View Full Version : Overall Team Stats Will Not Be Updated Tonight
My main amd rig that I use to update the excel sheet and make site updates with is down. No it's not broken :) - had to pull the ram to try out my new Asus P4S333 mobo. So far it's so so. I don't see the feature it's supposed to have to fix the pci bus regardless of fsb speed. Anyway the main stats will be updated sometime tomorrow.

Just curious. I wish the reviewers would add testing with SETI along with the usual Sandra and friends,

Just curious. I wish the reviewers would add testing with SETI along with the usual Sandra and friends, I'm going to RMA the P4S333. Not that anything is wrong with it. I was actually stunned by the memory scores with a plain old stick of pc2100 in it (in the range of 1400/1500 with crucial pc2100) The problem is it won't allow you to fix the pci/agp bus like the i850 boards. It was rumored that it did have this feature, but it doesn't. The northwood I bought will have a sweet spot around 125 fsb which would probably kill my hard drive on this board. I'm sticking with a P4TE.
To answer your question, yes I certainly hope so :) Of course I'm paying more for it too ($550 for the chip). I expect to easily get low 2 hour work unit times out of this once overclocked to around 2.7-2.8GHz. My 1500+ boxes clocked around 1700 average between 2:50 to 3:30 per unit. I expect this rig to cut about 45 minutes off that average.
Sounds like another nice system coming online TC. :)

With benz4140 breathing down my neck I'd be hocking everthing I owned on eBay to upgrade my systems. Come to think of it I am hocking all my old stuff.
I don't really care so much about being #1 anymore. I started out #1 when the team was first created, then got beaten down pretty good early on. I enjoyed quite a few challenges on the way back up, enjoyed being #1 again, and now I have set my sights on a greater goal. My main interest is breaking into the top 1000 members in the world. That will take about another 10,000 units.
As far as the new cruncher goes, it's really my main office computer more than a seti box. What I wanted was a lot of power with very little noise. The P4 finally offers that, albeit for a hefty sum. Of course I remember the days when every new cpu was damned expensive. I paid $600 for my first 600MHz Slot A classic Athlon.

What cooling are you using on these? OCZ Monster II is doing a good job on my XP and cost less than 10 bucks. Now I can't find any more. Everyone dropped them and moved to the higher mark up ones.

P.S. If I were setting up a SETI farm, a pair of K7S5A's with XP 1500's generate 16 wu's per day vs 12 wu's per day with your Northwood @ 2hr 0 min.

P.P.S. Does anyone know what benz4140 is using? Looks like he switched to a RISC array by his numbers.
I'm pretty much with TC. I really run SETI to achieve my own goals. It is really nice to have a team to crunch with but overall team standings are a nice secondary. :)

He is using a patched client. Those aren't valid work units he is producing.

P.S. Is recompiling with Intel's optimized P-4 compiler a patched client too?
I'm using mostly Thermalright SK6's and delta fans on my XP's. I also have a glaciator 2 and it does fairly well with slightly less noise.
I wouldn't dream of building a farm with P4's right now. Just too expensive relative to what you can get from amd.
Benz is up to something. Nothing out there can crunch that fast. I'm afraid I'll have to remove him from the team pretty soon. I'll see if Dr Korpela can contact him first. Losing him will not kick us out of the top 100 though.
I'm not aware of any method of recompiling the Seti client - they won't provide the source code.

Looking at his profile I'd have to suspect something is up too...
at one point we had a member named IceTea, had to boot him & his WUs, the team really took a loss but in the long run it was worth every bit of the setback to save our integrity...
Hopefully Tim can get an email off the Dr. Eric @ SETI and they can see what's up with his WUs... Eric is always VERY diplomatic, perhaps Benz will have an explaination...
It would be nice to see what the explanation is, I have never seen benz post anywhere in here. Has anyone else? It would be a shame to lose someone but if they are not really producing the work then technically they aren't really doing seti in my estimation. Keep us up to date.

If we lost 14K W/Us right now we would drop to 44th place, down two from where we are tonight. I would really hate to see this happen but it's actually a nice thought that we could "lose" that many and "only" drop two places in the standings.

Nor does anyone else Tim, from what I have seen it has only been within the past month that Benz's stats have started being called into question. It's a shame and not exactly the type of thing we need associated with our team if it indeed is a patched client. Which is exactly why you are doing what you are intending to do. We want to get to the top doing it by the book's not by attempting to cheat the system, all that does is cheapen the team effort overall by having that happen. We will get there by being on the level we just need to perservere and stay on task as we have thus far, keep up the great work guys.

first of all....what is a "patched client" and what does it do....is it simply a patch on seti driver that cheats for you? second...i think i have seen benz in here, but only once or twice.

patched clients run a variety of ways... 'nough said...
In the end each devalues the science of the S@h project... most upload completley bogus results, at worst they upload abbreviated results...
In any case, it becomes an issue of integrity... both the integrity of our team & the SETI project... IMHO, stats are simply not worth such a compromise of ethics...

I agree that at first 100+ WU each day were awfully mysterious, but hey use to be 2:30 hours per WU.....now at 0.7 hours per WU are more fishy.....
Someone need to contact him ASAP for questioning!!!!!
Loosing now 15,000 WU will be major setback, as we will be with 455,000. AS Team Picard has 450,000 WU we will reamin in the same rank.....
For those that remember when Ice-T was banned then we lost 10,000 and droped from the 75 (or something like that) to the 90 position.....

I was wandering around and I checked the berkeley stats page and found that benz has updated his SETI account with a url (http://www.scbeasy.com/easy1-3/index.html). If you click it you are sent to a page in thai (well IE ask to install the Thai compatibility mode) of what it's stated as "Thailand first Internet Bank". The only thing that I could sort out was an ICQ number. As I don't use ICQ, you can try it and see if they could direct you to a place where you could contact benz. The number is 116925119. It also something (I must suppose it's the time were you could contact them) like a schedule 8:30 to 17:00 (I would think is Thailand time.....something like UT-12.
So if someone with ICQ could inquiere a little you might contact benz.

Thanks again, maybe we can sort things out, maybe we can't Perhaps he has the Internet bank of Thailand crunching all his wu's honestly at this point we don't know.

I've watched his output for months and it will go from around 60-80 for a couple weeks then jump to about 120 per day and is now right around...270?
Hate to think something's up but that's a huge difference in production from month to month.

I am curious who this benz is so i checked our member directory and searched for Benz4140. We have no such member! I did an advanced search and tried different variations of his linked home page on seti@home site and still nothing shows here! I even tried the ICQ # you provided and nothing. Are you sure he's a member?

On the team of course he's right below me at the moment.
