Looks like massive overkill IMO. If you're gonna release a straight up 2GB card, they should have opted for a HD 4870

Wow, 2gb. I wonder if other brands will pick this up or if it'll remain a Powercolor exclusive?

I'm curious, but not enough so to buy one. Pretty cool though :)

I believe it is limited by it's bandwidth instead of the capacity. Or, in shader intensive games, by the GPU core.

Clearly they're just playing on people's thoughts that bigger numbers are always better. I didn't even think a 4850 could effectively use one full gig of memory, much less two.

I'll be doing a 512mb-1gb comparison over the next few days. I've seen results, but will be more satisfied after doing my own testing.

I agree with the OP though, that they should have done this on the 4870 :-/

if you buy this, i am sure you bought an FX5200 512mb card as well.

as said, they are playing on people think the more ram the better!

I'll be looking forward to that :bday:

i've read a review of this card, and it performs worse than a 512MB and 1GB card.
to be able to get the 2GB ram stable, they have to reduce the clock speed it runs at, but at the same time, it can't fully optimise the 2GB, so you have slower-running ram which doesn't even come to use. you also can't overclock the ram as high as 512MB and 1GB versions.

like ghost_recon88 said, major OVERKILL lol

Doesn't look like much either. It's missing alot of modules for the voltages, like it's been neutered

4850 1Gig, yes... 2Gig on anything overkill

Could care less even if its a 4870X2, 2Gig per Core is way beyond overkill currently even at extreme res.

I agree, 4GB total on a HD4870x2 would be insane overkill. But for those paranoid people, it would be nice for them to know they're not gonna run out of a frame buffer anytime soon :D
