View Full Version : So who bought the COD World at War?

I said that I would buy it and give it a try and so far I like it. I've only played MP a few times because I want to get through the single player missions first and then try some co-op. I'm liking the flame thrower and the maps are pretty good so far. It's nice to see a change of scenery so if you weren't impressed with the beta there's still a reason to go out and buy it. If you're lucky you'll get one with a free "Enemy at the Gates" DVD like I did. Not bad for just a little over $50 out the door.

I picked it up last night and only played multiplayer. It was a blast, but I got my ass handed to me. I thought I would be better than I was after playing COD4 MP on my xbox 360 and blamed my noobishness on the controller, but apparently I am not as good yet at this game as I am on DoD source or other PC multiplayer games. Maybe I just need to learn the maps more, it seems like people on there already knew where the spawn points were and where the HQ's were going to spawn before they would pop. It is fun, but I am a little dissapointed about the gun bonuses- they can't be used in create a class, only in the standard classes (I bought the collectors edition). Can't wait to try the single player tonight!

cool, how does it compare to CoD4 MP? similar just different guns/maps etc? or completely different?

I like it a lot so far, though I'm not far into single player yet. MP is a blast =P

I've only played a little bit of the SP game, but I like it so far. I am not a very skilled player, so I usually don't do very well in MP, but I'll gve it a shot once I finish or get bored of the SP game.

I got it last night for PS3 and played for a few hrs. The campaign feels like most COD campaigns; lots of action good story line. I am glad they decided to end the infinite enemies (like in COD4), once you kill all the enemies in a firefight they are gone!

Although I loved the Flamethrower I think its way overpowered with the infinite tank o gas. It does have its limits like the short distance, and overheating, but i think they could have scattered fuel tanks for ammo.

Co-op campaign is awesome too! I played the first couple of missions with my bro and it was a lot more fun than just solo. But i have to say that sharing a screen kinda sucks, and for some reason, both sides are not stretched to fit the entire screen and they are offset (one screen is higher than the other but i guess its so you can tell the difference between screens).

It is very similar MP gameplay wise, which in my opinion is a great thing as the leveling up is still a genius gameplay mechanic for a MP FPS. There are dogs instead of the helicopter for starters, and it still is very much a run and gun kind of MP game. The maps are bigger for snipers, but with the way you spawn randomly around the map, it is still going to be hard to stay hidden for very long unless you are playing hardcore and don't have the camera showing the person you just killed your location. Long story short, if you loved the COD4 Mp, you are going to love CODWAW MP.

Awesome I'll be picking this up after my exam tomarrow for the xbox then!
I've spent a ton on games lately, Fallout 3, now I'll buy this, another 60 bucks, then I'll get Left for Dead another 60, oh and I bought Gears of war 2, another 60 lol. Christ. I'm going to have to get a job soon if I keep this up. The sad part is I have a job but not until I graduate! ahh! 1 more semester after this suck.

not on the PC, i noticed if you don't move up in the game, the enemies keep appearing, a few times i turned around and where there was guy i killed a new one was standing.

Here in Canada there was a massive uproar over it being released on 11/11.

We celebrate rememberance day as memorial day here in Canada. We don't do memorial day, so Nov 11 is our only real day to honor veterans.

There was a lot of discussion at a lot of the ceremonies and on the news about how it was insulting to release a game glorifying WWII on the same day that we are to honor those who lost friends, parts of themselves, and loved ones, in a war that was anything but glorious (what war is?).

really!? Then to me COD4 is worse. If you just try and pick off all the enemies from one spot, youll run out of ammo before you kill em all. I guess I didnt notice since it wasnt as bad.

I did. Picked it up around 1ish.
I already finished single player campaign, played with three other people in Nazi Zombies and got up to 11 before we couldn't keep the doors boarded up long enough to reload and bit the dust. Been playing multi now to try and get all those levels I did in beta back and then some. lol

Forgot this came out! And I've got a lan party this friday to test it out.Be warned though. You need different copy of the game with its unique CD key for each computer to lan with WatW. So if you have 6 computers you need 6 copies of COD WAW. Thats my biggest gripe that is different from COD 4. MP is great though.

just finished a few of teh campaign missions. I was stuck on the sniper one for quite a while, its pretty challanging on hardened. It does remind me a lot of the sniper mission on COD4 (which is a good thing since that mission was sweet).

Well after playing more last night and getting a feel for the maps I am doing much much better than I would have with the xbox360 controller. Keyboard and mouse for the win! I have a question about punkbuster and COD4 on the PC. It seems to me like there was some cheating going on, or some people I played with are godlike in this game already. One guy had his name above him chnaged in color so he looked like an ally. I have found though that playing hardcore is much more fun and seems to be less of a run and gun situation.

^Yah I had pretty much assumed that.

I haven't had coffee yet, and accidentally made a new thread this morning:
I picked it up yesterday and blasted through it in 5.5hrs on Normal. I freaking love it. Its Classic CoD. The graphics aren't 'bleeding edge' but they serve the game quite well. The musical score is a knockout, imo. I didn't pay any attention to the actual storyline (its wwII, how many of these have we played?) but the gameplay was killer. Again; its Classic CoD, Treyarch didn't drop the ball. The game ran great, too. The only problem I had was when my character got stuck and the game saved the checkpoint; killing myself wouldn't put me in a new spot. As far as I know you can't reload the checkpoints, so I had to replay that level. Man, there a tank driving mission, an aerial mission.. the game covers all bases. The last few levels were pretty epic.

If you like ww2 fps; stop reading, go buy it.

I was thinking about picking this up, but my question is multiplayer (which is why I would get it). I bought CoD4 when it came out and had a blast, but then I got Battlefield Bad Company for PS3 and honestly I thought it was a better game, the destructable enviroments added alot for me. So wondering if this is all that different from CoD4, if it has desructable enviroments I'm in!

bluesugar
11-14-08, 02:21 PM
No to the destructible environments. But if you had a blast playing CoD4, you will have a blast playing this game, especially since some maps have tanks, and some maps are much larger than CoD4's.

1Kurgan1
11-14-08, 04:57 PM
Tanks is a nice bonus, thats what I also always loved about battlefield, close combat is fun and all, but lets bring it to a larger scale and add vehicles then thats what I'm talking about... that is till my head gets picked off by a sniper.

Just finished the single player and I thought the game was pretty good. Although I do miss the quotes and stuff when you would die. They really added to the game in my opinion and it just seems like you're playing a game in world at war, and not fully immersed like the other call of duty games.

Quick question: Is it the same graphics engine (or similar in movement ...etc.) as CoD4?
The reason I ask is because I got CoD4 when it came out, but when I played it I immedietly got motion sickness.

It did not take me more than 5 minutes in CoD4 to completely upset my eyes and stomach and start feeling really really sick.

I stopped playing it just a few days after I bought it.

My fear is that CoD5 (this one) could be the same?

Note that I play many MP shooters with no problem whatsoever, including BF2, UT3 ...etc.

Please advice :)

Ya its has a very similar look to cod4 as far as graphics. I had that problem playing HL2 when it came out. It eventually goes away, but I hate that feeling. Try changing the lighting or placing the monitor further away etc.

multi-player maps are packed with detail and look amazing, also looks like they've done a gud job of keepin these maps fairly glitch free.

WOW, this game SUCKS!!!

Basically, it's COD 2 in another environment, same graphics, same moves and even the SAME DAMN VOICES for the germans

What's the world of games turning to?

First NFSU which is pretty much the same as Need for speed Most wanted/carbon

same damn graphics, same "special tricks" only a different HUD and a different(and may I add sucky) storyline

This for me is actually quite pathetic

I've seen better mods and maps on CoD4 than the CoD5 beta.

It's lucky for CoD5 that the modding community never took off for CoD4 as much as it deserved as I doubt sales would have been as impressive as they will be.

I think they are the same graphics as COD4 lol. It might not appear that way because the environment was very similar to COD2. Try maxing your graphics out.

I did notice how you mentioned some of the things the Germans were yelling were very similar to other COD games lol. Regardless the game is pretty fun for me still. Try going through the campaing a little more and unlocking the Zombie mode, its a lot of fun.

CoD4 Still sells for $50 at BB over a year after it came out. I don't expect the same thing from CoD5.

The game is powered by an enhanced version of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare engine, with several improvements made to the physics model. Environments are now more destructible and can be set on fire with the flamethrower, which features propagating fire. Bullets can cut holes in thin wood, making a gap big enough for the player to climb through.

Just picked this up last night (was playing other games until now). I really like it. The constant artillery strikes are a wee bit annoying (especially since you really can't hide from them), but other than that I love it. Once I get better and can call in the strikes i'm sure I won't mind as much :P

I really like the scale of the maps, and I think the graphics are pretty awesome. Played on a hardcore team deathmatch server last night. Can't wait to try out some other gametypes and the single player campaign.

Definitely happy with my purchase. This will serve as a great escape from counterstrike (I really suck at CS:S, but I love it).
