Well up there as in 1ghz or more with a cheap AMD cpu.

go with a duron from what i hear they are great for there price.. about 50 bucks less then athlon.. i of course paid extra for the athlon but thats because i had a celly and hated it to hell and wanted to get far away from "cheap cpus" but like i said people say the durons are great and nothing like the celrons

If you want somewhere around 1 GHz on a budget, I would just buy a 1 GHz Duron or Tbird, and stick with the OEM HSF. You won't get the best overclock out of it, but you'll save around $30 on the HSF, and later on still have some room to overclock.

The Duron is $46 and the Tbird is $72 on pricewatch. You can probably get 1300 MHz out of the Tbird without much effort. I'm not sure about the Duron, I'd just guess somewhere about 1200. (I haven't heard much about the Morgan core.)

And, if you get the 1 Ghz Tbird from somewhere that does lots of business (like Newegg), you'll likely get a good stepping and be able to push it somewhere from 1300-1400 without much effort.

If you can find any AVIA-y chips you are very lucky to have the best chip known to man!!

My Morgan 1G goes 1.2-1.25 easily at 1.8-1.85 volts. Haven't try higher because don't have proper heatsink. I believe Morgan 1G is a better buy than Athlon 1G despite less cache, because it is much cheaper and has newer core.

Of course, if you find one like TranceBear's, go for it! (1G@1.6 1.85V!!!!!!!! That reminds me of good old cel300A). Otherwise, still believe that Duron is best buy. Generally, I believe that is cheaper and more effective to buy a cheap CPU once a year than buy expensive ones. Just think what the difference will be between having a Duron 1G and an Athlon 1.2G in 1 1/2 years from now. Save the extra money now to buy a new cheap 2G CPU then!!
