For some stupid reason it still comes with Secure Rom.
You also are limited to 5 installs of the game like of you got it on disk.
So make sure you uninstall it before you do a reformat or something like that so it works in the future.

well i dont have the dvd version anymore and any trace of the dvd version would be gone since i have formatted and reinstalled windows twice since then, i just recently bought the steam version of bioshock and it just doesnt want to work i cant even get past the level "Welcome to Rapture"

Secure Rom doesnt care if it was installed on your system or not.
It requires an internet connection to activate if you will, and you only have 5 total unless you do an uninstall before the reformat.

As for your stem version, that is very odd. I would make sure the game is upto date and see if you can defrag it in steam

2K Games removed the install limits a few months ago, though you still need to activate the game online before playing. This is for the DVD-ROM version, not to sure about the Steam version.

the game installed and will run fine for about 4-5 minutes and then crash, now when i had the dvd version it worked well no problems, but for some reason it doesnt want to go any further, i have tryed turning down all the settings etc but nothing seems to work, like i said i can play for 4-5 minutes sometimes even less and it will crash

That is strange. The only thing I could think of is that the DVD version you played was unpatched (version 1.0) while the Steam version is automatically patched to version 1.1. The patch could have broken something with your specific setup, although that seems unlikely.

Have you tried either re-installing the Steam version (delete local content and redownload) or at least verifying the integrity of the game files (right click on the game and hit Properties > Local Files tab)?

my buddy had an issue running it. It would crash after the first video, ended up being vid card drivers. Works great on my system, I don't recall having to activate it online or anything like that.

i havent tryed reinstalling yet, i have tryed to verify and it was fine didnt give me any errors, when i had the dvd version first thing i did before playing it was to patch it, i never play a game until its patched best to be safe than sorry :), also when you download the steam version it also downloads and installs the patch.

all my drivers are up to date, i have to use my onboard sound though cause there is no 64bit xp drivers for my sound card mostly cause its a cheapo card, im thinking of backing up my files and reinstalling windows from my recovery cd's
