Is it safe to burn dvds with a burner resting on its side?

Is burning dvds with a tower resting on its side a reliable method?

for the record, my tower is resting on its side because i like to have the monitor resting on top of it; i like having it elevated so the middle of the screen is eye level :p

I think it should be fine, I've seen external CD drives that sit sideways so I bet it would work for burners too. Its just its kind of annoying to open the tray and have the disc fall out.

I have a Dell with the drive on its side, never been a problem.
