View Full Version : 4850/4870 power-saving, screen won't come back on

On both my 4850 and 4870, when the monitor goes off for power-saving, it won't come back on, no matter what I do. I get the feeling it is a driver issue, and something in memory or on disk gets corrupted when it turns off. When it goes off, the only way I can use the system again is to hit the reset button (holding power button for 5 seconds is entirely different issue, I have to unplug AC and sometimes clear CMOS to cold boot after hard power-off) and Windows will freeze on the loading screen, but another reset and "start Windows normally" always succeeds. This happens every time. Any ideas on fixing this?

1. Have power settings for display to automatically turn off after some time.
2. Let display go off. Display will not come back on.
3. Hit reset button.
4. Windows freezes at the screen with the squares going across status bar.
5. Hit reset button.
6. Select "start Windows normally" and everything is fine until step 1 occurs.

I've disabled power-saving for now. I never had this issue on an 8600 GTS.
