View Full Version : Fallout 3 Tips/Tricks/Questions thread (if you guys add to it)*spoilers* maybe inside

Hi guys!
Well I wanted to start like an official thread just to talk about the game, not so much the bugs about the game. But more along the lines of strats you found to work well, or cool things you found out in the game going the evil route or the good route.
There was some good ones in the original Fallout 3 thread but there were also bug questions and crash questions in the mix.
So to start it off.
This is how I went:
Blew up Megatron town or whatever.
Got a sweet Room in Penny tower.
Now heres the cool thing, you can buy stuff for your house. Like a lab where you can build guns, a medical lab where you can heal your addictions or messed up limbs (So basically you have your own medical department there constantly), you can buy a juke box and nuka cola machine. You can also buy THEMES for your room, very cool.
Also a guy down on the first floor sells good weapons, missle laucnhers, good assult riffles etc.
My Stats are VERY EVIL. From stealing and blowing up a town. But now that I'm already this evil, I might just kill a lot of people and take their stuff.
Also if you went good, you can go into Penny Tower, and KILL EVERYONE IN there. You actually get good karma for killing Mr. Penny and you can steal his sweet sniper rifle, problem is finding more ammo for it.
I didn't kill everyone in Penny Tower though, I read it on another website. I don't want to ruin my room/bonsues of Penny tower by killing that guy for a sniper rifle.
But there is also another option. You can go to the metro by penny tower and find 2 gouls, they want you to help them break into penny tower. You have to steal a key and then hack into a computer system. Its NOT WORTH IT. You get like a good karma nd like 320xp but those gouls KILL everyone and you no longer have a room or anything.
So far my 50 points in Barter and Speach hasn't helped me that much but from what i heard from another poster, I guess its who I'm talking too.
Right now I'm at the radio tower where you meet the brother hood of steal, you'll remember these guys from Fallout 1 and 2.
I have a question for the people who already made it that far: If you have good karma points, do you get to join their gang? I tried and she said No. I didnt even have a chance to try to persuade her.

I should be getting it this weekend, so i'll keep you informed!

I have both a good and evil toon. Both of them were told they were not hiring so I dont think you can.
technoViking

Very cool thanks jstustman!
Also I had another question. I have my small gun skills up to about 40, if I keep increasing these skills, does it just make the gun more accurate? or does it also increase the damage?
Because I saw one guy, he said he had like small guns maxed out and I saw videos of him 1 shotting Super mutants with a rifle. Rifles are only like 29 damage, so that confused me.
I blew up the town and made Ten Penny Tower my home, till I saw the old man with the Combat Shotgun...i shut is door...made sure he went down in 1 hit, man this guy was loaded. His safe even has a Mini Nuke.
technoViking
10-30-08, 06:51 PM
zig you mean you killed the main guy at Ten Penny? If you kill him do you still get to live there or no?
jayfella
10-30-08, 06:54 PM
I did good things all the time, no evil things at all, and i couldnt join them either.
The small guns attributes make them more powerful and more accurate, but you can also get a perk that makes you more accurate as well... Maybe he had both. I only go for small guns cos i prefer hand-guns - it saves on ammo just shooting one at a time. That of the combat shotgun. That thing is super powerful.
You shouldnt go for the head if they have head-armor on (obvious) - and i did notice some baddies get hurt more if you shoot them in different places. Like scorpions get hurt a lot if you shoot them in the tail, etc...
I approached the dude in the saloon - and he asked me to blow up that nuke, and i said no, told the sheriff/mayor and he went with me to arrest him - the dude killed the sheriff/mayor so i killed him (the guy who wants to blow up megaton) and i got good karma. He told me people would come after me before i shot him in the head with a combat shotgun.
I have been to the radio tower, repaired the radio, etc.. Been to save Lucy's bro - that part gets good - you should do that mission - good stuff happens. And thats about it...
I want to know how to train in power armour.. If anyone knows....
SPOILER!!! - If you are starting out - go to the ammo shop in megaton and do the super duper mall mission (or whatever its called) - there is tons of 10mm ammo /medical supplies there to get you going.
technoViking
10-30-08, 07:06 PM
cool thanks for the info.
I just randomly found the superduper mart and killed everyone in it, didn't reralize there as a mission hah
zig you mean you killed the main guy at Ten Penny? If you kill him do you still get to live there or no?
Oh no, not Mr. Tenpenny, some other old guy who lives in the middle of the building. He is the only one with a safe. At least I think so

I'm so mad, I went all the way to the Museum and i ran of out stim packs! so I have no way to get health!
Am I going to have to travel all the way back to like a salesman to buy stim packs? Isn't there any one who has anything to sell at the radio station?

Ya, just look at the world map, click and go, just like Fast Travel.

When you unlock places you can fast travel between them. So you have to travel to a place at least once.
Edit: Damn you ziggo
for lock picking, hacking etc good ol trial and errors works, just save the game before trying and load again if it doesn't work out
in megatron go to bar and talk to leo (i think so that's his name) he is the one with drug addiction, go inside and hack his computer and you can open the safe and get 300 caps
technoViking
10-31-08, 01:24 AM
yah for hacking, what i found what works best is just stop before your trys are up. Randomly guessing is the fastest way I found to hack a system hah.
I finally made it! Now i'm in rivet city, the city that is a big boat! I never thought I would make it. Whatever you do STOCK UP ON STIM PACKS.
Anyone know how you can get a pet dog to help you in battle? In the videos of fallout 3, you always see a dog besides the guy. I also heard you can get like NPC's to come with you and carry your stuff.
Also i heard to get trained in the power armor, once u do the job for that radio guy, if you talk to one fo the brothers of steal, he says you can talk to some guy by the lab to get trained. But I have no idea where the lab was at in the building.
jayfella
10-31-08, 05:23 AM
i heard if you go to the scrapyard you get your dog. You can give him stimpacks n stuff to keep him alive.
Tainted Misery
11-01-08, 11:02 AM
Yeah. If you go to the scrapyard, which is located north-north west of the RobCo factory / west of Vault 101; you can get a dog. He'll help you fight a bunch of raiders, so don't kill him when he's attacking the raiders with you. Because I almost had mistaken him for one of the raiders dogs at first.
I went there and to the RobCo Factory, and at the RobCo factory, there's a salesman that sells robots. I was kind of reluctant to buy one at first, because it was 1,000 caps, but after I did, I was glad I did. Because the Robot is probably the biggest help I could ask for. It's equipped with several weapons like a flame-thrower and some kind of laser, and it also has a storage unit. You can also interact with the robot and choose the distance, whether you want him to be right next to you or way back where it can flank the enemies.
The dog is a big help, too. The dog has a dumb name (Dog Meat) but the dog will look for supplies for you if you tell him to. And you can praise or scold the dog upon any action. Like, dog meat protected me from radroaches and raiders and I praised him, but when he attacked a super mutant, I scolded him. Now he attack radroaches and raiders and creatures like that but is more reluctant to attack Super Mutants.
And, to all of the people that blew up Megaton, that was kind of a bad move on your part. Because you'll end up making more money doing quests for the people in the town and by helping one woman out, you'll get radiation poisoning but when she heals you, you get an upgrade. Now my players crippled limbs slowly regenerate.
And I highly advise people to create their character with high intelligence and charisma, along with Scientific, Explosive and Repair skill. Because without it, you can't get the robots in the RobCo factory, which there's a mission from the woman inside Megaton that I have to go out there and reactivate them, but if you have 50 scientific skill, you can hack them and get them on your side. But since my player only had 50 scientific skill, and right before I activated all the robots, I accidentally drank some vodka and I wasn't able to control the robots. So, the robot that I bought from the trader had to help me fight a bunch of robots off. And that was very difficult. Even more difficult than fighting super mutants with miniguns. Plus, the skills that I mentioned above apply to many other situations.
This game is great, I love it. And I love how you can do whatever you want. I'm nice to the people inside Megaton, but outside I trade with traders and then I kill them and take their stuff and sell them to the people of Megaton. So if I were you, I wouldn't blow up Megaton. Because there's so many sidequests in there that are really beneficial.

Yeah. If you go to the scrapyard, which is located south of Minefield and directly north of Super Duper Mart, you can get a dog. I accidentally gave the wrong location for the Scrapyard. I was thinking of Evergreen Mills when I posted this. I fixed it in the quote above.

I saved near the billboard exit of the scrapyard and kept reloading because a random encounter kept spawning by the bridge lol. I met some cool stuff but decided to settle on killing a guy with a sniper rifle chasing after a slave.
I'm very good right now as well. Just got to Tenpenny tower but I have most of the bottom right quadrant of the map explored. Almost lvl 9 too.
I was at RobCo factory and could not find a salesman though. Where was he?
SPOILER
When you go with the sheriff to arrest Mr Burke, he kills the sheriff so I reloaded the game and killed burke before he killed the sheriff lol. I regret doing that now because the Sheriff doesnt give you any more quests or anything, and I could have taken his sweet duster.

Im on level 13 or 14 - something like that. There is a perk that lets you level up straight away - cant remember what its called. I went to jericho and tried to make him my compadre but he said no - and my karma told me my karma is too high to let him join ? Anyhow.
If you ask me -getting repairs to 100 as fast as you can is the best bet so you can repair your weapons to the fullest - that way you can killl people easier and not use so many bullets. I would also recommend using the perk that ups your stats whenever you read a book.
I have found 4 bobbles (those tiny statue things that up your stats) - How many have you lot found? I also have a house in megaton. I had to disarm the bomb to get it - and the sheriff's son gave it to me. (requires 25 explosives skill)

lol. There's no need to get a little hostile over it.
And at my point in the game, I only know of one robot factory, and that's called RobCo. And that one is in the southwest part of the map, and I don't think I've discovered anything near it that has "commons" in the name. So, if there's more than one Robot Factory, then my bad. I guess there's more than one... I don't know. I feel like an idiot now, lol.

Did you have to do a quest to buy the robot or just the sales guy was out there?

I've only played it for a full day so far and just got done with the ant mission, and now I'm at Rivet City. :/ Don't ask, I strayed really far from the story bc my only experience with open ended rpgs is oblivion. But this game really requires either tons of patience to explore or a strat guide. I hate doing all this walking and then having event occur only at specific times of the day, even with the wait function and the fast travel.
Currently, I'm stuck on the quest of finding the little kid from grayditch a home, and finding the "Family"...... Guys have any advice. From reading the top threads, looks like my best bet right now is to find a dog, a robot, and level up scientific and explosives. I prob won't blow up megaton + I've been giving bums my pure water....

Okay I avoided the spoilers with good reason. Please don't spoil anything for me when I ask these questions:
1) How the hell do you level up in this game? I hit Megaton town, told Morieta to stick it up his rear when he told me to pay him to find out where my dad is.
2) I got the quest from Lucy West but when I go into the lower area of the subway station, there's a Mire Lurker and he whoops the crap out of me. He even followed me out of the cave and killed one of the zombie guys! lol I can kill a Mire Lurker, but it takes too many stim paks and ammo.
Any tips on what I should do to progress without giving too much away? I'm only level 2 and it seems like monsters give like 1 xp each.

If you venture out of Megaton, tune your Pipboy3000 to Galaxy Radio. Listen the DJ 3 Dog while you are exploring and he will give you a hint on where to next go hunting for your dad. Also ask around in Moriaty's bar about the radio station and it's location might just be revealed on Pipboy's World map.
As for leveling up early on, get your repair skill up to 30 and explosives skill up 20 and then fix the leaky pipes in Megaton and disarm the bomb (after agreeing to Burke that you will blow up the town). Rat out Burke to the sheriff and follow him to capture Burke. After that ordeal you should have a couple good weapons, a new apartment and enough XP to get you to lvl 3 or 4. A high lockpick skill is helpful early on in the game because it gives you access to many locked stashes that you otherwise couldn't get to.
If anyone is interested, I can point you to a rather easy to obtain laser rifle very close to Megaton, You have to kill a few feral ghouls to get it but they go down easy. It's just to the Southwest of Geryditch and Marigold station.

*SPOILERRRRRR*
GUYS this is so sweet.
Anyways here is my guys stats:
100 small guns
100 pick locking
Perks:
Body Mess (adds 5% to all damange)
Sharp Shooter( Greatr increases accuratey to head shots)
Commando (increase damange done by rifle (2 handed weapons))
Anywho, my guy freaking destroys people. With a rifle, I can basically treat it like a sniper rifle. This thing rocks people, and its only 21 damage hunting rifle.
Also once you find your dad, he will tell you he wants to go back to Rivet City which is a pretty far hiike, but trust me, go with him. Any mob you encounter they will go straight after your dad who can't die, he just falls down for alittle bit if you really let him get whipped up on. But what I do is just get like 5 feet from the mob and head shot them with a shotty and goondight. You level up super fast.
Also before you find your dad you go into this virtual world. It is the most amazing experience ever, wait till you do it!
Also one last thing, ANYONE WHO IS EVIL. (I am super super super evil because I love to steal (hence the 100% lock picking)). You can't get a robot as a partner. I found the guy at the Roboco and you have to hurry up and save him before the death claw kills him, which is very hard because the death claw can hit him about 3 times and he's done. They also start fightinb efore you even close enough to attack the death claw, unless you have a sniper rifle but even then you only have enough AP to attack once. Then you have to free shoot it and hope to hit the death claw and not the guy.
But once I saved him, I say I want to buy a robot, he's like, sorry the robot doesn't like you. Then I got ****ed and killed him and all his robots.
EDIT:
AHH THIS IS HORRIABLE!! being evil does not pay off in the end. OKay if you have good karama, a friggin' brother of steal will actuallly join your group and help you. SHe looks pretty loaded. I wish I could find some evil people to team up with me but the only guy I ever saw that would join me was in the town of megatown but at the time I was 2 good, and I ended up blowing up that town hah.
So yah, future note, do not be evil. So far the 2 big things that have screwed me have been, not being able to get a killer robot and now this brother of steal chick. But so far really I havn't had any need for another person, I pretty much 1 shot or 2 shot everyone person I've came across so far.
I also got trained in power armor, but honestly I don't see the advantage of it, for me anyways. I use long range guns, and power armor gives you negative perception, it give you +2 strength though, but still I don't think its worth it, and its the armor is super heavy.

I accepted the evil dude's mission and disarmed the bomb anyway. I finishing a bunch of other quests before I go Rambo on Ten-Penny.

I decided to kill the dude that asked me to blow up megaton. He killed the sherriff, so i killed him. Then i found tenpenny tower and went in - they let me in, so i went straight up to tenpenny and blew his head off with a combat shotgun. Then went about killing all of the guards (which doesnt affect your karma at all - or killing tenpenny) - Then i let the ghouls in and raided the whole place :D sneeky! You get loads of caps n stuff - loads of safes and cash registers if you have the lockpicking ability!
Where can you go to get a lot of Bobby pins? Because lockpicking is useful if you have them, but I rarely have more than 1 or 2.

technoViking
11-02-08, 09:09 PM
I think you can have 1 dog and then another guy to help.
But you can't keep adding people.
if you want to add a new person, you have to tell the other guy, he's fired.
There is a cheat to allow you to keep adding people to yoru group but its a strict cheat code, not somthing built into the game.
They are pretty smart. Sometimes it shows I don't get XP for kills though, like if they do more damange than me, I don't know if you get XP for it. Unless its a bug.
The greatest part is they have ulimited ammo but if they break their gun you have to give them the same gun usually it depends. Like my guy will only use a combat shotgun, even though I gave him bertter weapons like a flame thrower or missle launcher.
UnrealAlex
11-02-08, 09:14 PM
Ive been exploring too much with my very good char. I did some stuff I regret doing (like convincing the Tenpenny tower residents to let the ghouls live there, which turns out to be the least rewarding decision).
I'm gonna create a stealthy, high crit, neutral assasin with high speech who has a softness for kids and a dislike for rich people. He will be like the grim reaper but with a bit of a conciousness mvhaha.
EDIT: MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW.
Will Eatforfood
11-02-08, 09:30 PM
hahaha.... if they have unlimited ammo.... + you decide to upgrade their weapons.... that is kind of cheating. :) Unlimited missile launching? :/ Explains the fallout environment.

GUYS!
okay, so I was super evil, I loved it. But wow the pros of being evil don't out weight the cons.
*SPOILER*
When your finding the GECK, you have the option to save his super mutan that has been locked up. If you do it, later he will come back to you after you escape, he's loaded with a chain gun (plasma/lazer) one, and he's huge. He will join you if your good.
So I was super evil. My title was like Urban Legend thats how evil I was. So what I did was picked a perk that allows me to collect fingers from evil people once I kill them, and i can trade them in for better perk and caps.
So I got about 20 fingers, and I killed the whole slave trader place and saved some kids. Now I'm finally Neutral! But what I'm saying is, it took very little to get back to neutral level, so if your super evil, you can still turn back without ilttle issues and be good again.

The president thing was funny. When i got caught after the geck thing - I got out of the cell and a police officer said "wait here - ill go check" so as he was walking past i smacked him with a power fist (its a weapon) and his head hit the roof and bounced all over haha. was funny.
Seriously though, This game is HUGE - IF you dont complete it. There are absolutely loads of "sideline" missions. I cant wait to get 100 lockpick and loot tenpenny towers!
EDIT: What do you do with the deathclaw hand?

You don't deliver a letter TO Lucy, you deliver it FOR Lucy.
After you get to Arefu, talk to Evan King and he tells you three locations to check. At one of the locations, you find a manhole in one of the rooms and you can go down into a cave that leads to a subway. Explore the subway and you'll find the people where the Family is. They're NOT hostile so don't shoot at them when you see them.

My natural tendency is to go evil in these games, pillaging and looting is just too much fun. Will I miss out on anything major by going evil? Will I be sitting there going, "Damn, I can't find any quests to do because nobody want's to talk to me?"

Wow that's pretty interesting I didn't even think about sending him to Little Lamplight. I always send him to Rivet City. Personally I think it's the better choice. Little Lamplight isn't a good place for children because when they grow up they go to Big Town which isn't very safe and it's a pretty crappy place to live compared to Rivet City.

I'm looking for the GECK right now. Kinda retarded but I noticed that I use the super sledge more than anything because they can't shoot me at close range, and all of my guns SUCK!!!! :/ even the minigun which has to be manually aimed cuz my character misses 5 feet away in VAT. Just beat it.
*Spoiler* No BOSS BATTLE? OMG..... The final battle consisted of watching a giant robot, although very very entertaining, was not very satisfying. :/ HAHAHA... "Accept democracy or BE Eradicated!" The robot said some hilarious stuff....
Overall, I think Oblivion was so much more fun. Riding horseback up a mountain while the sun is rising took my breath compared to anything fallout3 has to offer. Plus the final battle at the door to the otherworld on Oblivion was epic... Battling all the way to the very top took pain, coffee and patience. On Fallout3, the whole thing is a maintstream movie. I feel like I'm watching the game more than play.
Man, you em-effers have gotten really far on this game. I just got it yesterday and have only been able to play it for about 2 hours. I'm still wandering around the wasteland:(.
I think I'm, like, level 3 or something.

hm...you don't have the right stats then. I can kill any enemy in about 2 shots except a death claw, but I always kill him beofre he gets to me. They are so far away they can't even hit me yet.
Super mutants or enclave always die either in 1 shot or 2 in the head.
I use a plasma rifle to do my deeds i think its damage is only like 34. I'm going to find the android, if you do you can get a plasma rifle that does 50 dmg, so I can't imagine the destruction I would cause if I got my hands on that.
Even before I had energy weapons though, I could use a hunting rifle/Chinese assault rife to destroy people before they would hit me as well. Long range weapons are great.
My stats are:
100 small guns
100 enegery weapons
100 lock pick
45 for repair
65 science
barter ist at 40
speech is at 55 i think
medicine 30
and some others
stats I didn't put anything in are:
unarmed
sneak
big guns (big guns are useless I think) if I want to use a big gun like a flamer, I don't use vats at all i just run in there.
explosives
and a few others i think i'm missing.
during the whole game I've only used a close range weapon about twice and that was because i was just messing around killing awhole town with just a knife.
All my perks also are for battle, like i have a perk that makes 2 handed weapons more accurate, i also have a perk that will restore all my AP points if i kill an enemy during VATS which i almost always do. I have a sniper perk that will make head shots more accurate, i have another perk that will increase the chance of me hitting a limb the more times a target it.
So yah get the right perks, and you can destroy people from a mile away.
Also I heard people say they can't find enough ammo, It might be because your playing good and I played evil but I never ran out of ammo or guns.
Out of all the gear my partner had and I had, I think I had every gun in the game with a good supply of ammo for all of them. Now that I switched to energy weapons, I have an absurd amount of ammo now. I statrted to really use a lot of frag grenades and mines because they weigh to much adn i have around 35 frag grenades and 30 frag mines.
I never once purchased a gun either. I did however pucharse bullets, like shot gun shells or 5.56mm rounds for the assault rifle.

I pretty much went the same route you did and the game is really easy even on hard for me now <3 hunting rifle

I was good throughout the game. The only time i got bad karma was when i did this:
Didnt blow up the bomb. (good karma)
Found tenpenny hotel
Killed tenpenny in the FACE with a combat shotgun. BOOYAH! (no karma change)
Killed every guard and looted them (no karma change)
Then i let the ghouls in (lost karma)
and looted all of the shop safes and cash registers (lost karma)
I got about 2500 caps and loads of ammo from the guards/safes

What kind of "Special" weapons have people found? I found the Terrible Shotgun, which is really just a combat shotty that does extra damage. I repaired it using a couple of standard combat shotguns to about 50% and it deals 78 damage now.

the rare gun ive seen was the utral smg gun 10mm you can kill the girl to get it or let her die in battle to get the gun but once youve done the job with here you get get the plans for the steam railgun(pins part of there body to the wall) and has any one else been to the white house yet? and if your planing to you take a lot ammo, strong gun, stimpads and the fat boy (mini nuke) as theres a big 15-20ft superhuman in there and super human and bontys and loads of task people also you might want at least 75 lockpinking and hacking

#1. Making a level cap at 20
#2. Making a level cap at 20
#3. " "
#4. Game was way to short. The side quests arn't even worth it if your level capped at freaking 20 and don't get any more xp or anything, its just blah.

The level cap isn't so bad. It's already easy enough at level 20.

I agree infact I think its way to easy, even at level like 14 I was able to head shot just about any guy and kill them in 3 hits or less.
For me, if I'm not gaining any experience it just makes killing stuff not as fun.
I thought the funest time i had was when I had no stim packs, very little ammo and I was surrounded by super mutants, took forever to make it without dying. I didn't realize you could rest and slowly regain health.

question. the guy in minefield that is on the top of the destroyed building, he shoots at you for pretty much no reason, has anyone been able to talk to him?
Well i didnt bother doing the mission from the girl in the supply shop at megaton. She asks you to get some mines from there and give them to her. I lied to her instead. But at paradise falls the man asks you to catch one of four people, so i caught him. I didnt really talk to him, i hit him with the mesmorizer or whatever its called and looted his pockets while he was dizzy. He has a sniper rifle. Then i killed all the slavers to save the little kids for little-lamplight and rescued him also. He didnt say much - just started shooting tin cans and stuff like a madman.
Killed tenpenny in the FACE with a combat shotgun. BOOYAH! (no karma change)
ha ha. isn't that the best?
there is NOTHING like it, no matter WHAT game it is. i simply LOVE having a shotgun and 1-shotting enemies in the face. had fun with that in Bioshock even.
Shottie FTW lol
my current character sucks in weapons - she's a sneaky, lockpicky, computer hacky, pickpockety girl.
but my next character i want to be melee focused to get the most out of bats, brass knuckles and the fist weapon.

same but some people told me there more endding depending what you do befor
i just want to say how pimp this game is. i just wanted to throw some stuff out there that might be helpful.[/COLOR]
1. DONT KILL THREEDOG
i accidentally shot him and he went ape and so did the steel guys. =( not fun.
2. Try to go off the main story. It makes it way more exciting and fun.
try NOT blowing up Megaton. As you can acess more missions as you visit it. Such as Jerico can join you for 1000 bottle caps and follow you around the places. Hes very strong and helpful.
3. After you sell stuff to someone, KILL THEM
Most of the time after you sell something to someone you can kill them and get your bottle caps back.
4. GET INTO THE SLAVE STUFF
You can get quite a bit of money off of this but theres a down side, if you try to get the girl in Tenpenny tower, EVERYONE flips out and tries to kill you. WHICH SUCKS because its a wicked place to do stuff.
5. try not to be so damn serious.
have some fun and mess around. idk about you but if the world was a giant wasteland i would go APE ON EVERYTHING.
SO DO IT!!!!!!!!

Is it just or is there a much smaller selection of weapons in Fallout 3 than in fallout 2? Same for enemies, it feels like there is only 1/2 to 2/3 the selection of enemies and weapons that fallout 2 had.
Also, when do I start to find the gauss rifle? I have been looking for it forever and have yet to see any trace of it. Are there any high end weapons dealers (like the san fran weapons dealer in FO2) who usually carry it?

As far as me being far away from getting the power armour i would say that the game is not short at all! If you take advantage of the side quest and exploring then it is a good length.

02-03-09, 12:44 PM
the side quests can take up a good bit of time, i played it as a sniper/stealthy character, made the game really easy. invested my level ups in the things that let me find more ammo, get better criticals, increased accuracy, increased damage, better luck and perception. I also put some point into intelligence (maxed it out I think) so I got more skill points per level up. Once I hit level 20 I got bored, so I just finished off the game after that.
gottcha
02-03-09, 12:52 PM
I think i'm at that point also... well not really bored but i want to finish it as the good character i am now and start over as an evil one.

i found it on pc i think. i'll go check but its 800 points which i can't seem to find an easy way to get without giving out all my information and risk getting spammed to death.
Bumped this up so I can find it, and use it for questions. (Ignore my other bumped up thread ).
I deleted my other post and it dropped the other thread back down...
Just picked up GOTY for $38 off of Steam...oh my gosh this is a great game!!! I had forgotten why I like Oblivion so much and this is better! I was waiting for $19.99 sale but what the heck.
Skimming through this thread, are there some quests that I should avoid to see the end game? Such as Vault 112 mentioned above or will I have the chance to do them in the course of the game .
Only level 3 and trying to explore everything before doing the main story.
Can't decide what character to build...will Sneak and Pickpocket lead me to a dead end?
Thanks
I thought I would have to deal with MS stuff to use the expansion packs, but I didn't see any of that install....are they just built into the game(GOTY edition) and I'll run across them?
Thanks.
Oh.... and will my level cap be 20 or 30? Looking forward to many hours of ignoring my loving family....:sn:
I got the Fallout 3 GOTY edition with all the expansions the other day. Gonna be fun!
Ok I see now that the Data files for the expansions need to be checked and loaded at the start.
Is there any downside to loading them now or should they be loaded later?
Load 'em once you get out of the Vault, it'll crash if the game can't give you locations for you to start the DLC's (since you haven't reached the Wasteland yet, you can't get map points on the Wasteland). You can load Broken Steel, but none of the others.
On the other hand, I'm starting the game again for the fifth time, with different mods, different character, and a whole new setup. I'm going strictly for explosives and sniping, so far I'm doing.. terrible. Raiders are beating the hell outta me (well, I do have Mart's Mutant Mod on with double-increased spawns, so it's groups of 30 instead of groups of 4) but nonetheless, I'm getting wrecked. I'm also being a huge douchebag this time around. Instead of saving Megaton like I've always done, I'm blowing it up, and I killed Roy whoever right outside Tenpenny Tower. I'm planning to kill Mister Crowley as soon as I can get to Underworld as well. Pretty damn sweet.
I dunno if this was mentioned before but for hacking a computer what I do is quicksave before hacking it, give it a try and if it gets lock down, I load the game and try again.
Let's see what else... ahhh xD have you guys seen the Cockroach King? Is somewhere North east on the map 1.5 kilometers or so north of washington DC. The guys is in some throne like chair surrounded by radroaches, is very funny and bizarre.
