View Full Version : xp1600 idle at 59 degress
just installed a xp1600 and my idle temp is 59 degrees. I'm using a wbk heatsink with a sunon 30cfm 80mm fan(wanted low noise) and arctic silver paste. system temp is 32 deg. I'm think of replacing the fan with a adda 50cfm fan and also getting a slot cooler that sucks air out the case. the slot fan would be right above the agp card so it'll be fairly close to the cpu/heatsink. this way it'll suck the hot air comming from the heatsink.
If the bottom edge of the heat sink is kinda hot , does this mean I don't have a powerful enough cpu fan? I'm fairly confident that I installed the heatsink correctly. I going to get the new fans before I reinstall the heatsink. anybody have any other suggestions? bthanks

Did you apply the AS2 properly, very thin coat? A 30cfm fan will just not get the job done but those temps are way high.
If you have no air flow within the case then that can be a problem.
Your heatsink fan maybe a problem since it isn't up to par.
Your mounting wasn't correcting and maybe a problem.
Reply and update us on that.

'Fraid that the 30cfm 80mm fan is inadequate. A 30cfm 60mm fan will work much better.
Strange, but true: To equal the cooling effectiveness of a 60mm Delta 38cfm fan, a 68cfm 80mm fan is necessary--and that's using a 60mm to 80mm fan adapter.
Using a 30cfm 80mm in your case is the same as using a 15cfm 60mm fan. Address this improper cooling before you burn your CPU.
make sure the wbk is on that bad boy correctly! check it with a flashlight.
I guess it all the thing above. but I'll have to wait till tomorrow to get the new fans. I actuall put two thin layer of silver paste. one layer on the heat sink too. I haven't use the compuer yet so I'm still safe. I'll update after I get the stuff. So a 60mm 38 cfm delta fan? thanks i already have a case fan, but might up that to a adda 50cfm case fan. Oh boy this is going to be one noisy system.

You'll have to put up with some noise but your going to need a high performance Delta to keep up with the WBK.
You'll need case fans and you should do a neat job on the think layer.
Ok here an update. 43 degrees idel and 50 @ load. I pick up a 60mm 7000 rpm fan, slot cooler and have one panel open. with close case it idles at 49. This recent temp should be ok right? my temps might go down 1 or 2 degree with the artice silver. Man I need a new case. The one I want is too rich for me right now. but saving up for it. thanks everybody.
