Hi, I use a router to share internet access with one of those ****** internet users who trade retarded pictures of dog's in tuxedos and such over email and that's about it.

I was wondering if I can set up my wired Lynksis BEFSR41 router to

1)secure my computer from any malware on this other persons computer

2)only give them a slight trickle of bandwidth and hog 95% of it for myself

Please when answering remember that I am a networking idiot and will require very explicit step by step instructions.

In response I can only hope you will one day have an audio or cabling problem I can help you with :santa2::santa:

What linksys router is it? Are you confident in upgrading firmware?
I ask because I have read posts of custom firmware that has a whole lot more functionality, but someone else will know a lot more than me on here.

Lol
There was someone posting on here the other week with a similar situation to yours. He wanted to share his internet but protect himself from any bad stuff on the other persons pc...
If it were me personally-i would place their pc in the dmz. This is configurable on the router and what it does is keep the pc in the dmz completely seperate from yours but the bad thing is that they won't be using your router firewall. But when I said this last time some ppl disagreed that it was a good idea.

As for limiting bandwidth - I don't know of any way you can limit the ammount he gets.

the BEFSR41 firewall isnt much of any thing and your never really sure if its working or not because you get some funky stuff, i know my parents were on mine i loaned them

is there qos settings on your router?
it is possible to get a program to install on your pc to tag all of your pc traffic going outbound to be favoured by a qos policy..
i cant help you set that up though :(
