ive got 30 bucks to spend on a air hsf what do u think is good...
P.S i get about 36 to 38 idle without rain 2.0 runing and 26 with it runing and about 41 to 43 load (rain does nothing in load [which i alrdy knre] ) with my current volcano II with a rpm of about 4964 do u think a new hsf can get this lower...?? i need to know sence im going to also be upgradeing my mobo to be able to overclock... and need to know what else i need to buy at the same time...

Can I ask you to spend an extra $9.99 and get the HHC-001 Heat Pipe Cooler (http://www.ipkonfig.com/Reviews/Heatsinks/CoolerMaster_HeatPipe/)
http://www.coolermaster.com.hk/en/products/cooler/hhc-001.jpg
Looks like a winner, and if it doesn't work well for you you can cut it up and let us know if the base is hollow, and tell us what the wick is made up off :p
really i would think the
Swiftech MCX370 w/ DELTA 38CFM Fan 7000RPM
for 35 bucks would be better..
or would it be better to just buy a 7000 rpm fan and put it on my valcano 2?
also man can u do me a HUGE fav and put a mic next to ur PC and record for a little so i can see how loud it is?? if that is even possible..

SVC's version of the gladiator works pretty well, you'll need to lap it though. They can usually be bought for around $20 on sale with a delta 38cfm fan. They have decent prices on ASII too if you need it, you could get the HS/F and ASII for under $30 total.
I would recommend the Millenium Glaciator 2 which costs around $30.00. Another good deal is the original Glaciator for $20.00. Both deliver great cooling without filling your PC room with too much noise. If noise is not an issue, consider the Dynatron 638. Excellent cooling with a louder fan than the Glaciator.
Good luck with whatever you wind up using.

I didn't realize the Glaciator II was so cheap, if that's the case then I agree with Hoot, go with that one.

yea tthats what i thought!! but i made my waterblock for free and the hoses were like a couple bux and the connectors for the watterblock wrere like 2 bux and the PUMP was the spendy one! it costed me 20 bux with like 5 shipping and i bought 6 80mm fans like 4 for the radiator thats a old heatercore that i got for free....and if you add all that up....
its not installed yet, i havent got the fans or the pump yet....
just wondering how im gnona mount everything, and i made the rezivore out of a old cd case like a 50 cdr case and a syrup bottle! and a 2ltr cap on it for filling...
and i need the nylon screws or whatever to mount it... wich mite be a problem.... cuz my block is kinda close to tose holes...

Go for an Alpha PAL8045 if your motherboard can fit it from svcompucycle.com. It's only $4 to ship it, and it performs INCREDIBLY well. It accepts 80mm fans by default, too!
first off i dont have a mill in my house so i cant build anything like that ;)
also the HHC-001 is pretty intresting a bit pricey yes but hmm might look into that..
o and noise is not a prob as i use a headset and am listening to music most of time im on my system..
JFettig
01-14-02, 07:02 PM
my block was built without a mill
simply what it is, is a old heatsink and a aluminum plate i found at school(lapped) and i put them together with jb-weld with ASII in the middle of them. i just used some plexiglass i found in my vacant barn.... got some copper fittings, and thats IT!!
hmm see i cant weild :D never could and dont plan to anytime soon in a apartment ;)
but what do u guys think of this
http://www.abilitywholesale.com/product.asp?0=231&1=232&3=194
also i love the last thing on this page..
NOTE: 8000 RPM = LOUD + EFFICIENT
These are not quiet fans they are however VERY efficient for the cooling demands of the larger and faster processors!
RMAS/Returns Will not be accepted due to excessive noise. These are 8000 RPM fans and they are not quiet. If you want a quiet fan do not buy 8000rpm - Welcome to technology!!

NO NO NO! its JB WELD its like plastic!
basicly its glue

jb weld...on my waterblock!
hmm thats intresting.... but i still dont think im rdy for water cooling.... hmm but it is intresting where did u get the cooler for the water???
also what do u guys think about the Taisol CGK760092???

Water Block 54 Cents (http://www.agaweb.com/coolcpu/build.htm)
15 $ pump

hmm what about a water cooler? also what if i ever plan on going to a lan game?? but i still dont think im rdy for that kind of project yet..

Water coolers love lan games:D
I have seen a few in case setups but i think a bong could be drained and moved easy.
I don't know as i got a BIG FAT WIRE. We all just meet on line.
yeah ive never been to a lan game before but would like to go to some in the near future..

get a glaciator II.
Glaciator 2 or alpha 0845 at svc
i would love the alpha but how much is a good 80 mm fan i mean i have 2 in my pc and one that i can take out without to much of a prob but i dont think 2500 rpm is enough or is it??? also the Millennium Glaciator II what makes it so good??? i mean it looks like it would do a worst job then my volcano 2 with 5000 rpm fan.. and do u know anywhere but here http://65.108.114.210/cgi-bin/cart.pl?IT=MG02 that i can get it..??
Millennium Glaciator II
or add 10 more dollars for the CoolerMaster Heatpipe.
Yodums
hmm so all u guys think the Millennium Glaciator II is the best hmm well how loud is the heatpipe?
Blue Jester_2112
01-15-02, 06:48 PM
Depends on the fan you get with the HS. Usually places will tell you how loud the included fan is in DB. I believe the Heatpipe comes with a Delta 38 cfm fan witch sounds similar to a hair dryer on low. Kind of a high pitched whine. I'm pretty sure you can get the glaciator with different flavors of fan.
If you go here:
ttp://www.sidewindercomputers.com
they have a listening room where you can here what different fans sound like.
god dam never knew those delta mother****ers can whine like that...
i think this might be a good deal
Thermalright SK6+ YS Tech 7000rpm, Copper
for 30 bucks and like 6 bucks shipping i was going to go with the
Thermalright SK6+ Delta HUGE 60x38 8000rpm fan, Copper
for 33 bucks and 6 bucks shipping but i dont think i can stand that whine... the 6900 is pretty loud and i dont know if i can handle a 8000.. what do u guys think should i pay the extra 3 bucks and get the 8000 rpm one and find a way to make my pc sound proof? or **** the extra 2 degrees it drops off from the 7000 rom ys tech?? or **** the sk6 and go with a millinum..??? im so confused..
P.S i cant find to many places that sell the glaciator well i only found one really.. do u know of anywhere else that sells it?
ozman go to www.svcompucycle.com and get the 0845 for 30.99 adn 5.99 for a nice YS tech fan shipping is 4 dollars. 80mm is the way to go for low noise and massive overclocks. the G2 is great too but might cost about the same.
um the alpha is 35 bucks not 30 so my total will be like around 48 bucks which i MIGHT do if u guys thing the alphia is the best and with the least amount of noise..
but what do u guys think of this i found this deal on a site
CoolerMaster HHC-001 Dual Heat Pipe All Copper Heatsink w/ 7000RPM Aircooler fan for AMD or INTEL processor, Socket A (Socket 462) or Socket 370 (FC-PGA), AMD approve for Thunderbird/Duron & XP upto 1.67ghz+, for PIII upto 1.1ghz+, 7000rpm, 38cfm(airflow) (140-0570)
for 32 bucks plus 8 bucks shipping so 40 bucks total.. do u think that would be a better deal? but the also whats the dif between the CoolerMaster HHC-001 and the CoolerMaster HHC-002 is it just the heat pipe?

There's just somethin' about a pound and a half of pure copper goodness that gets me all happy inside.... mmmmm Glaciator II.... Aboutn the only drawback for the glaciator is the chance of snapping off your socket if you move your case around HARSHLY. Be nice and it's fine. I don't think this'd be my first choice for a LAN H/S....

Thats a scary thought!
I vote for the Glaciator I/II as well. I had an SK6 with a 30 cfm TT fan and it would be bested by my Glaciator every time.
Just make sure to be carefull when you are moving the machine around, you might even want to remove the heatsink before you do.
so u think the glactior is better then the CoolerMaster HHC-001 with a 700 rpm fan they are the same price...

And that is a really good temp. You are aware that if one does the math you have the best overclock I have seen yet.

The Glaciator II is the hsf that I recommend as well. They acually out-perform the Sk-6 in the test done here at Overclockers.com and it is a hell of a lot quiter than a Delta 38 (I have one and the noise is really irratating). I can't really tell you where to get one because they are very popular. They are better than an SK-6 (please don't flame me guys, look on the front page and you'll see I'm just following the results) and they are real quite.
33 to 34c is that loud or idle and what was ur case temp...
hmm so the hhc-001 is neck to neck with the Millennium Glaciator II thats interseting.. and u also say the Millennium Glaciator II is quite.. hmm i wonder how it does it...
Its a big chunk of solid copper is how it does it,
fairly wide areas between the fins allow the air
to flow thru pretty well. Always move the comter
with the motherboard down using that heavy
critter so you don't bust the lugs off the socket,
or better yet remove the heatsink all together
before transport. I've never removed my glaciator
before transport but I am always aware of how
I am carrying the cpu.
hmm do u mean i should not be smacking my computer when i get this hsf?? DAM wheres the fun in that ;) ok i understand but they why didnt they go with the 4 hole idea even though i hate it ;) or at least goten a better clip??
also anyone know of anywhere else i can get this hsf but thermal corp or whatever they are called?

I just got 2xSK6 with delta fan for $24 each (for my future dual, parts coming soon) at http://www.hardcorecooling.com/, phone order only and metioned pricewatch $24 advertised price. Shipping is flat $6 I think. Go ahead, try it out.

I can't hear it over the rest of the fans in my case. Case temps are usually 5c over ambient.
so i take it 33 is idle right??
ghengisjam
01-18-02, 08:15 AM
No, 33 is under load. I don't care what it's doing at idle, it never idles. If I'm not using to school people in Red Faction, then it's Folding@Home.
hmm kool so does anyone know of any other sites but the thermal one that sells these?

Millenium Thermal is a direct seller. No middle man, keeps the costs down.
hmm odd so there are no resellers?

$40 to save $100-$300, works for me! What is really bad is when you want to go all air cooling and setting up everything so it can be OC'ed before you try (better safe than sorry is my opinion)! I figured that getting a new HSF, 2-3 Crystal orbs (chipset, GPU, SPU), Tin coated Copper ram sinks~10 (video and sound card) Thermaltakes Active Cooling set-up for SDRAM or DDR, Non-Active Memory Cooling from Thermaltake and 2 meduim 120mm fans + 2 tubes of AS II and 1 tube of AS epoxy would cost me around $200-$260 depending on where I can or will go! I am going to go with the idea for memory cooling for my 8500 which was featured on the front page about 1 or so weeks ago which is going to only cost me $17 ($14 of that is a vise) instead of paying $45 for the HS's for the video and sound card memory.

i just replaced my cooler master DP5 with an OCZ Goliath for around $30. great hsf, went with the Delta 50cfm(kinda loud...actually really loud, comparable to a hair dryer)cools fine, i get around 42C under load at 1.55

A quality heatsink is worth it's weight in reliable overclocking. and seein as how the Glaciator II weights about a pound and a half, that's a lot of oc'ing....:D

plz don't put a mic next to ur machine to record. It will be a waste of time cause everybody listens to sound files at different volumes. It will be useless cause it will not give an accurate description of the sound. It is better to just know the sound of the computer.

if you want to hear fans that are comparitively recorded, go to:
http://www.sidewindercomputers.com
and go to the "Hear Our Fans". they've recorded all their fans in mp3 format so you can compare them online.
yeah i alrdy did.. it really helped...
ok im sure im geting on everyones nerves with this BUT i was looking at this review

and both of them seem to get the same profrmence.. so why shouldnt i go with the version 1 and not version2??

01-21-02, 07:09 PM
Well, the MG I is a little bit heavier which might be the difference between popping the lugs off of your ZIf socket. Also, If you look at the tested HS's in the "Heatsink Performance Reviews", you'll find that the MG I is not even on the list. I would go with the MG II if I were you because it has great cooling and it is lighter than the MG I. Thats just my opinion, and I could be wrong. :)
yeah but is it work 20 bucks more?
dreadlord79
01-21-02, 10:43 PM
It's your $$. I personally would go with it if you can find and its not sold out. Since it is a newer design, it weighs less and it has got so many good reviews; it couldn't hurt. Like I said above, it's your $$. :)
yeah but u get the same temps on both the hsf only one is not as heavy.. and being the student that i am and on a tight buget i need the most at the lowest.. and heavynest and taking off a heatsink or making sure im carfull around it is something that does not seem to much to ass.. what do u think?
okay the svc 0845 is 29.98!
hmm thats not bad for 43 bucks total.. but is a 48.5CFM YS-Tech 4-pin any good?
wanted to thank u guys for all ur info i just ordered the PAL8045 and i got my new motherboard alrdy :D (kk266-PLUS raid) i got the hsf for 45 bucks total.. 37 for the hs with thr fan one grill and one 60 mm gril.. seems like a good deal and i cant wait to put it in and do some massive OCing :D MUAHAHAH
