Hi Hi few nights ago I ran across this sub forum.
I have a few questions regarding sound and vid.
I have a sony projector all equipment thus far is HDMI blue ray player so on and so forth.
Ok back about 5 months ago I hooked up my computer used a DVI to HDMI
convert wire well desktop and web looked terrible But games where awesome
did I have my vid properties/projector setup/configured wrong?
I also have a SB audigy2 ZS and the receiver is a 7.1 I used the fiber but quickly found that the audigy2 does not have anything other than stereo
over fiber so would it be ok to use my 3 outputs on the back of the card for
the 7.1 with out it humming?
And for the last question so far is what vid card would be the best for this type of setup?

which SONY PJ do you have?? model? spec?? I'm sorry but I'm not quite 100% understand your question/problem?? you said when you hook you PC up to the projector, it looks very good in gaming, but sux in desktop/web usage?? more detail?? I don't see why it's the projector or the video card setting problem IF gaming looks awesome. I hook up mine to my Epson 1080UB projector via HDMI (well, more like HDMI-->AVR-->PJ), and have no problem.
I also have a SB audigy2 ZS and the receiver is a 7.1 I used the fiber but quickly found that the audigy2 does not have anything other than stereo

you'll need a real audio card, not gaming audio card. over SPDIF, and 2 channels? are you saying in gaming?? (I bet!) or movie?? unless you have either DDLive or DTSConnect w/ your sound device (card or onboard), which will encode all windows sound into DD/DTS in real time and output it via SPDIF. otherwise, all windows sound (desktop/games/etc.) will only be output in 2 channels mode. or you can use analog output to your receiver to get in game surround sound too.
And for the last question so far is what vid card would be the best for this type of setup?
again, depends on what do you need?? what type of setup are you talking about?? PC gaming?? or movies (HD?)??

Yeah sorry about that after re-reading what i wrote plus your questions I can see I left every thing hanging..
Ok primary usage of my HTPC will be DVR and watching TV.
Projector is a Sony AW-15
receiver is a Onkyo HT-R550 7.1 SS
I have a blue ray player --- But might make this one also
Every thing I have is in HDMI and sound is in fiber optics,
I only have HDMI ran to the PJ.
As for desktop and web looking like crap I could not read any lettering
But then again my desktop is 1920 x 1200 and I might have tried using that setting on my PJ lol. Oh I also had to use a DVI to HDMI cord something like this http://www.svideo.com/dvihdmi2.html
Sound wise I am looking for a good card trying to stay fiber optic
again no gaming will be going on.
Hope to get 1080p if possible might look at a few basic cable tv tuners
also im keeping my eye out for satellite ability for this..
thanks hope I cleared everything up anymore questions just fire them away

the AW15's native resolution is 1280x720, which is what you should set your HTPC's resolution to. (and now I see why you said the desktop looks like crap! 'cos you are trying to do 1920x1080 res in a 1280x720 display! the font will be unreadable!)
as for sound, you can just use your motherboard's SPDIF out to connect to your AVR. that way, it will just straight pass thru the sound (DD5.1 for your movies and HD TV) to your receiver and let your receiver to decode it. no sound quality will be affected.

yes. HDMI = DVI + Sound. and you can use the DVI->HDMI cable to connect to your PJ (or HDTV) w/out any lose of picture quality.
