View Full Version : Is this video card OK for video editing?
I don't do games! The only moderately taxing video that isn't up to snuff on my machine is video streaming with Quicktime. I have noticed my daughter's machine gives better geometry with the streaming site I watch on a semi-regular basis.
I saw that the All in Wonder 32 MB card is on sale for $130 after rebates this week at CompUSA. Is this a good card to choose for my needs. I would like to be able to transfer video from my camcorder to the PC and edit it on the PC.
Please remember the first sentence. I don't need state of the art gaming speed.
Thanks for all opinions.

Which All in Wonder is it? Is it the Radeon or the Pro 128? And do you need the TV tuner or just video in? Because for $17 more you can get the Radeon VIVO online? (VIVO=Video in/Video out)

The "all in wonder", is a Radeon VIVO. It's the way to go for amateur video editing. I say "amateur" because anything more would be touching on studio quality, and would cost way more. There seems to be no middle ground in this department. But, anything involving video capture, ATI is the way to go in my books. Not too shabby game wise either.

I thought the VIVO was just that and the All in Wonder was VIVO+TV tuner...:eh?:
It is listed as Radeon in the ad (sorry I omitted that) but there is no mention of a TV tuner.
I think this is the card and it does say it has a tuner but I haven't gone to the store to check it out yet:

It also is supposed to have MPEG2 built in. I have been having some trouble doing MPEG conversions with the freeware program available on the web (TMPG).
So all in all this will be a likely purchase.
Do any others on the forum have opinions?
I went to the CompUSA store today and found that the Radeon All in Wonder is bundled with Ulead Videostudio 4. The cheaper All in Wonder Rage is bundled with Videostudio 5. (Normally cheaper - it is actually $150 with no rebates to deal with versus $130 for the Radeon with two rebates that have to be filed.)
Is this a big deal? Do either versions of this program convert AVI files to MPEG2 files? Neither seems to be the DVD version of the Videostudio that is the most current full featured version now offered.
And will the utility of these cards be much different for a user not interestedin gaming?
