View Full Version : How much kink is acceptible

I am in the stages of setting up my loop, cutting tubing. The tubing from the cpu to the NB is the piece I am concerned about as the distance is not much. Do you just put enough tubing to "not kink" at all or is a slight bend all right? I am guessing no kink at all. Or is there a way to keep a shorter piece from kinking?

none.
try using a couple zipties to re enforce the tubing at various stages of the bend but dont torque them down to much

+1 Never allow a kink in the loop. As stated, Zip ties are your friends in this case. I have one on my CPU/NB tubing.

Ziptie pic? I think I know what you are meaning but want to be sure.

in essence you are making a truss out of the zip ties to create a semi-monocoque instead of a full coque

And in Joe Layman terms? :)

It don't bend no more.

LOL, that's what she said.

But yea, any kind of kink will hurt cooling and could shortain the life of the pump

LOL!

The zip ties kind of act to force the tubing back to a round shape in the portion where it starts to kink. As was stated earlier, there's kind of a fine line between squeezing the tubing back to round and pinching tubing off, so be carefull. You could also go for some anti kink coils, but I think they look silly and zip ties are cheaper.

here is a pic of what is meant.

here's mine. I'm using 7/16 masterkleer and it has nice bend characteristics.

Yea, it doesn't look like you have much kink there. Somewhat the same as my CPU/NB combo in the 900.

This is perfectly acceptable.

That's an antec spot cool. For my Mosfets and Chokes.

I now have the loop put together and going to let it run overnight for leak testing. I put it together on the m/b and I may not have any problem but I have a couple of those plastic clamps in case I do. I have to say that the HSPC Res-Top made filling the loop a breeze. After 15 minutes or so even almost all the bubbles were gone and the thing is sitting there silently pumping away. I was tempted after 30 minutes to put it back on the Rampage but talked my self out of it. I can't wait to see what it does for my NB temps.

I had problems with the 7/16 Tygon R3400 kinking on one of my loops going from the cpu to nb block and instead of using zip ties I ordered some of this anti-kink coil stuff (http://www.jab-tech.com/PrimoChill-Anti-Kink-Coils-1-2-Black-pr-4000.html) to use instead. You just wrap it around the tubing that is having the problem with kinking and it supports the tubing without impeding flow and it looks much better than zip ties. :)

BTW, that particular run of the loop didn't start kinking until a month or 2 after getting the loop up and running, so keep an eye on it in your system.

True, Good advice.
