Ok, I know the green wire on the 20/24 pin connector is the signal for the psu to turn on so I was wondering if I hook up the power switch wires from a case into the green and black wire at the 20/24pin connector, will the psu turn on and off that way?

All you need is a paperclip. Just make sure not to short anything but the green and a black ground :)

You need a constant switch to keep the powersupply on, the power switch in your case is only momentary.

i was thinking about using a paperclip/wire, but not sure if this was safe for 24/7 use (mobo only has a p4 4pin connector so only way to tell the psu to turn on is this method)
actually i have one of those flip switches somewhere in the house, maybe i can use that..

Are you trying to do this so you can run caseless? If so, just steal a power button from a old case and hook it up to the power switch header on the mobo.

(mobo only has a p4 4pin connector so only way to tell the psu to turn on is this method)Can you please clarify what you are trying to do? :eh?:
The CPU connector on the PSU does not have the power on wire (green), so I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish.

The mobo doesn't have a 20/24 pin atx connector, just a p4 4pin connector and a dc input jack (mini itx mobo) I tried with the 4pin, but the system wont turn on at all, thus I have to use the green wire/black wire jumper to start the psu up. Only then will the mobo start up when I hit the power switch (connected to mobo f-panel header)
So when I need to completely shut the system off, I have to do it via psu switch on the back, however this is a 24/7 system so I guess its ok to just leave the paperclip in the green/black wire on the 20/24 pin connector?

yeah just leave it in or get a flip switch for the green and black wires. course i wouldnt really leavbe a paper click a piece of insulated wire only stipped at the ends would be better to prevent shorts.

yeah thats what im doing right now...
i used one of those thin copper wires from a piece of cat5 cable, stripped the ends and plugged it in the green/black wire on the atx connector so the exposed part is still covered.
