View Full Version : CD-ROM drive only working when it wants to
I have a 52X CD-ROM drive, and it only works when it wants to. I bought it this summer and really do not want to go through the hassle of dealing with the store that i bought it from if I can avoid it since I swore that I would never go back there. (They were very rude, and thier return policy is pretty bad). I checked the cables, and unhooked and reinstalled them. Even replaced them. My cd burner works just fine. Any suggestions? I also ran a cd laser lens cleaner through the drive when it was working last.

What kind (brand) of CD-rom is it?
my cousin has just the same problem with his creative 52x.
bump.
:D
Could be a bad drive, do you have any other systems to test it on?
IF it is a good brand then you'll probably have the chance of RMAing it.
BTW I was in your shoes where the store where I previously bought some CPU stuff are very rude and they acted like idiots, since they thought they can rip me off since they probably thought 'Hes 14 he doesn't know jack' :)
Yodums
The brand is "Future Power" on the box, but I would have to look at the drive to see what the real brand is that manufactured it. I think that I have a bad drive also. I was just hoping that maybe one of you on the trusty Overclockers.com site might have a suggestion that I could use as a last resort lol. I will most likely eat my money on this drive.:(
