Does anyone have the old clients? I need one. I'm trying to get folding to work and I think I might be able to get the old client to work. Or the windows versions and they will run in wine like they use to. Maybe then I can start folding again.
The 5.04 client, and a few others, are available here:

Same exact problem I was having in Gentoo with the v6 client. There is something with my network going on. I haven't changed anything! I can also access the servers via firefox and get my nice little "ok" on the server pages.

Are you running on a university connection perhaps?

nope, Earthlink cable via brighthouse networks. Its a residential connection. I've also tried using opendns vs. earthlink dns servers, just in case it was a dns problem, but no change. My router is running a dd-wrt v 24. I can access it the servers via firefox, i.e., and Konquer..
It doesn't matter what your connection is, imo, if you are getting an OK from the server, then your connection is fine.
There is a problem perhaps with your configuration. Please post your client.cfg contents.

I don't see anything wrong with it, Shelnutt. :(
I would set my client type to 0, and restart it, and see if that makes any difference. Maybe there is a problem with the server accepting a request for advanced methods WU from that client, for some odd reason.
It's odd because it looks so much like the old "Use IE settings?" problem, with the HTTP message in there. I'm trying to remember where the user ID comes from - wasn't that a hash of your cpu ID number? I'm foggy on that, for sure.
Is port 80 also open? I found out once the hard way that just having one of the ports for FAH open, was not working (at least not then), FAH had to have both 8080 and 80 open.
Wish I could be more helpful, but that's all I can think of. Maybe give the FAH forum a try and see what they can do, or have in there.
Good luck!

From what I remember, the old "Use IE settings" problem usually had "(inet)" somewhere on that line.
Does removing the service and starting from scratch help any? Aside from that I am without a clue.

I don't have it as a service, and I still use IE 6, even though I don't have it use IE settings, but if some how it was, then it should work anyway..also they wouldn't explain the reason for linux v6 giving me the same error.
Thanks for the ideas though.
The only time I've seen anything like this, my firewall had closed all unused ports. I had opened 8080 (iirc), for FAH. I could connect to Stanford servers, but couldn't get any work, because they used port 80 for that. (and I might well have these port numbers backwards, it's been awhile). I thought EITHER port being open, was fine.
Nope. It needed both.
