I've just started my first OC,
I'm starting small and working my way up (I'm nervious about big jumps)

Running Asus P5K se with e8400

I've set the fsb for 340 and multiplier to 9, vcore is at 1.20 so far

This all checks out in the BIOS but when I run AI suite it reads the FSB fine but sometimes the Vcore will jump up to 1.98 (supposedly) and my temps go into the high 40's.

I did another check using CPUid to check, Vcore came in at 1.20 FSB 340 but the multiplier was down to 6.

Is this something to worry about, if so how can i fix it?

Many thanks

The lower multiplier you're seeing in CPUID / CPU-Z is the result of having Intel Speedstep (EIST) enabled in the BIOS. You can read up on both EIST and C1E (Enhanced Halt State) in this AnandTech article...

... and instead of using AI Suite, use CPU-Z like you have been, or a program like Everest or HWMonitor. You could also try using either CoreTemp or RealTemp to read the core temp's, which are the norm for OC'ers.

Ok thanks alot :santa:

I thought my Cpu was doing something screwy on me :p

But are these bad things that must be purged? ie: turning them off.
