Hello All,

I am looking for suggestions on what are know to be good routers, and perhaps warnings on what are known to be horrible routers to avoid.

I have 4 PC's to connect 2 wired, 2 wireless all running XP pro or home.

I game and p2p on the wired, and use some bandwidth intensive buisness applications on my wireless laptop for work.

I need a router that can handle the heavy traffic on both wired and wireless without dying.

My current router, a Belkin Pre-N wireless router is dying, :bang head it drops connections, self resets at random and the frequency is increasing to 15-20 times a day.

I have reseated wires, replaced wires, checked that I have the latest firmware, bypassed the router to verify it's not the ISP.. etc

So your suggestions would be appreciated..

Also I am not one for voiding warranties by flashing 3rd party firmware..

I was looking at this as one possibility

Netgear dg834g I personally use and is OK. You will need to update to the latest firmware to get dhcp reservations to work.
Other than that zyxel have been proven to be dependable.
Speedtouch has a lot of options if you can work them out, and they are common.
Stay clear of anything belkin - personal experience of numerous failures, low throughput and crap wireless.

Most stuff is 802.11b/g so don't worry too much.

My netgear handles adsl2+ fine (just short of actual 1000kb/s download)

Linksys should be good since they are now owned by cisco but I have never used them

I like the D-Link DIR-625. Good wireless throughput, great virtual server and port forwarding features, and a nice inbound filter feature. The best router I have ever used.

If it died, I'd probabily buy another.

Never a lock-up or reset or any problems in 2 years. All functions work, no need to update the firmware.

Most people recommend the WRT54GL (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124190) because it is a good model and can easily be flashed to a variety of custom firmware to be even better.
