is the radioshack heatsink compound any good or does it suck? is it better then the pad on my slot 1 p3 700?.. would i be able to hit 933mhz with it and a better heatsink, or is it ok to use the stock heatsink and fan? i have aircooling in here..

The Radio Smack stuff isn't bad. Not great, but not bad. Arctic Silver II is much better. Just about anything is better than the garbage that comes with an Intel processor. There are NO GUARANTEES when overclocking, I can't tell you wether you could hit 933 with that or not. My guess is that you may get close but I doubt you'll hit it, no matter the cooling you use. As far as the stock HSF on a Slot 1... those things are b******s to remove. I'd try doing it with everything stock first, as taking one of those off can result in the death of the processor. There is a method that works where you use a case screw to drive the clips out of the little holes on the bottom of the processor, which usually works and does not kill the processor... but still, try everything stock first and see how high you get. G'luck and let us know your results.
The silicone Radio Shack thermal paste is one of the better of the "cheaper type" of thermal paste. Obviously, Arctic Silver is about the best, but more expensive. Jazztrumpet speaks the truth on most of what he posted. About the only thing I might add is that lots of folks have reached 933 with those P-III 700 if you use better cooling, but there is no guarantees like was mentioned. There is a link to an article about how to remove the P-III slot one heatsink on the home page of this site (overclockers.com).

I agree with most of both posts also. I have reached 933 fairly easily with an FC PGA PIII 700e, but don't know much about the potential of the slot 1 chips. I also think the key is in the cooling, although some chips won't do it no matter how cool.

well... i donno..i had to use a diffrent board to test it out cuz this board i can't get past 784.. well i got to 868mhz @ 124fsb.. but no higher i don't think it is good to leave the pci and agp at such high speeds and it just wouldn't go to 133 or it would be perfect. i even tryed putting 2 more little fans on the heatsink to keep it colder..(cuz it is a slot 1 so it has a bit of room on each side..lol). but.. i had absolutly no problems removing the heat sink... there is a clip on the 1 side.. just slide it 1 way.. then slide it back the other way and it just pulls right out.... it was alot easier then i thought.. maybe i will wait a bit and get a new processer and try with that.. or a new heatsink or both...
btw thanks for the speedy replies..
I still have a tube of that radio shack stuff laying around...
the arctic silver stuff dropped me 2-3 C on first use. I will never go back to radio shack goop, but for conveniece it's fine (and using the retail crap on heatsinks is just sad).
