Hi-
Question regarding where to mount my radiator. I'm building my first watercooler using a 6" x 6" heatercore style radiator in a Antec SX 1040B case. Is it better to mount the rad up top with a 4 1/2 " hole blowing air in over the radiator, or up front with the same size hole for the intake ??? I'd like to keep everything self contained , as I do atend LAN events on occasion... I bought the Antec to replace my CoolerMaster 201 because of the extra room, and honestly the CoolerMaster looks great, but needs lots of fans to cool as well as my old Antec SX 840.....

In my Antec 840, I mounted my 6x6 radiator in the lower front, after nibbling out the 80mm hole for a 120mm. I used two low velocity Panaflo 120mm fans in push-pull configuration on my radiator. I found using two low velocity 120s in push-pull afforded better air penetration through the radiator than one high velocity (louder) 120mm in either push or pull alone. The 120s I use provide the bulk of the through-case airflow also. I populated the remaining three case fan holes with quiet low velocity Panaflos. Those, in parallel with the PSU fan make for adequate exhaust suction without being too loud. With this configuration, my case temp runs about 2C above the air temp in my computer room, when the CPU is running at full load and that is fine with me. Here is a thread with a picture of how I deployed my water cooling setup.

Good Luck

Nice !!
Thanks for the input!! Now I've got some thinking to do...
I was hoping for a unamimous decision.....:D
BTW, I like the clean look to that beast Hoot!!! What did you use to cap your bleed line ??? That's the only part I have left to do..other than wait for my heatercore. (My dremel, 41/2" holesaw, and roto-zip are all fired up, ready to chop!!!)

How 'bout you put the radiator in the very top of the case. Seal all the vents and cracks in the case. Then put a couple 120's low in the side to pressurize the case. Only way the air can get out is through the power supply and the radiator. Put filters on the fans and the inside of the case will stay spotless.
