which = awesome). If I'm being misled and this is just a Fallout FPS, then I'm going to be pretty PO'd.

its one of those games that you cant put down. If you liked oblivion you will love this. Just make sure you got a decent graphics card, or dont play it, you will spoil it! Get a good card, then play it.
This is definately one of those games that keeps you playing.
I cant keep my eyes open here at work because I played all night haha.
There was one thing that annoyed me. I got caught stealing stuff so i ran outside the house, the game then autosaved so everytime i died i would just start outside the same building and get shot to hell! lol Lesson learned... SAVE SAVE SAVE SAVE!!

Yeah. Indeed. The only thing that annoyed me about oblivion. I hate the auto save on travel, rest etc but then when I turn it off and something happens I wish it was on.
I also wish I could name the saves something instead of the default location/playername/time

Not being able to name savegames is one of those lame console features that Oblivion picked up that wasn't present in Morrowind and the previous games. I'd hoped they'd rectify that this time around.

The situation of nuking the town is dependant on if you want good karma or bad, therefore do not do good karma missions if you plan on nuking cause it will just be a waste of time
I'm so glad I read the 'spoiler' tag at the very start above.
I haven't played a fallout game but i've heard they're awesome, I may hold off like many others. Mainly because I don't want to pay $100-$110 for a game that I may not like or might find something horrible about a month down the track.
Looks nice though :D

Got my GTX280 today along with a copy of F3. Really liking it. Runs very smooth at 19x12 with everything maxed, in fact it seems capped at 60 despite having v-sync turned off. I'm sure theres an ini tweak or something. Kinda weird the AA goes up to 15 instead of 16.. I've noticed a few graphical glitches nothing major. However the game quit to desktop when I tried to investigate a trash can. So far so good!

I like the vats system, I think it was a very good rendition of being able to arget specific body parts given that the game is first person....that being said, I remember crippling people doing more, and there are as many options as fallout had. I used to always shoot people in the eyes and that is no longer an option :(
does the console have a show fps command, or all you all used fraps/similar to get your fps?

Was a no brainer, I did the super duper mart quest and killed some lady, got a mini gun from some mutants and headed back to town. The guy I killed the lady for was sassy, the mini-gun ended that sass. Then it was me vs the whole town, it was a pretty long battle and in the end I killed everyone and looted the entire town (a lot of money to be made here). Then I headed off to tenpenny tower to watch it get nuked. I figured why nuke the town and leave all that good stuff to get blown away.
And the reward for this was far better than what my gf got award for disabling it, you should have seen the look on her face. (shes watching right now)
I just went through the intro and got to the birthday party.
EDIT#2: I walked around outside at settings above and it dips down to mid 20's sometimes but mostly 35-55 when I'm on a hill and I can see everything for miles. I'm still not convinced that fraps is telling the truth though. A dog attacked me and I could barely hit the thing because it was like trying to aim while submerged in syrup. I think I'll have to lose the AA\AF to make it bearable. I'm really wanting a gtx 290 or hd4870 1gb oc right about now. It's still very enjoyable but I don't like feeling restricted.
EDIT#3: Turning off the AA\AF helped a lot. I got in a fight with 3 large monsters at once (outside) and the game felt smooth enough. Maybe not online fps multi-player smooth, but enough for a single player game that isn't completely dependent on lightning reactions. And it looked just as good to me.
Oh yeah and I checked cpu usage. It hovers around 80% on both cores of my 4050mhz E3110.

Like I'm VERY EVIL it says, and all I do is steal, but thats what I thought the freaking steal perk was for, but it just gives you negative karma and i didn't whipe out any towns. Well I did blow up megacity actually but still hah.
Anyways, I'm confused.
So I have like HIGH barter and speach skills but during the conversation it says like a 29% and my barter and speach skillsa re both at 50, its such a waste of points, if thats all its goign to give me at 50!
IS it because I'm evil that its so low even with high skill level or is it like that for everyone?

Fantastic game!!! Just awesome.
Specs: I get a consistant 60fps most on high, except shadows, they're on medium, all sliders are maxed.
It does not go above 60FPS though..but niether did Oblivion...playing Oblivion sure did help me pick up on this games gameplay real quick....the start is right along the lines of Oblivion's, very entertaining. Love the classic walk down the tunnel before you're dumped into the awesome world.
Massive dialogue selections, fun/funny AI interaction both nuetral and enemy.
Some of the breeze sound effects are right out of Oblivion, also the way NPC navigate the world is like Oblivion...But I love how enemy NPCs use cover, hide or run to a more (atleast what they think) strategic spot.
JUST AWESOME......as soon as I get home I'm flexing this game 'till I hit da sack....heh WEEEEE!

Granted you could never level it up again and just save before you talk to someone and reload till they accept your speechcraft.
Also guys how do i get FPS on? I played all day yesterday never had one slowdown on my system but i didn't check FPS.
Also techno if you wanna become good get lots of purified water and find the bum sitting outside megaton. He wants water and you give some to him and he gives you a significant Karma boost towards good every time(it is very easy to get good karma and even hard to go to bad once you do)
Also did anyone get their house in megaton? The first thing i did was disarm the bomb in the town and the warden gave me a house with my own robot. I have a bobble head collector too.
After i disarmed the bomb though that guy that in the videos asks you to rig the bomb to blow it up gets ****ed and sent some assasins after me. They were a pain to kill but i did and read the "contract" on them for my termination. Apparently i disobeyed mr tenpenny and needed to be taught a lesson.
Just finished... some dirt or some town and i was fighting these fire ants. They are huge and so strong i wasted so much ammo. I figured out towards the end though if you chuck nades at 2 they will think it was each other that did it and sit there flaming each other till 1 dies. Saves A LOT of ammo.

I haven't even checked if there was a hated stat, but you should have seen all the karma loss I got from just sacking the town. I mean yeah nuking the town gets you some, but killing everyone and looting the entire town first, yeah im a bad man :attn: A ton, my gf did the same amount of missions as me on her game, she wentto Super duper Mart, killed that same lady, then she disarmed the bomb where as I nuked it. I had 1397 caps after I nuked the town and she had ..... 350, it pays to be evil. Also I will tell a little more down below.
Oh and to add to my oppression factor. Bethseda lies, you cannot kill everyone. I found 3 people you can't kill within the 1st 25min. I attempted to take the girls life at the begining, all you can do is beat her unconcious (LOL) same with another guy that is in vault 101 and the robot. And yes you did read hat right I tried beating the overseer's daughter to death.
Also did anyone get their house in megaton? The first thing i did was disarm the bomb in the town and the warden gave me a house with my own robot. I have a bobble head collector too.

hmmm a room in tenpenny tower :( makes me wanna be evil. but i like megaton it's so easy to sell stuff.
I wonder if there is any way to be in between.
Can you add stuff to your room in tenpenny? I know in megaton you can add a first aid counter, and a ton of other stuff. I assume the same with the tenpenny room?
I tried to find the guy to blow up the bomb but he disappears right after you disarm it. His house is still there in megaton but the lockpick is 100 i think.
Anyone know any way to be in tenpenny and megaton at the same time? I wanna scope out tenpenny but i can't really blow up megaton anymore unless i start a new game... and i don't wanna :(

If you took high speach you would have made 1500 caps just from nukeing the town. You make over 2000 cap's from doing the karma missions around town. You're going to be evil anyways after dropping that bomb.
I highly suggest bringing your speach and barter up if your playing on very hard as I am, you want to keep those prices low, and the caps flowing!

As far as I seen there are no difficulty settings, you might be playing on Xbox or PS3, I am playing on PC. Yeah the speech rewards would be nice, but meh, I don't want to influence people through my speech, I want to influence/oppress people with my might. And already have I got a few dialogue options that say [Strength].
Also I got a very high repair skill that is helping me keep caps going. Combining junk equipment to make good stuff seems really worth it. With like nothing in speech or barter I had 2x 10mm basic pistols that I sold for almost 200caps a pop cause they were mint.
And like I said earlier I am a murdering machine. The only people I have no tried to kill yet are in Tenpenny, and thats just because they gave me a room. I even killed the merchant by the super duper mart. And as soon as I get my chance to take that tower it will be mine, I would really just like to drop allistar and keep the vendors for my junk, but they might be forever running around in fear if I do that. Either way we will see ^.^
There are difficulty settings on the pc version.
It was very beautiful! You can buy stuff for your luxury apartment at the tower btw.
Once you bomb the town you can still go to the megaton ruins and wait around for a few hours, traders still pass by and that's where I fix my weapons 90% of the time simply because I dont really know where else to fix them. I buy my ammo in tenpenny tower when the stuff I want is available (.308 / .44 cal).
Tonight I am restarting to fix my character up a little i didn't think things through when choseing stats etc... I have a better picture of what I am aiming for now.
As far as I seen there are no difficulty settings
Much like hardin said, check the option's menu there should be a game option and a somewhere in there there is a difficulty selection thing. Hehehe turn it to Very Hard and see if it changes anything. I can't comment because I wanted the game to be challenging right from the beging rather then to play on normal then go up. Heck if there was a setting higher then very hard called "impossible" I probably would have set it to that.
Everything is possible it just requires a little more thinking and a little less gunning because if you get caught in the wrong situation it doesnt take much to add you to the scenary. (I have 260HP @ Level 8)
SPOILER!
if you haven't found it already, you can go to scrapyard and find dogmeat. The dog that "died" in fallout 1 and that you can find in fallout 2 he will growl when there are enemies near by which is great if your preception sucks. Only problem is you have to be a little more carefull when useing burts outside of v.a.t.s or shooting explosives. Dogmeat can be given stimpacks to keep is health up and you can command him to seach for ammo, guns, caps etc... hidden around the area.
Other info
You may want to drop by the small store near the entrance of the metro where the gouls are if you bombed ten penny tower, there should be "lucky sunglasses" or something like that which give you +1 luck stat, I found that for snipers, that hate with the +1perception hat is pretty trendy and great for blowing peoples heads off / crit shots.
If you where attacked by the merc's because you have a wopping 1000 cap's bounty on your head then it gets even better and you can now use a trendy outfit (trench coat sort of clothing for +skill to small guns!

Of course no way to tell cause usually its quest related when you talk to them... it's not really setup like oblivion at all.
Just don't put too much thought into speechcraft. It was like manually trying to max bartering in oblivion... so not worth the time.

(shes watching right now) Thats just awesome your girl playing and enjoying fallout 3:)

Just to give an update, I really can't tell the difference between high and ultra high. Can any else tell the difference?
The difference doesn't appear too different but its totally there. You're also running a 20" screen. On my 24, larger textures are worth using.

Ugh i love combat shotgun. But on a terrible note.
I was starting a new game just to see what it's like to kill everyone in megaton(damn that mercenary in there is tough). Well i saved over my good guy game (i was 16 hours in maybe?).
It's good and bad. Bad cause i wasted all that time but good cause i wasted some skill points here and there. That and i wasted a perk on that exp perk... cause honestly leveling up faster is not an issue... i was really thinking about it all wrong.
I am just going to spend the day now figuring out what i want to do.
I am trying to decide if i should go for lockpicking or science. and whether to go small arms/unarmed/melee . ... or perhaps... energy and unarmed?
I dunno i have to decide. I want small arms because of people always shooting you from far and melee would be pointless. but yet melee/unarmed is so fun.
I dunno i got some thinking to do. I can rip through the beginning of the game pretty fast now. I know where to get ammo+armor+ bobbles and stuff.
I restarted my game yesterday and am actually doing all the quests in megaton simply to get what they give me though my hidden agenda is to blow it up anyways. Some might think its a waste of time though you should REALLY do Moria's Quests because she does give you some interesting things and often they are really easy to achieve e.g. drop bellow 50% hp and optional get crippled so all you need to do is toss a frag and stay around it, you can do it inside town and it pretty much instantly completes that quest.
Some of the other things you get is a mutation, plans on how to build stuff and the mole rat repelent strick which will 2 shot any mole rat around on very had making it an Ideal bullet savor.
I also noticed that Jerico can be hired, he's an evil merc and so you need to get him to remeber his past a little (up to you to find out how) though if you dig around you find some nasty stuff about megaton... everyon's keeping secrets. If you blow up the town you lose the option to take jerico as a merc and possibly lose the option of having a robot body gaurd (merc).
It really made me realize that it might be good to put some things off for a little while before killing everything.
in other news...
I found "Fat Man"

It's somewhere around there, wouldn't be fun if I told exactly where so scavange a little ;)

No hogging the intercom!
On an other note I must admit that I like the freedom that the game gives simply because other fallout games where a little restricting when it came to choseing your weapons at the begining. I recall if you put points in heavy weapons and started the game you would really suffer because they might not be accessible for some time. Because you can roam around as much as you'd like in fallout 3 it allows you to get some very powerfull guns right from the start for pretty much ANY type of fighting you are going to do. Though you may need to run by a lot of people and face a few dangerous situations to get to them :D

You have to keep doing the main story. Eventually you will go to the main steel headquarters. You know those people that helped you save GNR - its their headquarters. Then you talk to the leader - he says you can learn the power armor training - and there you go. You have to do the story. You cant find it cos they wont let you in.

im using a evga 9800gtx+ o/ced to 800/2000
still getting laggy frame once every 1-1.5 second
tried every possible low settings but still doing that
any way to check whats wrong with my card?(hardware-wise or software-wise)
btw the physx is still not detecting the card....
I haven't found that confusing gun yet... I've been going around and scavenging the wastes helping most people and killing the occasional competition (other scavangers). I found a lot of neat area's though a lot of them I have only scouted out because the enemy's inside require to much ammo to kill... sad to say but useing over 100 bullets on one mob is down right silly though maybe I just need to find some other way to get them down (Mirelurks & Nuka Mirelurks).
Anyone find any other henchmen? So far I found:
- Jerico
- Dogmeat
and have yet to figure out if fixing the robo plant will get me an other. Nice power armor :D
Story wise I am not even at the GNR station yet. I didn't want to pay anyone to find it so I went around hacking terminals and talking my way though things.

I found a pretty neat trick. If you go to the scrapyard, get to the fence exit with like a metal shack and a billboard and save there. Then head towards the broken bridge to the right of the exit and you'll get a random encounter. Keep reloading for random encounters. I encountered like some brotherhood guys, some "hunters", then some big ass monster, a friendly super mutant (couldnt make him my teammate =/).

Anyone else tired of walking? I want to fix a motorcycle or something , lol. Anyway finished my first play through , VERY EVIL :D
Megaton was destroyed within 10 minutes of me entering the city. LoL. And not one thing I encountered got to live very long.
Game all in all was ok, I will prolly give it a play again as good, and do all the quests now. The story was sadly lacking for me ( as evil ). Maybe it will be better when I am good.
I liked Bioshock more last year. :sn:
I heard there are 4 different endings. :D

That's true, like I said in an earlier post you really have to look at it in all aspects before doing something or the game will be short. I could kill anyone I wanted though after spending some time trying to get diffrent things and hacking, finding information about people more dialog options open up and more things become available.
It adds more interesting things to the game, some items which you might not get otherwise... I know that doing quest's makes it hard to be evil, though its still possible. So far I have helped everyone out in most area's of course afterwards if they cant pay up for my help then... well that's there problem.
There cloth's pay for the price of the bullet I'm about to put in them.

Try playing through on evil. If you nuke the town off the bat it really cuts a lot out of the game. Then you will look at it a bit differently.

I also purchased Fallout 3 the other day. I never really got into Oblivion, so I didnt really know what to expect. I haven't been disappointed yet. I'm kinda just taking my time through it. I just got done doing the minefield quest. Its pretty awesome, but
Is there a better way to make caps? Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm finding it really hard to even make 100 caps by selling crap.
thanks!

I really wish my laptop could run Fallout 3 :(
The woes of not being able to upgrade parts.
In any case, think I could handle it with some sort of mod that allows it to run on older systems ?
1.67 ghz pentium m
1 gig ram
32 mb vram
I remember they came out with a mod that would run oblivion on setups like mine and unfortunately I cannot upgrade to better parts in any foreseeable future. Oh nuts :(

So last night I disarmed the bomb in Megaton, and they gave me my own house there. It was pretty cool, and I like having a place to store all my stuff that I don't want to carry around. I just started not to long ago 'cause I was waiting on the special edition version. Late start, but still fun.

It was a little disturbing when I came across that town. It's even more disturbing that the children in Littlelamplight will give you fungus for the strange meat. If only they knew what they were receiving.

In the Fallout 2 there was a place that dealt in Long Pork. You really have to poke around in Fallout to get to all the areas. The deeper you poke around, the stranger, darker the world becomes.
I just have to write more!~
So far so good on my last game restart, by the time I was done all the quests in megaton I was standing at about 4000 caps. Though it took some time (a lot of time) to complete the missions for morina (do ALL her optional stuff for better rewards!) it was worth it. I also realized that wandering around the wasteland and doing some quests will cross and meet up with the story line often skipping parts of it (example I didnt need to speak to people in megaton to know where my dad was at).
Anyways.
After getting all the quests done in magaton it was time to "purify it". I started by hireing jerico (If you are evil, you can talk him into looking back at his past and getting him to join you for 1000 caps, he has a chiness assult rifle with infinate ammo, if you are neutral you can pay tinker joe around the robot factory for a sergent r3 or what ever! but you NEED to stay good, neutral, evil to keep your merc depending on who he is and trust me playing with a merc ROCKS! they carry your gear, they do good damage and distract the enemy, if you can get them at the start you can put a lot more focus on your "socail skills")
so I hired jerico and killed the town then wiped it clean with the nuke!
Great stuff!
After that I was about at 3500~ caps when I got my reward. I have about 1000+ ammo for all my guns. So my tip to those that cant seem to make caps... Speach skill at 40+ and try your best to get it to successed when taking jobs if your evil. Ten penny tower quest to kill the ghouls gave me 700 caps (initially 500 + 200 for speech) secound thing is to repare items and guns, a well repaired gun will give you 100 - 200 caps per gun. Don't get the merchants to repaire your gear, just scavage and repair it yourself.
If you have a merc you can afford to put a lot more in those repaire / lockpick / speech / barter / science.
If there is a computer that unlocks a safe, hack the comp then lockpick the safe if you have the skill you will get double exp. thats what I've been doing... anyways small tips wont say much more...
p.s.
Jerico (evil merc) can wear power armor at the begining of the game without any training, hint hint that is some major butt kicking.

Great game, almost makes me forget I wasted $50 on FC2. I'm about 1/2 way through my first run through and I can easily say this is a game that I can see myself playing over atleast 1-2 more times. Been a looong time since I've said that about a game.
I just finished beating the game on my first run.
to tell the truth, I am sort of sad simply because I did not use the 15 mini nukes that I had gathered nore did I finish useing the 1000+ of just about every ammo and finished with a laughable 5000~ caps.
Unfortunatly I let the game do all its auto saving / quick saving and saved it at the end where I couldn't turn back :(
there are more then 4 endings they the way. I have seen 4 so far but I can already see how there are so many more just like fallout 1 / 2 / tactics.

Sadly there's only about 8 different permutations. Don't go here if you don't want to see spoilers. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_3_endings
It's not like the old games where it tells you what happened to every town. I thought the ending was disappointing.

I finished on lvl 11 and hmm... something is missing like it should be at least 2x longer ...
I took evil way , eden side and had save before so I saw 2 endings.
Good way seems longer with disarming bomb in Megaton. My brother is playing as good character and he has maybe 1/4 game time more in main storyline ( or just find more quests ). The same getting more karma blocks some quests and can't take henchmen.
I really like F3 so I think I will run a bit more as new char or something ;)
I agree with what was said, I finish at level 12. Won't ruin anything for anyone.
I found two three henchmens so far.
dogmeat - dog in scrapyard (free) but i dont know the karama required.
Sergent R3 - robot next to the roboco factory (1000 caps) Neutral Karama, chances are he uses a plasma rifle and flamethrower for melee (I fought that same kind of robot twice).
Jerico - Evil human henchemen, requires evil status (1000 caps) Infinate ammo with chiness assult rifle, can wear power armor and use any melee weapon, good with both ranged and melee. Auto heals after every fight!
Edit. I managed to pull a saved game before the ending and did some more exploring and brought my karma up from very evil to neutral simply to test out sergent R3, he is funny and thats the least I could say though he simply isn't as effecient as jerico then again you can't upgrade the robot unlike a human npc who can wear power armor or any type of strongest armor you can give him. A shame that's for sure...

Little bit of a bump.. I just wanted to reverse the sort of negative I had earlier....
As I said previously. I would of bought what I needed to play the game. I sort of .. well did.
New HD TV... Since the old one was not 1080p
New surround setup.. The old one was just stereo..
New Xbox 360.. Well my old PS2 was seemingly weak. An Elite 120 gig.
Since this is a Fallout 3 thread. It is the only game I have for the machine.
$4200 to play one game... I just could not resist my all time favorite game..

Just make sure you go off the main quest for a while every now and again or you will finish it in like a week.
When you start going into other vaults - your somewhere near the end - well not quite because its a huge game if you play it right - just dont stay on the storyline all the time. Oh, and somewhere on the map is a crashed alien ship with some goodies :D and alot of other things that are cool.
